DAP dares MCA to dissolve and call for Najib’s resignation

KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 — The DAP challenged MCA leaders today to dissolve their party or call on the prime minister to resign should he lose Chinese community support in the coming general election.

DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang charged that the MCA was being hypocritical in calling for Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s resignation due to his failure to deliver the Chinese vote last week, pointing out that the MCA itself had performed no better in Election 2008.

In the Sarawak state polls last Saturday, Barisan Nasional (BN) lost 16 seats to the opposition, most of them Chinese-majority urban seats.

In Election 2008, MCA suffered its worst ever electoral defeat when it saw its parliamentary representation cut by more than half from 31 to just 15 seats.

“Now they are asking Taib to resign on grounds that he lost the Chinese vote. Will they apply the same standard to PM (Datuk Seri) Najib (Razak)?

“And why is MCA still in the Cabinet? Why was MCA’s president (Datuk Seri Dr) Chua Soi Lek so keen on securing his son (Chua Tee Yong) a deputy minister’s post?” Lim asked.

DAP publicity chief Tony Pua, who led the party’s campaign in Sarawak, agreed, saying that the MCA should “dissolve” itself for having failed in its purpose of representing the Chinese community.

“If you are talking about support based on race, the MCA has failed to represent the Chinese. So their organisation is completely irrelevant. They should dissolve themselves,” he said.

Lim and Pua were responding to a statement by MCA vice-president Gan Ping Sieu yesterday calling for Taib’s resignation due to the outcome of Saturday’s polls.

The DAP leaders also berated MCA’s Loh Seng Kok for “insulting the intelligence of Sarawak voters” when he claimed the Chinese community had been duped into voting for the opposition for racial reasons.

“They are insulting their intelligence because Sarawak voters, all those who supported DAP, were voting for the Pakatan Rakyat (PR). They were voting for new politics which surpasses racial boundaries,” said Lim.

He pointed out that the outcome of the Sarawak polls had not only shown an increase in Chinese community support towards the DAP but an improvement in support from all communities towards PR as a pact.

This, he said, was mirrored in how the opposition had managed to increase its popular vote from 37 per cent in 2006 to 45.5 per cent or 300, 288 votes while BN managed to secure 54.5 per cent or 372, 379 votes.

“MCA and Gerakan leaders are feeling so aggrieved that they were treated with utter contempt in Sarawak that they are making these nonsensical statements.

“It is their way to vent their anger. They should know their days are numbered unless they change and rise above racial politics,” said Lim.

Pua also pointed out that it was the MCA’s parallel, the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), that had played the race card in the polls in order to convince people to reject the opposition.

In its campaign, the SUPP had warned Sarawakians that they would lose Chinese representation in the state Cabinet if they voted for the DAP.

On April 16, however, the DAP scored an electoral upset by winning 12 of the 15 seats it contested, most of them Chinese-majority urban seats.

The SUPP was nearly wiped out when the party, which claims to represent the Chinese, won in just six of the 19 seats it contested, only two of which were Chinese majority while the rest were Dayak seats.

“I want to challenge MCA to point out when and where in our entire campaign in Sarawak were we racist? Go back to school and learn what racism is.

“Fighting corruption, abuse of power and nepotism is not racism. These issues cut across the races and if MCA thinks they are racist, they should evaluate their own party constitution which prohibits other races from taking part in their organisation,” said Pua.

Lim agreed, pointing out that the MCA and Gerakan were largely to blame for the SUPP’s fall in Sarawak as leaders for both the peninsula-based BN partners had joined in the election campaign.

“The real reason why SUPP did so badly was because of the assistance rendered by MCA and Gerakan leaders who have only served to highlight the need for the country to rise above race and go for new politics. Since peninsula voters have rejected Gerakan and MCA, the Sarawak voters are doing the same.

“Nobody cared about them in Sarawak. Not just that, they were treated like garbage and with utter contempt,” he said.

