Call on Malaysian patriots and moderates regardless of race, religion or political affiliation to come forward to save Malaysia from extremists

Yesterday, Penang UMNO staged a demonstration in response to the kangkung-theme flash mob organised by PKR Machang Bubuk assemblyman, Lee Khai Loon.

I have no objection to Penang UMNO staging a peaceful demonstration but all right-thinking Malaysians must be horrified that the Penang UMNO demonstration was a blatant and shameless incitement of racial and religious hatred, tensions and conflict in Malaysia which must be condemned by all patriotic and peace-loving Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, region or political affiliation.

If any of the Pakatan Rakyat parties had been involved in such-like demonstration as the one conducted by Penang Umno, unashamedly and blatantly inciting racial and religious hatred, tensions and conflict, the police would have acted immediately and the Pakatan Rakyat leaders involved would have been behind bars awaiting trial for sedition.

Why is there no action by the Police and the authorities to stop such dangerous, irresponsible, incendiary and seditious incitement of racial and religious hatred, tensions and conflict by Penang UMNO yesterday Umno protesters yesterday indulged in the worst form of political gangsterism and thuggery, threatening with the rhetorical question: “Does DAP want another May 13” and carried the most blood-curdling racist and religious slogans and banners, even with one banner in blood red with the screaming words: “Because of DAPs leaders mouth, May 13, 1969 happened…Want some more?” and other inflammatory banners like “ABCD – Asal Bukan Cina DAP” and “DAP is the enemy of Islam”.

DAP was not in any way involved with Lee Khai Loon’s “kangkung” flash-mob demo against Najib and there is no justification except the height of base and irresponsible politicking to implicate the DAP with the incident.

Khai Loon has said that he had never meant to insult the Prime Minister but to highlight the people’s burden and hardships as a result of the price hikes.

I admit that I was taken aback when I first saw news report about the flash-mob demo of the stuffing of kangkung into the mouth of Najib’s effigy, as it would be regarded as quite offensive in some quarters and I knew that it would be distorted and manipulated by irresponsible elements out to incite and inflame emotions, even trying to racialise it as an attack by the Chinese against a Malay Prime Minister.

This is a great fallacy because Najib is not a Malay Prime Minister but should be a Prime Minister for all Malaysians.

Furthermore, it is not only Chinese, but Malays, Indians, Kadazans and Ibans who are taking part in the “kangkung tsunami” of videos, jokes, sketches, even crossing national boundaries to become a most embarrassing international news on BBC and Singapore Straits Times.

The flash-mob demo of the stuffing of kangkung into the mouth of Najib’s effigy is in poor taste but I agree with Anwar Ibrahim that the butt dance by pro-government groups comprising army veterans in front of Bersih co-ordinator Ambiga Sreenevasan in 2012 was much worse than the “kangkung flash mob”.

But no Umno protests had ever been staged against the utterly tasteless butt dance!

While Malaysian politics and public affairs can gain from the absence of incidents like the “kangkung stuffing into the mouth of Najib’s effigy” and the butt dance , there can be no excuse or justification for anyone, whether the political leadership, their controlled media or their cybertroopers, to distort and escalate the dangerous and irresponsible incitement of racial and religious hatred, conflicts and tensions or even worse, the failure of the Police and the authorities to put an immediate stop to such inflammatory and incendiary provocations which undermine inter-racial and inter-religious peace and harmony in the country.

This is not an isolated incident as there had been a recent series of inflammatory and incendiary statements and actions seeking to provoke a breakdown of inter-racial peace and harmony through lies and falsehoods.

For instance, the Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was accused by Umno cybertroopers of being racialistic and responsible for the closure of Selangor Giatmara vocational school in criticising it as catering for one race only. I asked Guan Eng about it and he said he had never uttered a single word about Selangor Giatmara.

Then there was the case of a school board member of a Chinese primary school in Kota Tinggi who told a Muslim convert teacher to take off her “tudung” to continue teaching at the school. This is wrong and should be a lesson to all Malaysians to be sensitive and to respect the different religions and customs in plural Malaysia. But this is a wrongdoing of an individual, who has since apologised for his action. What is most deplorable is that there are attempts by UMNO cybertroopers to put the blame of the incident on the DAP, when nobody from DAP knew about it or had condoned the wrongdoing.

Now, there is an attempt to drag in the DAP to give a communal twist to the kangkung flash-mob in Bukit Mertajam when it has nothing to do with the DAP.

