Life is 2 short 2 vote UMNO

By Hussein Hamid

I use to view with amusement the goings on every year of the UMNO AGM at PWTC. The fight between Team A and Team B, spectacle of Mahathir crying on stage, the brandishing of the Kris, gag order, no gag order, contest no contest…the whole spectrum of human failings all there for us to see. But amusement is far from an appropriate response given the anger that I now feel at the way UMNO is still conducting itself despite the wake up call of the last General Election. UMNO has
enjoyed over fifty years of freedom in which they were left alone to do as they wish – to change, amend, and innovate whatever they choose to do to ensure Ketuanan Melayu and to deliver a united, peaceful and prosperous Malaysia with abundant opportunities for all citizens. They failed.

For the Malays who have staunchly supported UMNO and unfailingly given UMNO their votes it has been a challenging time. It used to be the opposition parties that has been looked upon by the Malays with detached amusement as these parties tried desperately to muster the non-Malay votes without much success. Those Malays who openly sided with these opposition parties were regarded as a traitor to the Malay cause. How times have changed.

The myth of UMNO as being the champion of the Malays has long been proven a farce. It might be a myth that UMNO still continues to encourage though we know that that UMNO accomplishments or lack thereof is there for all to see. If the integrity and ability of Singapore Leaders to govern their City State well is an inspiration to people the world over, and if that made UMNO leaders look like little man, then UMNO has only themselves to blame.

Malaysia needs a new kind of leadership. We cannot build what the Rakyat now wants without competent, clean and skill leaders. This we cannot find from the ranks of UMNO or Barisan. This simple truth seems to elude UMNO and Barisan leaders – but not the Rakyat. We need leaders with humanistic disposition towards their own people. We do not need leaders who came to high office of state just because they can lay claim to the name of Tun Razak or Tun Hussein and by reason of this “pedigree” chose to think that they, their families and their ‘sahabats’ are entitled to rob the country blind. You govern in our name and we pay taxes to maintain you in office and yet you have the audacity to take more from us in the name of national development and Ketuanan Melayu. If Ketuanan Melayu and National Development have not progress it is because of your incompetence. The accumulated
opportunities presented to you over the years for the resolution of these “problems” have not been taken. And the reason why you have not done so is attributable to your incompetence – and nothing else. There is something desperately wrong with UMNO.

Much blame deserves to be laid down at the feet of its leaders who time and time again uttered “Malay Unity” as the rationale for everything that they do and then fed the exuberance of the UMNO masses a staple diet of money, money and more money. MCA and MIC echoed these same sentiments in the things that they do.

While trumpeting the need of an independent Judiciary UMNO handpicked its members so that it will do their biddings when instructed. The appointment of Suhakam, MACC and the various Suruhanjaya were all bluster and no substance.

Left alone these last 50 years UMNO did an astoundingly good job of enriching themselves. But when the time came to fulfil their promise to the Malays and the nation they have shown rather less ingenuity.

Even now Barisan and its components parties continue to publicly unravel their seedy and unacceptable side of how they do things. We are in shock and in awe at the exposure of the deeds of UMNO, MCA and MIC – all can be reduced to four words “for a quick profit”.

Inevitably the people have had enough. Grim as the prognosis is for our country change is in the air – driven by the very people UMNO, MCA and MIC have blind-sided. The Chinese and Indians rejection of MCA and MIC is self evident in the results of the last GE. It is the rejection of UMNO by an ever-increasing number of Malays that has given the opposition momentum and much hope for their future after the next GE.

But the best reason for hope for all of us is that despite the obvious rejection of Barisan by the Rakyat it is still business as usual for them – they are relentless in continuing with their conceit, their deceit and their arrogance towards the Rakyat instead of getting their house in order. For that we have to be grateful.

  1. The UNITED MALAYS NATIONAL ORGANIZATION (UMNO) – established 1946, is still screaming its head off for MALAY UNITY in 2009! What a DISGRACE! I suggest they take down the “U” on the signage hanging above PWTC and replace it with a “D” – DMNO aka DISUNITED MALAYS NATIONAL ORGANIZATION!

  2. UMNO needs a total revamp if it is to survive. It is a major renovation, a complete overhaul so to speak, that goes to the very root of its foundation, its value system. UMNO’s value system is totally antiquated and is based on primordial instincts, akin to monkeys howling in the morning to demarcate its territory than with today’s concept of nation-building.

  3. To put it very mildly and with an economy of words:
UMNo is a colossal disgrace to the Malays. Anybody, yes, just about anybody, could have done better. That makes UMNO’s disgrace even more difficult to stomach.

