What Are Workflow Management Rules?

Workflow management rules are a set of policies and procedures that regulate the completion of workflows. They specify which steps can be completed and when. This allows the process to follow the most efficient path. When a business employs an organized workflow to automate its most repetitive and predictable tasks, it frees employees’ time to concentrate on strategic initiatives.

Workflows can come in various formats to suit any project. For instance an orderly workflow is one that requires that the next step can’t begin until the previous one is completed. A state-machine flow is a sequence of tasks that are performed on a product in a specific sequence. Each step moves the product into a distinct state, for example “being completed” or “being written”. State-machine workflows could also have additional rules in place such as if-this-then that conditional logic, which determines the workflow’s route.

Additionally, parallel workflows include numerous steps that can be completed simultaneously towards a goal, such as sending a sweater to a client once the company has confirmed that it’s available. These can all be automated using an application for workflow.

With the right tools for managing workflows it’s simple to create and manage processes that are structured to improve productivity, accountability and efficiency. By streamlining communication and ensuring that everyone in the team is aware of their responsibilities and roles and have a clear map of them, managers can reduce the confusion that leads to delays in projects and deadlines.
