Umno and the reasonable Malay

JUNE 7 — The reasonable Malay doesn’t ride the Clapham Omnibus. He gets around on the LRT or the successor to Sri Jaya buses. He travels in his beat-up Proton. But he reads in between the lines. He knows the BS from the mainstream media. The reasonable Malay now reads Harakah, Roket and PKR news.

Why does the PM and Umno president procrastinate in naming an election date? He’s enjoying a good personal rating. Umno is flushed with cash. He says he feels like meeting HRH the Yang di-Pertuan Agong immediately on seeing the “huge crowd” assembled at Stadium Bukit Jalil. I hope he didn’t ask the minister of misinformation to do a headcount for that occasion. Are all lawyers bad at counting or is it Rais alone?

So why does he not name a date? He is the longest-serving PM without his own mandate. And if we were to go by the logic of the ex-MIC leader who says he will contest against Palanivel, then, Najib can also be described as an illegal government leader. Yes, he actually said that because Palanivel had the MIC presidentship handed to him and not ELECTED, so Palanivel is an illegal party president. He says he has support from thousands and thousands of MIC members just like the Umno president.

The Umno president should be wary with the numbers given by Rais who seems to have been infected with the Indian Numberititis disease. I mean no disrespect to Malaysian Indians; but think about this. Assume there are three million Malaysian Indians — MIC says it has 1.5 million members, PPP says it has 800,000, IPF says it has 900,000; Nala says he has 600,000 in his pocket. Either the Malaysian Indian is a member of all these parties simultaneously or the political parties count those Malaysian Indians not born yet. Rais has been infected by Indian Numberititis. It’s a horrible judgment-clouding disease that causes hallucinating euphoria.

The main reason is not because he fears the feedback from the ground. He has been receiving padded and curry-flavoured reports saying all is well. The minister of misinformation downplayed the opposition’s chances consistently by 30per cent so as to doctor a favourable report pleasing to the ears of the party president.

The real reason he delays and delays, huffs and puffs is because he fears revolt in Umno. The incumbents insist they are winnable. Would anyone dare replace warlord Tajudin Rahman, for example?

In all divisions he is facing potential revolt. Even if he pays the incumbents lots of money (Umno has tons of it), the people supporting the replaced incumbents will sabotage Umno. More so the incumbents who feel they are winnable but are humiliated because they are not chosen. The eager beavers who thought they would be chosen but sidelined will muster whatever they can to sabotage Umno. This is the only reason why the Umno president is delaying the election date.

Will the one million-plus Umno members, who have gone from the Dark Side to the Bright Side, come back? Maybe five per cent. That still leaves more than one million Umno members who will vote for Pakatan Rakyat.

The Umno president-cum-BN chairman goes to Sarawak to plead for an extended lifeline. The people of Sarawak are not easily fooled any longer. Taib Mahmud is an old but wizened geezer, keen and sharp to the deceptive manoeuvres of Najib. Wasn’t Najib the Umno president who repeatedly humiliated Taib Mahmud, asking him to retire quickly? The president of a party who wasn’t able to get a 100 per cent winning record in 2008 talking down to a president of another party who got 100 per cent achievement record? That’s why Taib Mahmud sent word through an emissary, saying we shall see who leaves office first.

Najib can’t win over the reasonable Malay. The reasonable Malay is the person riding the LRT or the successor to Bas Sri Jaya. He reads in between the lines and is able to sieve through all the BS parlayed by Ustazah Ummi Hafilda, Ezam Mat Nor, Zulkifli Nordin, Hasan Aqidah and swami Nala. The reasonable Malay knows that in Utusan Malaysia, only the notification of the solat times and the 4D and Toto results are true.

The reasonable Malay is not easily blinded by the fetished sense of patriotism hawked around by Perkasa or to mouth-foaming gesticulations of Hidup Melayu by any of the Umno leaders.

Because the reasonable Malay knows it’s all much thunder but no rainfall. — sakmongkol.blogspot.com

  1. UMNO has given up on the Chinese. They don’t expect MCA and Gerakan to survive the next GE. They are now focused on attacking PAS and PKR – and all the UMNO cybertroopers have been told to train their guns at the Malay opposition leadership to consolidate the Malay vote.

  2. I really don’t get what UMNO is doing honestly. Aren’t they afraid the Malay will ask: Ini Tanah Melayu ke Tanah UMNO? UMNO cakap banyak hak istimewa Melayu tapi mengapa tidak cakap tangungjawab istimewa (pemimpin) UMNO bila rasuah?

  3. I like to go around the pro-UMNO blogs (like rockybru or Outsyed the Box) to drop what I call “truth bombs”. I talk about corruption, about the scandals like Scorpene, BMFL, Perwaja….the continued spending of money like there is no tomorrow. They have no answers, and then they employ their trolls to try and counter with all sorts of non-relevant accusations. Then, as a last resort, they refuse to publish my comments and rebuttals.

That’s how UMNO works. They ignore every crime they have committed, and then they try to censor us if they find that the heat is getting unbearable.

  4. ///Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today he has proposed to the Cabinet that the government distribute a second round of the 1 Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M).///

The UNREASONABLE Malay plays the “I help you, you help me” trick when elections loom.

