Give Hishammuddin a break

NOV 25 — Stop blaming Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein for the proposed Peaceful Assembly Act. He may be the minister in charge of the police but there is a reason why Nazri Aziz and not him proposed the Bill in Parliament: his boss, the Prime Minister does not trust him.

So we can blame him for tolerating the cow head protest, for his childish opposition to Bersih 2.0, for his right wing tendencies and not being the intellectual league of his father or grandfather.

But he cannot be blamed for the new assembly act, which makes Malaysia look decidedly second best to Myanmar. In Umno circles, people are afraid of shadows and enough of Najib’s boys have been talking about the political ambitions of his cousin.

The talk has had effect and Hishammuddin does not enjoy the complete confidence of the PM. Especially after the Bersih debacle where some 50,000 people turned up despite the police advising the capital city to be shut down.

This proposed law was the handiwork of Najib Razak, part of his plan of creating the belief that he is a reformer but instead putting up enough obstacles that it will be impossible for spontaneous street protests to happen.

It is part of the PM’s advisors strategy to blame others when things go wrong, as such it was Hishammuddin’s fault that the stadium offer for Bersih was rescinded on the advice of the police and intelligence circles who put up the spectre of a Thahrir Square sit-in.

Instead, the Bersih protesters ended their demonstration at 4.30pm with the city the way it was and nearly 1,700 enjoying biryani at the expense of the police, most of whom did not have even a nasi bungkus.

All said and done, Najib But signed off on the police crackdown just like he signed off on his “revolutionary” Peaceful Assembly Act. Not Hishamuddin.

So give Hishammuddin a break. He needs all the leeway now to find a safe seat in Johor for the next general election.

  1. What rubbish. The law will be useless. Protest will still go on with or without the Act in place. I dare umno to push the Act through parliament for they will see for themselves how futile that effort would be. And worse. Then it would become a real dilemna for umno. To use the Act or not in the event of street protest. For pure legality sake (if the Act is passed and therefore becomes laws) it must be upheld and applied. Yet, doing that would turn the whole country against umno. Not taking action would show umno up as a weak gobermen.

This is going to be one classic case where umno stupidly throw a large spanner into their own works!

  2. Nothing new here, all the actors trying to portray good cop and bad cop characters. But the rakyat already determined long ago that none of the two cousins “boleh pakai”. Jibby is not only seen (but then may not be real him) as a person to suit a Mr Flip-flopper but also a Mr dark & hideous character. He does not cease to wear multiple masks at different occasions and this makes him “a very still water that runs deep” indeed. Mr Hisap on the other hand has a big mouth but this mouth is offensive to the rakyat, especially as seen in occasions in Bersih2. He doesn’t need a break, it’s because he is actually killing himself off without anyone doing it for him. That’s also why he always get the blame, regardless whether he is involved or not.

  3. He has disgrace his father and grandfather.
All are rushing for safe seats.
    That is Najib’s cousin.
Favor him only….more Muslim votes will run away.
Headache…..headache..more headache…a rare man having menstruate period symptoms.

  4. Surely Hishamuddin must enter into history as one of the most juvenile ministers…

Just look at the way he barks orders and waves his instructions ……so much a kid with a swollen head wearing boots too big for himself.

That’s Hishammudidn…the one and only, if you like.

  5. Ya lor, dis Hisap guy, poor thing, is showing a WITHDRAWAL syndrome: Has NOT been, 4 a few years now, holding up an UNSHEATHED KRIS @ UmnoB general assembly while yellling

Perhaps next week he will get a chance 2 do it on stage again lor
