DAP to hold fresh CEC elections

Media Statement by DAP National Chairman and MP for Bukit Gelugor, YB Karpal Singh, on 15.8.13:

Despite the strong legal position of the DAP that the directive of the Registrar of Societies that the party holds fresh CEC elections in that that directive does not have the sanctity or authority of law, in the larger interests of the party, and to avert deregistration of the party, the CEC resolved last night, to hold fresh CEC elections.

The DAP had made every effort to receive from the Registrar of Societies the reasons for his directive and the law upon which that directive had been based. In fact, DAP Secretary-General, Lim Guan Eng, as recent as a few days ago, sought to meet up with the Registrar of Societies to discuss the position but the Registrar of Societies declined to give him an appointment. To compound the position, the party’s repeated requests to the Registrar of Societies to be supplied with the complaints made against the party have been futile.

Under the circumstances, it is with regret, that as directed by the Registrar of Societies, the CEC of term 2008-2011 will meet up next Thursday to make the necessary preparations for the fresh CEC elections.

  1. With lawless people in power who twist, bend and turn the laws in whichever way they like without feeling shame, holding fresh CEC elections is the best and only course to take. UNMO Baru and ROS will be more disappointed than DAP over the party’s latest decision.

  2. Just hold the elections based on the candidates on the list the last time. Those candidates were valid the last time and their candidatures were never questioned, just the voting process.

  3. Tell the delegates- THEY HAVE TO VOTE EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE LAST TIME..Its should be about thumbing their nose at ROS and their complicity with UMNO/BN..Its about showing them how 53% of the electoral feel about their masters in the last GE and the numbers WILL ONLY INCREASE..VOTING EXACTLY THE SAME SENDS THE MESSAGE NOT JUST TO ROS BUT THEIR MASTERS…

  4. It can be foreseen that ROS is not going to change its stance towards the DAP. If ROS changes its stance, it means the Director General of ROS admits that he based his judgment on lies and falsehoods when evaluating DAP’s CEC election and this will bring great embarrassment to him.

In case ROS queries the validity of the next CEC election, I suggest that the DAP record down the signatures of all those who will come for the next CEC election and make a full video recording of the election including the processing and announcement of the CEC result.

  5. What is the term of a new CEC? Would it begin on the day of the election for a new term of ? Years, or would it begin from the date of the last election. If the former, what happen to the party during the period of the two elections? How do you count the term or years of service of the Secretary General if he was allowed to serve a fixed number of years? Maybe the ROS wanted to confuse the party with the new election since they knew very well that there will be no change to the set up of the CEC.

  6. The ROS ought to be dragged to a court of law to explain its actions and reasons and to give evidence to support it’s claims. Otherwise, the ROS ought to be made to pay compensation or be fined for its unlawful behaviors.

  7. Yes do the CEC election and put the issue to rest. I believe the result will be more resounding this time. The members will be very aware about this rather “under handed” attempt to de-register DAP.

  8. Well, well, well, the Registrar of Societies must feel that Father Augustus Chan’s information is highly accurate and trustworthy!!

I guess even with the fresh CEC elections, the Registrar of Societies may wish to consult with the Abominable Snowman to ensure that the new elections were all above board.

  9. By now, you should have some idea of who this ‘fictitious’ Father Augustus Chen is. He may be wishing you ‘good luck’ for trying.

Anyone with half the intelligence of a child will know that UMNO, with the help of the RoS, is desperately trying its best to have the DAP de-registered for obvious reasons. The scheming will not stop here. If you are good in the game of chess it’s time to do a ‘castling’ and bring out your knights. No chess master wants to lose his knights in a game.

  10. Perhaps holding fresh CEC elections is a blessing in disguise for the DAP. It portrays the ROS as the villain and the DAP the victim. DAP might probably draw support from the fence sitters. Now the ROS has acted based on the lies and falsehoods of a fictitious person. Has the MACC acted based on the facts and truths provided by the Auditor General?

  11. KJ literally JUMPED at the chance to paint DAP black on this to burnish his credential.. THIS is why Lee Kuan Yew is so confident Singapore will always be better because even the best of UMNO future leaders don’t have what it takes to really be globally competitive..

  12. Isn’t there grounds for a judicial review of a decision made by a public body that the proper process have been adhered to according to law ? This can still be done even after the CEC re-elections.

  13. There is no way the DAP can win the game except to hold a new CEC election. This is because the DAP knows full well that the court and ROS are controlled by Umno. The DAP can do anything it wants (e.g. take ROS to court and expose the identity of “Father Augustus Chen”) but Umno will still be having the UPPER HAND in this game.