  1. Bark….bark….bark….

    Yes, Master

    Bark…bark…bark…

    Good DOGS

    Bark…bark…bark…

Go…to bark attack the SARAWAK Chief out…..

    Bark…bark…bark….

    Yes…Master

    Bark…bark…bark….

    Good Dogs…..

  2. MCA doing their masters’ dirty job again i see…

The big brother up there wants Taib out because he’s unpopular with the rakyat….. but doesn’t have the B@LLS to go against Taib.

So he sends his dogs to do this dirty work.

Who would wanna vote umno-loyal dogs to represent their community?

  3. Its difficult to fathom how CSL thinks. His unsolicited advice to SUPP not to take up state cabinet position is based on his view that Chinese would want effective representation than positions by their elected leaders.

Whilst his statement is correct he shoots his own foot cos it is precisely because of this position by Chinese Community that MCA was generally routed in last 2008 GE and when it proferred to campaign for SUPP, the latter was routed as well no thanks to MCA’s help.

What puzzles is that CSL appears heedless of internal inconsistency that when he points his finger at others, three others are pointed back at him. For eg he says nothing of the 4 MCA ministers in Federal cabinet and MCA’s Mah Hang Soon in state executive council (after 2008 GE), & Cabinet post awarded to his son in lieu of one not offered to him of which he has no benefit of saying he declined it.

  4. Continuing from above-

If real and not sham representation is what Chinese voters want and they have determined that MCA cannot deliver in that respect – it cannot even avert its luminaries being solely blamed/charged for PKFZ’s fiasco), then next GE will see MCA being routed likely even more severely.

Then expressing his view as he does now, he & his ministers could & should not at that time like Gerakan’s Dr Koh Tsu Koon accept positions back door via senatorship. If they do accept will he then blame Ong Tee Keat again???

Without such spoils of position he may as well wind up MCA or otherwise have to eat his own words and accept positions.

The writing on the wall, even Utusan malaysia sees it, so its difficult to understand what CSL is trying to prove.

  5. It is a real problem with Najib. He always has this and that slogans without any meat, such as 1malaysia, plus some of the very strange plans, such as the 1email. Moreover, he walked around to distribute people’s money during election and by elections. He must be regarded as a joker among the leaders in the region. Very soon we can join those republics in Africa.

  6. MCA leaders can only hope to be admitted as back door Ministers and Senators after next GE by virtue of their 100% loyalty to UMNO. Yes, the party assets is now their main concern as they fight over their inheritance after their impending demise.
Likewise, UMNO is also sucking in air as Malaysia approaches next GE. Soon it will be a full time job just watch the rats deserting their sinking BN ship as they are being demoted to opposition bench by the rakyat.

  7. The people of Malaysia want Chinese to be represented and be truly representing Chinese in the government. But MCA’s Ministers in the government are only yes-men. Yes-men cannot represent the Chinese community. So Chinese in Malaysia do not want Chinese to be used for window dressing, and allowed UMNO to say, such as Mamakthir claimed, that all the government policies had been agreed to by the coalition parties.

If Chua Soi Lek for argument sake declared that MCA had actually agreed to government policies such as the extension of NEP till eternity, without a need to review the statistical evaluation process such as through a RCI, then MCA was not capable of representing Chinese. CSL should realize that by sitting together with ministers in the cabinet and enriching themselves in the process does not represent the people who are classified as the same race. In fact if MCA is not around to give excuse for UMNO to remain a race-based party there would be no need for racial representation.

Chinese know that in playing racial card the minority races will lose. To hope for compassion especially from UMNO is not a strategy. The strategy is to break down the old political structure based on race so that new structure based on policies that transcend race and religion would emerge. That would stop corrupted political opportunists continue to enriching themselves with impunity utilizing racial diversity as a pretext of racial disunity over the last three decades, particularly since the Mamakthir administration. Utusan Melayu’s call for 1Melayu is a clear example that MCA is not respected in the government. MCA is ill, and it is time to kill it once and for all.