  4. There is no doubt in my mind…Malaysia have far greater good and generous humans beings than selfish ones.
Seeking for real truths…to guide their lives…the truths will make them see…what is right or wrong.
It is not that we just woke up and saw truths…all of a sudden.
It is a clear opportunity to end UMNO government.
No matter how much been said…enough is enough.
Let true democracy and freedom be won.
Let Malays be truly free from the yoke of tyrants .who are Lucifer’s deciples.
    Let TRUTHS conquers ALL.
We are not concern…how UMNO manages their party.
How they manage us…shows these politicians are not governing the country for the people…by the people and with the people.
It is governing to fool it’s own race…for the said race was weaker and UMNO loves to cash in on the weaknesses.
All have awakened…through education……with no help from UMNO…and that’s the truth….that it will be the Malays that will destroy UMNO.
The architect of all sins from UMNO is non other than…Mahathir.

  5. Kua Kia Soong said..”Bukun dam to be much more worst than PKFZ scandal”
I guess Lim Kit Siang knows that too well too….but keep quiet to see what happen with PKFZ.
Best is to reserve Bukun Dam when 13th GE date announced….giving those crooks no time to campaign but defend again and again….how clean UMNO is…no secrets kept from the public at all.
Let them keep telling lies…play games twist…and more confusion in UMNO ..to exposed themselves.
Sit back and watch…..how the will destroy themselves.
Lets keep watching the show…like 50,000 smart Malaysians attending the Hari Raya party…smiling shaking hands with the devils…eating and enjoying…playing the same game and go back…determine to vote UMNO out.
Let Najib feel great with false dreams.
    Malaysians are smart people now.

  6. Advice for those thinking of joining BN– ‘When you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas’

Advice for Kartika- “Life is too short to drink cheap beer”

Belated advice for Altan- “Life is too short to be stuffed up and c4ed”

  7. I wish UMNO can maintain its present mode. Then and only then future generations of Brighther and thinking Malaysians will undertake the due democratic process to bring changes.

UMNO need not respect the majority of Malaysians but I hope UMNO respect the due process of democracy

  8. umno has always claim they are fighting for the malays and protect the malay rights and interests.

are the malays of today still or is in desperate positions that they still deserved to be spoon-fed and not to compete with others ???

this is the disguise of umno to make use of malays rights to actually holding themselves in power for more corrupted ways. they are in fact USING THE MALAYSIAN MALAYS!!!

there are many less fortunate people besides the malays…they should deserve more attention. afterall, they are malaysians too!!! this 1malaysia is just a word uttered by najib who doesn’t make it into practical use. better he declare 1malay slogan instead.

  9. UMNO, is there a more terrifying term in Malaysia since post-Tunku’s rule? Since then this nation has been accelerating downhill esp after tdm started in earnest his wasteful spendings to strip the coffers bare.

Of course there is much to gain by each & every of the members (cronies) so much so that all of them wants status quo.

How many more moons can the finances survive b4 we go belly up and need emergency resuscitation from World Bank? You tell me!

  10. ///umno has always claim they are fighting for the malays and protect the malay rights and interests.///- newchief

The trouble is they do not know who Malays are, and the definition on Malay in the constitution says that all the 1.4 billion Muslims around the world are potential Malay, anytime they wish to be Malaysian, even now. Yet UMNO would not allow Malaysians born in this country before Independence and their offspring their right to be treated as equal citizens.

The NEWMalays are too smart for the true Malays and as they gained political power within UMNO, they were able to use the position in government to buy off whoever they need to stay in power. They needed absolute power in government so that their corrupt practice cannot be challenged. That was guaranteed by the divide and rule technique.

It could create confusion to divide people by social class but it is quite clear cut when religion is the point of departure. Together with race and because of the pivotal role religion plays in classifying Malays, state managed racial inequality was the safeguard for victory at polling booths. The Malays are made to feel obliged to vote UMNO through claims by UMNO politicians that Malays should be grateful to them, as though elected officials have the right to buy votes, as they do. The government under UMNO control announces openly that Malays get preferential treatment as Malays so long as UMNO is in power. They would not be allowed to stand for election in India for using state power to bribe. Through brainwashing, even true Malays accept that NEWMalay leaders gain the lion share under their corrupt government administration, so long as non-Malays were disadvantaged, most probably out of hatred. It is not surprising that UMNO parliamentarians openly urged non-Malays to leave the country, if they did not like the unfair treatment perpetrated by UMNO, as UMNO would not change.

If UMNO accepts that Malays can come from anywhere in the world, then Malays need no protection. The special quota system was needed to protect them from disappearing from the face of earth, as the founders of the nation feared. Article 160 on the definition has guaranteed that that would not happen.

