Parliament will vote at 2.30 pm today to decide whether to refer two Barisan Nasional (MP) Members of Parliament, Datuk Mohd Said Yusuf (Jasin) and Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin (Kinabatangan) to the Committee of Privileges for making offensive and sexist remarks directed at the DAP MP for Batu Gajah, Fong Po Kuan in Parliament yesterday.
When Parliament began this morning, Po Kuan stood up on a point of order under Standing Order 26(1)(p) to move a privilege motion to refer the two BN MPs to the Committee of Privileges for breach of parliamentary privilege. No notice is required under S.O. 26(1)(p) when the privilege matter had to raised at the first available opportunity.
Subject of complaint – Mohd Said and Bung Mohktar had made vulgar, sexist and offensive remarks at Po Kuan when she and other DAP MPs had raised in Parliament yesterday afternoon the issue about the ceiling leaks near the media centre during heavy downpour in the morning despite a RM100 million renovation bill.
Utusan Malaysia in its report “Enam kebocoran siling dikesan di Parlimen”, recounted:
M. Kulasegaran (DAP-Ipoh Barat) dan Fong Po Kuan (DAP-Batu Gajah) yang turut mencelah kemudian berkata, kebocoran itu membazirkan wang rakyat.
Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) yang bangun mengambil bahagian secara sinis berkata:”Mana ada bocor, Batu Gajah pun tiap-tiap bulan pun bocor juga.”
This was also reported by Sin Chew Daily and China Press. Sin Chew reported that Mohd Said made the derogatory remark that “MP for Batu Gajah tiap-tiap bulan pun bocor juga” while China Press reported that Mohd Said was the first to make the sexist and offensive remark which was followed by Bung Mohtar.
Both Sin Chew and China Press observed that probably because there was so much din and pandemonium in the House at the time that DAP MPs did not hear the vulgar, sexist and offensive remarks made by the two BN MPs at Po Kuan — which was why there had been no protest by DAP MPs in the House at the time.
This was exactly what happened, as no DAP MP had heard these BN duo making the vulgar, sexist and offensive remarks because of the din at the time, caused by BN MPs refusing to allow DAP MPs to draw the attention of the House to the disgraceful spectacle in Parliament returning to the lengthening list of government building and public construction mishaps.
However, when the vulgar, sexist and offensive remarks were reported not by one but by three separate newspapers, there could be no doubt about its occurrence.
In proposing that the two BN MPs be referred to the Committee of Privileges, which was seconded by the DAP MP for Seputeh Teresa Kok, Po Kuan said the two BN MPs had insulted all Malaysian women and their actions must be condemned in no uncertain terms. She urged all MPs, particularly women MPs from Barisan Nasional, to support the censure motion of the two BN MPs.
One woman Barisan Nasional MP conspicuously left the Chamber at this stage.
I also gave my support, stressing that the two BN MPs have brought shame to Parliament, making it a laughing stock in the nation and the world with such vulgar, sexist and offensive remarks. I said Parliament cannot permit to have a MCP (male chauvinist pig) as an MP, but there are now two MCPs in Parliament.
M. Kulasegeran (DAP — Ipoh Barat) also stood up to call for the most serious view and action to be taken.
In view of the seriousness of the matter, the Speaker, Tan Sri Ramli Ngah announced that a vote on the motion will be held at 2.30 pm.
At this, I called on the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, who was in the House at the time, to allow for a free vote by BN MPs, based on the merits of the case and not only party lines. I specifically suggested that the party whip should be withdrawn to allow for all MPs to vote according to their conscience to demonstrate that the BN government is serious about its commitment about defending and upholding the dignity of women and that it is not just empty talk.
That’s the challenge we have to face when those MPs are not professional educated. Some of them are just ‘good enough’ to be part of the pack for BN.
Worse part of it, since they are from BN pack, no action will be taken as these are merely ‘words with no intentions’ and some times, opposition also can try to use. Beware of the final consequences with the Speaker make his comments.
I was once advised by old timers about GE. Let them (BN) take the parliment as they will make sure to do so at all cost. You will be surprise at those figures involved… Don’t let them take ovr the state seats as these involved the state government and the respective Sultans. Think about it. Seriously, They (BN) will have their ATMs machines stripped without the state funds especially those rich states like Selangor, Johor, Terengganu, Pahang, Sarawak and Sabah. The rest of the states are being used as ‘weapons’ to gain control of the 2/3 parliment. Of course, they will distribute some ‘extra fundings’ to those smaller states.
This MP and a ” Datuk ” too is a typical coward who insult decent people, in paricular women, to win his argument.
No worm could sink lower than this.
If Bung’s mama did not bocor too, there would not had been a Bung in the Dewan Rakyat today.
This guy is a total disgrace. How could he represent the people and set a good example?
He got no respect for women whatsoever! He will not have any support from MPs, may be a few including Jerai MP.
PM and women MPs should strongly express their outrage and disgust with this totally unacceptable behaviour in public.
This is totally outrages. We cannot have such MP in the house. It is disgrace.
The Kinabatangan and Jasin MP have not respect to the Parliment. Where is the professionalism? Is this type of people that PM want in the Barisan? Half past six? Can’t they just grow up? Making speeches without using brains? This will only happen when you put the idiots in the parliment, which will only perform destruction and humilation to the nation.