To have UMNO dissolved, MCA should go first.

  8. Best thing for MCA, Gerakan, SUPP and other mosquito parties is to withdraw from the BN and become INDEPENDENT non-aligned parties.

This way, it has options as to which way it wants to turn and bend.

  9. ///“Fighting corruption, abuse of power and nepotism is not racism. These issues cut across the races and if MCA thinks they are racist, they should evaluate their own party constitution which prohibits other races from taking part in their organisation,” said Pua.///

Mamakthir said that fighting racism is racist. He even said that by winning seats DAP introduced racism in Sarawak. What if the SUPP candidates won all their seats, would it then be UMNO introducing racism in Sarawak? He would certainly have a different answer.

A person who does not differentiate right from wrong had been Prime Minister of Malaysia for 22 years. Malaysia has not only lost 22 years, it has to endure the harm harm created by Mamakthir’s mindset which will take many more years to be eradicated, if eradication ever started. But UMNO leaders emulate the way Mamakthir showed in utilizing NEP to enrich themselves. This is evidenced by the outflow of 888billion ringgit through illegal process. God knows how much have left legally from wealth created through corrupt practice.

  10. Just wondering…what benefit does the Rakyats get out of this challenge?

//“And why is MCA still in the Cabinet? Why was MCA’s president (Datuk Seri Dr) Chua Soi Lek so keen on securing his son (Chua Tee Yong) a deputy minister’s post?” Lim asked.//

Are you implying that is nepotism…Just curious coz…If we could recall…LKS never talked about this subject…

  11. Money Collecting Association is a racist party claiming to represent to champion the rights of the Chinese which in fact it had all along been helping to enrich the rich businessmen for the past decades.Just to prove my point count the number of leaders who were multimillionaires accumulating wealth enough to feed their many future geneations at the expence of the poor gullible chinese.Just count the number of seats won by the party in Chinese majority area is proof enough that the chinese population clearly reject them.So they can only squeak like frightened mice and hungrily swallow all the crumbs thrown by the UMNO master.Come 13GE disband if they are rejected by the chinese community if at all they have any honour and respect. To say that DAP is a racist party only backfire because other races are members whereas only chinese can be members in MCA.So to the Hell with MCA and I will vote for any party which fight for a Just Malaysia for all races irrespective of colour or religion.

  12. //The DAP leaders also berated MCA’s Loh Seng Kok for “insulting the intelligence of Sarawak voters” when he claimed the Chinese community had been duped into voting for the opposition for racial reasons.//

From the result of Sarawak election,we can conclude that not only chinese but across all ethnics are becoming more intelligent and aware in their political surrounding in order to give their support to PR.Unfortunately due to gerrymandering, postal votes, phantom voters, votes buying, intimidation and so on..BN still barely can hidup untill the next GE.Be well prepared in ‘courtesy’ to say bye-bye to it and its monkeys, donkeys n faithful mistresses.

On the other hand,we can say Loh Seng Kok,the poodle member of MCA is becoming more sly and skewed till he is willing to go to the extent to sell his whole family members for the crumbs that randomly will fall off from his master’s coffee table.Instead of him questioning the intelligence of Sarawakian voters,i started to feel worry and suggest he without any delay, have his brain tested for IQ coupled with surgery to correct the skewed parts and wires inside his pea-brain.

Ya rambutan, bend over that side for soiled leg as well.Nice and long yo.

  13. Come on MCA leaders, don’t think that the rakyat are stupid!

Why push the responsibility and place the blame here and there?

If you are serious about not being in the Cabinet, you can quit right now, no body is stopping any of you! No need to wait until 13th election!!!

  14. Come-on la Dr. Chua, the MCA you are heading is not relevant anymore. When your party which claims to represent the Chinese community is rejected by the Chinese community, what more excuse do you have? Why not just ‘Tapao’ to stop people laughing at all you fellas in the party?