If article 153 was to protect Malays who were in the country, and who were considered weak and non-competitive, the persons entitled to such protection should be clearly identified and controlled. It makes no sense to allow Muslims migrants, legal or otherwise to be treated as Malays for the quota qualification. It is unfair to the original Malays born here they have to face competition from new entrants. It is unfair to non-Malays because the load of support gets heavier.

Article 153 provides for quota protection, but it never allows dual pricing system. It is UMNO’s plan to divide the country and to polarise the people in establishing the dual pricing system based on race. That is advertised openly, and known around the world. The dual pricing has nothing to do with helping Malays to be competitive. The dual pricing is never practised in any so-called affirmative actions outside Malaysia.

If Najib cannot even remove 2Prices under 1Malaysia, he is only talking cork about 1Malaysia. Unity will not be there with dual pricing. It is robbing non-Malays to pay Malays who go to for the same housing schemes. In fact through the government sponsored dual pricing in houses, nasi lemak is sold at different prices or same price different content to buyers based on race. So is pizza in some outlets.

  11. On 21 Sep 2009, PM Najib happily announced that his Malaysian economic Stimulus Package (2009-2010) worthed a total of RM67 billion already showed some positive results in Construction Sector. The construction sector reported a growth rate of 1.1% for the first quarter 2009 and 2.8% for the second quarter 2009, giving an average of annualized growth rate of 1.7% for the first half year of 2009.

However, the Malaysian economy will need a robust growth rate of about 6%-7% per year in order to create adequate new job opportunities for several 10 thousand or hundred thousand of new school graduates, college graduates and university graduates who join the Malaysian New Work Force each and every year. PM Najib is still too far lagging behind in his economic knowledge and he is yet to show a satisfactory report card to the Malaysian people!

There is really no good reason for us to celebrate at the moment when the construction sector only grew by 2.8% in the second quarter. This is because Malaysia is going to face a tough time in the third quarter when H1N1 virus infestation will attack for second wave! The service sector of Malaysia will be badly hit with a negative growth rate if H1N1 pandemics are not being diligently checked with some well-maneuvered preventative hygienic and quarantine measures!

  12. hahahahaha….I like Loh’s respond to “newchief”.
Malays are infact Indians and Chinese..mixed blood. We are your roots.
500 years history is all we get….Han Tuah..Han Jebat…no more in history book…found to be Chinese.
Now we are told to forget the past…and look at the Space man….the submarines…how advanced we are…hahahahahahaha
“newchief” is half past six..just as UMNO intended him to be.

  13. We hope and pray to God that UMNO will be disintegrated even annihilated during the coming GE13. We have enough of UMNO.

UMNO is corrupt beyond any remedy (not to say hypocritical, liars, power crazy, biased, racist, selfish, cruel, big bully, incompetent, no foresight, short-sighted, not accountable, irresponsible, self-interest, opaque, (number of UMNO leaders have donkey’s, cow’s or mouse’s brain),.. etc).

They have said many times they will change but to-date no real change. At most they just putting on some cosmetics; but when wash with clean water their ugly, scarred and demonic face appear.

UMNO’s 52 years leadership in the Government has not caused our country to progress like Singapore, Taiwan, China, Korea and Japan. 52 years ago, we were at par with these countries. 52 years ago, Malaysia was considered developing country, today we are still considered as a developing country but not for those above countries. At 2020 Malaysia a developed country? I strongly doubt so with UMNO’s leadership.

Our small neighbour Singapore (a very tiny island with practically no natural resources) is a very clear cut case of how very far behind we are, in terms of social-economic development, financial management, science & technology, medical, education, telecommunication, infrastructure, political & racial stability, national security, (beating us in people safety, less industrial & transport accidents, environment cleanliness, anti-corruption index even life expectancy in Singapore is higher), etc.

In 1963 when Singapore became independent from Malaysia, we were at par or even higher than Singapore in many fields. However today especially since the inception of NEP in 1971, Malaysia began to fall behind Singapore year by year. What had happened? BN/UMNO Government has gone awry, not focus in national, social-economic development focus but instead become more and more corrupted???

According to IMF for 2008, Singapore is ranked 4th highest in the world in term of GDP (PPP) per capita USD 51,142 while Malaysia is ranked 60th with GDP per capita USD 14, 072.

According to Business Times 15 Sept 2009, Singapore has the world’s highest density of millionaires (household having asset of at least USD 1 million) at 8.5% of the population, according to a Boston Consulting Group study. Switzerland was second, at 6.6 per cent, followed by Kuwait, at 5.1 per cent. Standing at fourth place was United Arab Emirates, at 4.5 per cent, and then the United States, at 3.5 per cent.

How about % of household millionaires in Malaysia? Very, very small? Why? Mainly PMs (past & present including their families) and a small group of their cronies controlled more than 95% of the wealth of all millionaires.

Conclusion as our life is 2 short 2 vote for UMNO, may we see a real change in our Government during GE13.

