August 10 is not D-Day for Khalid but D-Day for Pakatan Rakyat

Sunday, August 10, 2014 is not so much D-Day for Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor Mentri Besar but D-Day for the six-year old Pakatan Rakyat whether it could continue to embody the hopes and aspirations of Malaysians for political change to usher in the new politics of justice, freedom, accountability, transparency, good governance, Malaysian unity and harmony after decades of UMNO hegemony, corruption and injustices.

The Pakatan Rakyat Leadership Council at its meeting on July 23, 2014 with the participation of leaders from all three PR component parties of PAS, PKR and DAP, agreed on two things:

(i) The change and replacement of Selangor Mentri Besar, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim; and

(ii) PAS and DAP to convene meetings of their respective Central Committees to decide on the PKR nomination of Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail as the new Selangor Mentri Besar.

The developments in the past two weeks pertaining to the issue of the Selangor Mentri Besar after the July 23 meeting of PR Majlis Pimpinan have gravely undermined public confidence in the unity of purpose, cohesion and future of Pakatan Rakyat as a viable alternative coalition to UMNO-Barisan Nasional to bring about the political changes as hoped for by Malaysians as demonstrated in the results of the 13th General Elections on May 5 last year, with over 52 per cent of the popular vote supporting PR.

Pakatan Rakyat is faced with the worst crisis since its formation after the 12th General Elections in April 2008.

Can Pakatan Rakyat survive its worst crisis of confidence?

This will depend on the commitment of all Pakatan Rakyat leaders to the original aspirations in the formation of Pakatan Rakyat and the common policy framework agreed by Pakatan Rakyat component parties in the past six years, particularly in the first PR statement on 1st April 2008 which pledged “to uphold the rights and interests of all Malaysians, regardless of religion or race, as enshrined in the Constitution”.

If all Pakatan Rakyat leaders, whether DAP, PAS or PKR, continue to be guided by the PR common policy principles and framework so as to give hope to Malaysians for the long-needed changes in the political landscape in the country so that Malaysia can become a united, just, democratic, competitive and prosperous nation which holds itself out as beacon of light of a successful multi-racial and multi-religious nation to the rest the world, then PR will forge ahead from strength to strength to its destiny to replace the UMNO/BN coalition in the 14th General Elections.

The alternative is too horrendous to contemplate for PR will be relegated to the footnotes of Malaysian history.

  1. After more than 6 years in power in a few states, PR kaki r showing their true colors n incompetence 2 d nation n d world

Instead of positive news n achievements, PR kaki r generating negative news n walloping each other almost daily in 2014

Who is/are telling lies? Sue or be sued?

2 b fully transparent, PR kaki should go 2 Taman Negara, Teluk Bahang, Penang 2 bare their souls, otherwise soon PR is history

  2. it looks like the MB Khalid is acting like a demi-God, who is above all rules and laws ! Imagine if he had been appointed a Cabinet Minister or Prime Minister, it is very likely he would make the cabinet and Malaysia the laughing stock. Does he want everything his own way and wantonly destroys anything or anyone that stands in his way. It seems now with his latest move to ask for the change in date to Aug 15 for his disciplinary hearing is pressing the point that he cares for no one. If you are his boss, he shows you no respect, so why retain him. He has grown too big for his boots. Does PAS want someone like him on their team ? PAS interferes in areas where they have no right to. Having fun, Khalid? Beware the ides of March.

If we truly think we are a professional, there is always someone else who is even more professional and better than we are, that is the way it has always been. NO ONE IS INDISPENSABLE. Unfortunately for all the long-suffering people of Selangor and rest of the Malaysians, we are being treated to a free circus, produced, directed and starring HIM. Get it over.

Is there any conspiracy hidden moves between PAS and him and UMNO with the latest extensions to Aug 15 and 17 dates? Playing for time? Preparing another bombshell?
    Anyone want to comment ?

  3. What a sad day it is for Malaysians who put their faith and trust in Pakatan Rakyat with the hopes of seeing changes in the country. God forbid if Selangor is returned to UMNO/BN rule!

All the political backstabbings and washing of dirty linens in public aren’t going to help to resolve the impasse. Pakatan may have to “Go for broke” if there is no workable solution in sight, sooner than later. It appears to me there is a de facto UMNO government in the makings.

The other possibility is for the progressive democrats in PAS to exert their influence on the party grassroots to adhere to the party’s stands on the common manifesto.

An election is a good time to separate the wheat from the chaff for PR to become viable as a force given the lesson here. There is nothing worse than having a friend who walks behind you with a hidden knife. You may lose everything, but then again, you may not. Methinks the Selangorians will be out in force to vent their frustrations on those hidden hands behind this sad episode. I, for one, can speak for myself.

I see YB Khalid as being compromised. His position as MB is no longer tenable. He has to go!

  4. Would like to appeal to the MB to understand what is happening now is unfortunately casting a big shadow over all parties. Seeing and reading the news in the news media is depressing and emotive to everyone. It is never too late to do the right thing and reconcile, shall we all chill, cool, calm down, and I am always optimistic and would like to believe there is always good and good intentions in everyone. As they say, even in politics there are no enemies.

  5. Here is my verdict after all the drama on this matter: Khalid has got to go, yes BUT so is it with Anwar and Azmin.

The charges against Khalid, is a string of quiestions, even if valid does not merit putting the entire PR into a mess just to do it. ITS TOTAL LEADERSHIP FAILURE ON THE PART OF ANWAR AND AZMIN..

The deals that Khalid supposedly is questionable, is just that questionable. Its not absolute. Did PKR, Anwar and other leaders of PR made it clear such questions were not standards acceptable to PR for the start? NO. Freaking no way. I have looked at the deals and while it could have been better done, back seat driving is easy, you live and make better with who you hire to do the job. THAT IS LEADERSHIP.

Khalid should have handle the matters better, he is no political master and he made mistakes. It is time for him to go unfortunately and he is better off leaving the mess no matter how possibly unfair it is to him.

I DON’T CARE FOR THE INTERNAL PROBLEMS OF PR OR ANWAR OR AZMIN EVEN KHALID. ITS ME AND PEOPLE LIKE ME THAT MATTERS.

SO BE WARNED. PR and PKR and even DAP, dont believe you are entitled to ANYTHING just because you are politicians. Most of us could not care less what you think you are entitled to.