  5. Dear reasonable Malay,
As a fellow Malaysian, I appeal to you to stand up against the unreasonable, corrupt and UMNOPutra Malays. Please stand up for a better Malaysia. We need you now more than ever. Let us all stand together to defeat the unreasonable corrupt UMNOPutra Malays. The future of Malaysia is in your hands. We saw some of you walking with us in 428 / B 3.0. Please continue to stand up and stand forward.

    Your fellow Malaysian

We must change the tenant at Putrajaya. GE 13 is coming. If there are no significant electoral reforms, first to Bersih 4.0, then to GE 13, then to Putrajaya.

Change we must. Change we can. Change we will.

  6. Najib does not feel shameful at all …being an unelected PM for more than 3 years.
Malaysians are peaceful people and the country is rich.
So we wait patiently for 13th GE….and Najib must keep delaying …even though his advisers said he still have 67% support?
    Najib is no fool.
He knows he does not HAVE 67% voters support.
He may have that % support from school children.
He cannot sack his advisers nor trust their reports
What he is really doing is hoping for a miracle or cheat big with votes.
Miracle is just a dream…the other is very dangerous for the country and people.
He is living between the Devil and the deep blue sea.

  7. When truth is so obvious, everyone can see it except the players who stage the show. No BN parties dare to talk about corruption, they know it and being a party to it, they will keep side-tracking that issue. They will bring out STUPID issues to mis-inform the less informed Malaysians in the rural area. They know they could NO LONGER mislead the average thinking Malays in the urban locations, they are certainly trying their luck with the majority of Indians, many of whom are easily misled because they are desperate for ANY Solution; so long the printed media is willing to print and sadly there are no shortage of such headline grabbing “Indian leaders” around! In the West Coast States, unless more rational Indian leaders can convince a good portion of Indians to focus on long term objectives, things could change. Notwithstanding the support the more active Chinese Malaysians has for change, a great many of them is still indifferent. We can only hope they wake up! It is good to see that bloggers have stopped trying to form their versions of Cabinet when the change comes about, let the elected leaders find a workable solution in the light of the current scenario and emotion of the majority of the voters.

  8. Dear monsterball,

Malaysians WERE united, friendly and good natured people UNTIL Mahathir took over the reign. To perpetuate his position, he reverted back to the British colonial system of ‘divide and rule’ so he could rob the national wealth with impunity. The gullible Malays supported him, UMNO B who benefited greatly supported him, the Chinese, Indians and Mamaks with close political cables supported him. Then there were the ordinary Malaysians who reluctantly supported him because Mahathir used the ghost of May 13 to frighten them. that is the reason he could stay in power for 22 years! Also, it is all thanks to Mahathir that big time corruption in UMNO B and the BN govt. has become a culture. Today, Malaysia is on the way to join Greece and if Malaysians don’t wake up NOW, throw the present UMNO B / BN govt. out, the future generations will suffer. Our women folks will work as maids in Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore …. our men will have to become construction workers and be called malaichai by the banglas. Agree????????

  9. Taxidriver, don’t talk about Mahathir to me. He is anathema.

If I meet him on the street I would cross the road so as not to pollute my shadow with his image.

The trouble is we do not know how many per cent of Malays are reasonable and among them do they realize that until recently when BN decided to pay 500 ringgit to the UMNO defined poor households, to buy votes no less, the government has been making use of NEP to enrich cronies of Mamakthir and cronies of other UMNO Presidents, including the present one. Just imagine how happy poor Malaysians would have been had the wealth gathered by Mamakputra’s cronies, in hundreds of billion are to be distributed to the poor, rather than staying with the dozens or so of Mamakputa’s cronies. 5 million of the UMNO defined poor have a share of 200 ringgit each for every billion ringgit that disappeared. Almost 1,000 billion ringgit has been sent abroad illegally, and these should have accrued 200,000 ringgit to each and every one of the UMNO defined poor. In fact had BN started giving subsidies to the poor rather than making a few Malays rich, under NEP, so that other Malays could feel proud, as if they were no longer placed in the special position that needed help, UMNO leaders would not have needed to become racists as they were, since they could not have been able to enrich themselves if the government was not corrupted. Of course had UMNO won a landslide win in 2008, the poor would have been forgotten. Even now while making some poor people happy, Najib is still selling money-making GLCs to a handful of Malays. It is said that this would increase the equity share held by Malays, to attain the infamous 30% NEP target. Certainly the handful of Malays chosen by Najib to take GLCs will become super rich. How does the increase of equity share held by a handful Malays, transferred to them from 26 million Malaysians, 60% of whom are Malays, help the 5 million poor persons who are recipients of the 500 ringgit handout? Surely they would much prefer to be given cash rather than be proud of increase in equity said to be owned by his community.

NEP stays because the government refuses to properly evaluate what percentage of equity share have actually been held in Malays’ hands. There is no increase in Malays’ equity share holding in selling GLCs to Malay companies. In fact had the government given a proper accounting, Malays equity shares would have actually increased with GLCs remaining in government if the equity share by community has been properly computed based on the racial composition of the people in the country, as ASLI had done. Of course to do that Najib would have no excuse to sell money making GLCs to make his cronies, or is it proxies unusually rich at the expense of the rest of the citizens. Najib may be making preparation to leave the country, now that he is not certain that BN would ever return to power.