  14. Yes, the next GE will determine the future of Malaysia. If BN wins (even if through cheating) it will mark the final nail in the coffin for Malaysia.

Look at our FDI numbers and we can see how badly Malaysia is being mismanaged.

for Y2008, Malaysia’s net FDI was -6 billion USD (Yes, thats negative meaning more money leaving the country than coming in). Contrast this to Singapore that had a net FDI flow of +14 billion USD for Y2008!

In 2007, Malaysia was -3 billion USD versus Singapore +7billion uSD.

In 2006, Malaysia was at a net 0 billion USD versus Singapore +14 billion USD.

Our FDI situation has been getting worst since 2006. Those BN fools have completely no idea what to do to improve Malaysia’s economy. Can Malaysia afford the continued leadership of these BN fools?

  15. Chinese and Indians have abandoned mca and mic. They are now in pakatan via dap or keadilan. This fact is being manipulated by umno and umnoputras in argument. They claimed that pakatan champions the cause and rights of non-malays over and above those of malays – implying therefore that under pakatan malays would suffer and be sidelined. An overused and over-recycled argument based on instilling fear.

Of course the truth is quite something else. Ordinary malays are actually suffering under umno and have been suffering for several decades already. And they are now unhappy with umno especially the young and educated ones. Should they then support pakatan in view of the erroneous claim by umno? That is the question.

Of course the fact of the matter is non-malays could never by themselves or on their own bring pakatan to putrajaya. Pakatan needs the support of malays in the country – PAS members as well as umno malays and mamaks. The fact is, malays do have an important role to play in pakatan and in re-charting the course of our history for a better tommorrow. In the circumstances is it possible at all for malays to be sidelined when pakatan comes into power? Clearly no.

And lets not forget this. When umnoputras’ lion share of the country’s economic pie is released and returned to the people once again, there will be more than enough for everyone to share and benefit. No quota system will be needed at all for that system is required only in the face of scarcity (whether real scarcity or as in umno’s case a direct result of abuse, corruption, wonton waste and mismanagement).

Should malays fear pakatan? No. So Join the excitement.

  16. “Umno should pick a candidate who is free of money politics for the Bagan Pinang state by-election” said the father of all corruptions
Like this, Umno has to give a walkover lah in this buy-election
Where to find a candidate free of $$ politics

  17. boh-liao :“Umno should pick a candidate who is free of money politics for the Bagan Pinang state by-election” said the father of all corruptionsLike this, Umno has to give a walkover lah in this buy-electionWhere to find a candidate free of $$ politics

Oh the grand old corrupt pioneer would claim that he has all the candidates, provided he heads the party again.

According to him, the PM residence belongs to the rakyat, and so open house has to be held there. Looks like AAB could do nothing right!

  18. Godfather wrote: “Yup, for 50 plus years, we have all been in shock and awe. We have been shocked by UMNO’s blatantness, but we have also been awed by how stupid the voters have been – until 2008.”

Don’t blame the voters as stupid, blame all the illegal leaders and their cronies and all relevent authorities such as the Election Commission, the Police, the local authorities, the Government servants and all the rotten parties workers, who all rigged the general elections especially after 13 May, 1969.

This is confirmed by the exChairman Tan Sri Rashid as corrupted as he was and still is, when he does not sue anyone for the allegations of corruption. Rashid was in charge of GEs for almost 40 years. I have two High Courts GE2004 and GE 2008 to prove the rigging.

Also blame the opposition parties with the few elected reps who are happy to be selfish to keep their stupid jobs by not supporting me to the Courts on GE 2004 and GE 2008 because they may have to refund their allowances etc.

So it is timely for IGGG with Joshua Kong at the helm. Otherwise the GE13 and thereafter would be worstiest.

  19. Godfather,

Especially for Sabah with project IC’s holders of 1-2 millions including children, there are likely the electoral roll -always denied or no action to clean- of 40% with the illegals holding blue genuine ICs and now Mykads.

So how can anyone not from UMNO and BN winning the general elections? It is useless to win a few seats only to be harrassed by the illegal Government of illegal leaders.

So what do you expect to occur in a rotten system?

De-registered all the illegal political parties especially race and religious based parties now.

    pw: tanisha ing

  20. Godfather,

I hope you understand that in Sabah and elsewhere, UMNO is loaded with many illegal members all exposed in several major books.

So UMNO or UMNO Baru should be removed from the face of Tanah Malayu when the illegal members are not Malayu but likely Muslims.
To extend that UMNO would have 1.4 billions Malays who happen to be Muslims.

That is how 1Malaysia fight for the Malays in 1world. A very big dream until the end of the world in likely 2012.

So Malays to rule the world in dream in tatters.
