NSTP withdraws defamation suit

New Straits Press (Malaysia) Bhd today withdraws its 2001 defamation suit against DAP Parliamentary Leader Lim Kit Siang at the Kuala Lumpur High Court this morning with a no costs consent order. Lim was represented by Karpal Singh and Sangeet Kaur Deo.

NST filed the defamation suit against Lim for defamatory words in response to a question from a Berita Harian reporter at a press conference in the Parliament lobby on May 17, 2001 on bumiputra quota and the annual controversy over local university intake.

NST alleged in its defamation suit filed in September 2001 that in their natural and ordinary meaning, or by way of innuendo, the offending words meant that the company was racist, unpatriotic and unfit to be Malaysian.

  1. ///unfit to be Malaysian///

The judgement as to whether one is fit to be Malaysian is relative. It depends on the quality or the standard one holds for a Malaysian. If Malaysians are represented by MPs of the ruling BN and their behaviour in the parliament, then it is quite difficult to be fit, to reach their thuggish behaviour. It might then be a compliment pays to be unfit to be Malaysian.

  2. They sue to tell Malaysians…LKS is wrong.
After awhile…all forgotten..they withdrew..for they know LKS was speaking the truths and Karpal will have a field day in court.
Wait for OTK withdraw his lawsuit against Ting..say 5 months before 13th GE.

  3. Congratulations ! YB Unlce Lim won ..the racist paper NSTP was wrong, similar THE Utusan Malaysia lost badly in legal battle and paid compensations to PAS leaders.

Their suit against DAP Taiko with bad faith will eventually order to withdraw it. JUSTICE for DAP is done today.

What a great shame to both NSTP and Utusan papers controlled by UMNO warlords ?