Get we can them punish heavily? How is PM gonna response to the public? Particular to the lady? Or he is still sleeping? “Aku tak tahu apa yang berlaku, tengah tunggu report dari dia orang” attitude again?
They should be setting up example, not going around the public insulting lady. Don’t they have gentleman attitude? Isn’t the Kinabatangan and Jasin MP got wife and mother which is also female? This show they have no respect to the ladies in the house. Vote them out.
Shame on you PM, shame on you both MP
This MP have been a ‘HERO’ lately. The only outspoken MP whenever Opposition or BN ( Wayang Kulit ) gets into the way the certain issue should be tabled at HOP. Funny , isn’t it ???
Let’s see exactly how Shahrizat, Azalina, Rafidah ect will vote on the motion will be held at 2.30 pm. Chances are they will side with Bung Mokhtar ‘cos they don’t bocor
I suppose he does not have a mother, wife or daughters!
Too bad their productivity and usefulness is not as advanced as their sense of humour.
You should not call them “pigs” as they are very “sensitive” people and could instead turn around and cite you for contempt or for “hurting their feelings”. As per norm, you should call them “khinzir” e.g male chauvinist khinzir (MCK).
The backbenchers purpose in life is to frustrate, mock and irritate opposition MPs, divert their attention. They were not selected for their intellectual capabilities but on their ability to frustrate. The better they are at it, the more they are hailed as “heroes”. And they have earned their MP’s perks.
Their top leadership will turn a blind eye and doze off, close one eye, pretend it did not happen or was not important at all. After all it was only the Opposition ma, so no harm done.
What does the Minister once in charge of Parliament, Nazri, has to say about all this? And is he concerned about the water leakages?
Dina Zaman was writing how the KL corporate world is like high school with its childish behavior and characteristic. Well, it can’t be any more surprising given that our Parliament is also the same thing.
Bung Mochtar and Said Yusof are like the hanger-ons of the ‘cool gang’ in school but they are really just idiot followers of bad apples. You know, they don’t know how to be smart or cool and so afraid to be who they are that they do all the stupid things that makes things a mess of things only. So long as the leaders of the ‘cool’ gang keep them around, they have a place to stand. When the ‘cool gang’ is no more, they will be revealed as the nothing that they really are..
it just goes to show that their respective wives dont hv bocor kes every month. Either they are passed their prime or amlfunction. Go tell that to your wives you dimwits!
Someone (DAP, Keadilan, PAS…) please distribute this information (any video?) to every woman in Jasin and Kinabatangan. Dont underestimate women power in the next election……
what do you expect from a bunch of uneducated and uncouth slimeballs. in any other country except bodohland these type of people would have no business in parliament; the closest they will get is working as gardeners spreading manure.
Now I would like to see the stand taken by woman MPs from BN. Will they be absent at the voting session? Will they vite with their sisters in the DAP?
Very unlikely the House will censure the two MCPs.
Why is the PM always nodding off in odd places? The answer is here finally, courtesy of http://malaysia-today.net/blog2006/corridors.php?itemid=4444
“…He is after all an ulamak. And ulamaks do not sleep. They stay awake at night prostrating to God for hours on end. Sleep is beautiful. But sacrificing sleep in the way of the Lord is more beautiful. So Abdullah gets very little sleep. He gets very little sleep because the Lord comes first. So he needs to catch up on lost sleep whenever he can. And that whenever would be all day long.”
How can a Prime Minister keep quiet when these things affect the moral imge of the country…he must
do the right thing…otherwise let someone else do the job
With this type of MPs who has very low level of intelligence,we just end up with a “half past six government”. Try dealing with any of the government servants, and you will know what I mean. Most of them has the habit of using arrogance and disgusting antics to shield their incapability. This is clearly duplicated in the behaviour of their MPs.
Shake my head wondering why such a degrading remark! Since when had our respected house of representatives deteriorated to such a pitiful level?
Keen to see how the BN representatives vote!
Here’s the species of monkeys that berates opposite sex:
http://mob1900.blogspot.com/2007/05/bn-mps-berates-all-women.html
What has Sharizat got to say about all this???
Monkeys in our Parliament? Goddamn it!
How did they pass the security?
Can we expect anything good from these uncouth MPs? Serves the rakyat right for electing them.
The Parliament functions have long been devalued since BN got 90+% of its gangs into the August House. Till the Oppositions tighten their grips with more ‘power’ coupled with the shrinking popularity of the BN in the coming GE will the parliament be restored of its quality as the true voices of the rakyat. My constituent MP is totally mute all along. Where’s he been all these years about the grieving issues concerning the rakyat? Sigh…
“Indians can change their destiny – May 9th, 2007” – LKS
They have indeed change their destiny, Indian Works Minister now have 2 Malay MPs aping up to him, it appears that they are actually protecting his misdeeds in RM 100 million of screwed up job.
Question, is it the sub contracting firm of these 2 apes that repairs the Parliament Building?
And MOB1900, nice poster. hehehehe
this is the typical mentality of malays i see nowadays – they lack the courage to discipline anyone, especially their children.
that’s why we have ignorant and rude MPs without manners like Bung (should be named Dung) and Said (should be named Haid)
wonder how they can face their own mothers, wives and daughters – no shame!
