Let’s Ubah!

By Allan CF Goh

For well over fifty years,
Parents have wept silent tears,
Over their children’s great dreams,
Wreaked by those foul racist screams.
Theirs is not to question why
To share not an equal sky!
They stand under the same sun,
But only as lesser sons.
Their destined education
Failed to come to real fruition,
Their abilities denied,
Their hopes promised, never neigh,
Because of vile racism,
And racial extremism.
Let’s ubah the sick regime.
Make Malaysia shine and glean!

  1. “Let’s Ubah!” – is the dream of an average Non Malay Malaysian marginalised by race based politics. Does the majority of the Bumi voting bloc that has benefited by it agree? This is what ultimately counts. Dr Mahathir says “no”, his race legacy is very much alive and kicking. It defines success in politics, and a politician’s responsibility and best chance of success is to promote one particular race over the rest based on feudal and tribalistic sentiments of his constituency. He says the 2008 success of opposition is not due to any paradigm shift in race consciousness of the majority bloc but the incompetence of leading of his immediate anointed successor. Kit takes the opposite stance. He takes the battle to Gelang Patah in the name of Onn Jaafar who believed in the concept of fiduciary duties owed by the people in power to the nation as a whole and therefore leaders should lead the people away from narrow tribalistic and feudal confines of race based voting, and hence he advocated opening up UMNO to all races. His suggestion was greatly opposed by the Malays and as a result he resigned as President of UMNO in 1951. The issue is whether the elapse of 60 over years is long enough to have changed mindsets. If not it would be Kit like who like Onn Jaafar who will be retired from politics The GE 13 will determine and show whether Change is an idea that has come amongst the majority as Kit says or “no” as Mahathir insists.

  2. Kit is assuming a huge political risk in citing Onn Jaafar and his inclusive vision in Johor if majority Malay bloc still rejects this (esp when coming from a Chinese politician in the Opposition bloc) as they did 61 years ago even when it was raised then by a Malay nationalistic leader as founder of UMNO. It must be remembered that leaders of other Pakatan components (PKR’s Anwar or PAS’s Hadi) have not openly solicited Malay votes based on change in ethnocentric Malay dominance politics. PAS advocates supremacy of the Official Religion tied up inextricably with Malay cultural identity, and hence its primacy, whereas Anwar, on class issues – how by corruption Malay elites benefitted and not the masses but never on Mahathir’s bumi-non bumi dichotomy or on NEP and how it should benefit all (since Anwar’s need based approach assumes Malays by majority are in need and will equally benefit most). Neither openly and empathically advocates that winds of political change are blowing away from race to nation. This does not mean Kit’s sense is misplaced. Today many are young voters who have received education and exposed by the Net. The calculation is that they will constitute the tipping point of change. Certainly that’s how Najib’s advisors similarly interpret the 2008 GE results or else they won’t come out with this 1 Malaysia platform which so far has not taken off (beyond slogan stage) by reason of resistance of his own party warlords delegates and members benefiting from the status quo Ketuanan Order.

  3. The goddam scums in the ruling party not
only clean out the coffers but also sell the
country to illegal foreigners for their votes.
So, they are criminals as well as traitors!!!
JUST IMAGINE FIVE OVER DECADES OF
    SUCH EXTREME BETRAYAL!!!
THE TIME FOR WORDS IS OVER!!!
THE TIME FOR ACTION IS HERE AND NOW!!!
THROW OUT THE SCUMS IN GE13 AND
MAKE SURE THAT THEY WON’T EVEN
BE IN THE OPPOSITION WHERE THEY
CAN ONLY BE A DAMNED NUISANCE!!!
THEY HAVE NO PLACE IN PARLIAMENT
    AT ALL!!!
    THEY BELONG IN THE ZOO!!!

  4. If Chua Soi Lek is so concerned about not having Chinese representatives in government if people vote for the DAP, he should show his concern is genuine by not lending MCA seats to UMNO. Let’s Ubah!
