KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — An outraged Lim Kit Siang denied today uttering seditious remarks during a ceramah in Sungai Terah, Gua Musang, saying that he was not even present at the function.

“This is a slanderous accusation…I never said this and I was not even there (at the ceramah). This is a twisted and irresponsible plot to spread racial and religious hatred,” Lim told reporters.

Umno-owned daily Berita Harian, in a news report dated yesterday had accused Lim of saying “orang Umno kafir” (Umno members are infidels) during a PAS ceramah in Sungai Terah, to “influence Malays to vote for PAS” for the Galas by-election.

The article quoted Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam as saying that Lim’s alleged remarks were made in the presence of PAS spiritual advisor Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) spiritual advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during a ceramah in Sungai Terah.

“What is said is that when Lim accused Umno Malays of being “kafir” PAS members greeted his remarks with shouts of “Allahuakbar”..Should we support this party which has deviated from Islam’s true teachings,” said Ali Rustam during a function in Kampung Baru Hulu.

Lim said today that since the “false” news report, Umno Youth Putrajaya had lodged a police report against him.

“I myself will lodge a police report in Gua Musang and will instruct my lawyer to take action against Ali Rustam for defamation,” said Lim.

  1. You were not even there (at the ceramah)?

This a problem of Moral hazard. They say Moral Hazard occurs when a party insulated from risk behaves differently than it would behave if it were fully exposed to the risk

Now making a report based on false information is a kind of moral hazard if it is without cost if the police investigates only the one complained against without investigating the party that lodges the report flippantly. If that’s a case lodging police reprt especially against Opposition politicians becomes an effective harrassment tool. Without cost and penalties any one can lodge any number of reports to harrass anyone without rhyme and reason .

I urge you to raise in public profile this issue. It is becoming a bad and irresponsible habit.

  2. Shocking indeed! Lim has denied so Rustam was dreaming and he uttered that statement.A police report was made and so will Lim.What are the consequences? Wastage of funds and time! What type of campaign are we interested? Politicsal, religious, racial or personal- puerile indeed.

  3. In business, this is called racketeering – damaging competitor’s asset illegally and try to force them out of their business. Yup – its what the Mafia does. The simple fact is that what UMNO/BN does is political mafioso..

  4. It is a well known fact that Special Branch tapes all the ceramahs. So if the words were uttered, even without police reports, they have the proof to act. Since they did not act, that means the words were never uttered unless it was in a fantasy dream of Ali Rustam.

  5. well this proofs umno is surely a bunch of kafirs. they are willing to tell lies to justify the end.

were they high on drugs when they accuse lim, who was not there, to utter the word “kafir”? who did they see actually? john lennon?