This is the time for Malaysian patriots and moderates, regardless of race, religion or political affiliation, to dissociate and denounce in no uncertain terms the irresponsible and dangerous ploys and antics of extremists who want to inflame and incite racial and religious hatred, tensions and conflict in the country like the Penang demo yesterday.

In fact, I call on Malaysian patriots and moderates regardless of race, religion or political affiliation to come forward to save Malaysia from extremists inciting racial and religious hatred, tensions and conflict.

All patriotic Malaysians, whether Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans or Ibans, and regardless of whether they are in Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Rakyat, want peace, harmony and tolerance to continue as the hallmarks of Malaysian nationhood.

They should step forward to expose and isolate the dangerous extremists who want to inflame and incite racial and religious hatred, tensions and conflict for their short-term opportunistic objectives as the overwhelming majority of moderates in Malaysia cannot remain silent but must act immediately so as not to allow a tiny handful of extremists to destroy Malaysia.

  1. Umno and perkasa goons are all the same. No brains, can’t articulate, can’t debate. Look at the YouTube debate about a11ah hosted by aljazeera. The perkasa goon can’t even talk. Malulah.

  2. Patriots and those that consider themselves just Malaysian have to step forward BUT with discipline and determination. The extremist are already making one mistake after another. The demo and extremism all over the place with no focus, just a spewing of venom bred and grown from dark places in their minds and soul. At this time, its paramount to keep cool even as the extremist are losing their minds.

The fact they are all over the place with their message and arguments means it won’t work unless they have a monopoly on their attention which grows increasingly less. AND everytime they make a mistake, are wrong, caught with their own lies, or more problems such as rising prices, scandals etc appears, the message will be less convincing and just keep compounding their problem.

Another May 13 simply won’t work for them. UMNO simply is the only one that can be held responsible for another one Their whole exercise is pointless. They simply are not thinking and hence its the advantageous to keep thinking harder.

  5. Mr Lim,

It’s the usual double standards at play here.

UMNO cohorts can stir up as much trouble as they like, call for another May 13, insult other races, etc etc and get away with it,

But any peaceful and benign protest by the Opposition is stomped upon by PDRM.

  6. Get it right, people! These are paid troublemakers and agent provocateurs. This is not about speaking out in defense of PM Najib but rather to destabilise him. If Najib won’t or can’t do anything about this, he will end up soon just like our Bapa Malaysia. Sound familiar, anyone?

How many of those half-baked cookies look ‘Malay’ to you and me? Penang Umno secretary and Bukit Mertajam division chief Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir? Kepala Batas MP, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican? How many in UMNO today that hold the power are the ‘Malays’ we know from the early days? That said, some UMNO division meetings like those in Penang, I was told, were conducted in Tamil!

This is what my Malay counterparts had to say over dinner. “These so-called ‘Malays’ with their uncivilized behaviors are actually doing our Malays more harm than good. They thought we were all fools and swallow everything they do in our name. What nonsense! If they are thinking of another May 13th, let me tell you that this time it will be between our Malays and those faked ‘Malays’ out there, he said.”

    1. There you are, people! Do not get angry, get even. Hurt them where it hurts most – their pockets! And this is a good time as any to do it when most of us are struggling with the ever rising cost in living.

    2. I think you should exhort our melayu brethen to convince other melayu brethrens of viewing issues objectively. What’s point of having few rational melayus when most of them (as alleged by this clown ktemoc) says that Father lawrence’s statement exercabated the issue. Can LKS smack this joker? Hahahaha

  7. WHAT do PATRIOTS get?
Patriots who r concerned abt d economy, rising food prices, n incompetent hollow-minded CORRUPT cabinet ministers who do NOT know how 2 run d country n enable humongous losses of our national rich incomes through CORRUPT practices
    WHAT do PATRIOTS get?
BLARDI threats fr hollow-minded n blind racist followers of incompetent hollow-minded CORRUPT cabinet ministers
They rather eat kangkung than 2 discuss objectively how 2 prevent d economy fr sliding further n how 2 STOP CORRUPTION 1
Of cos, mata2 NO eyes on law n order – d MOB got apply 4 permit 4 peaceful @sembly or not? No stopping d mob 1, some more got mata2 company, n no invite 2 balai mata2 1

1 good thingy out of dis kangkung thingy
M’sia truly FAMOUS now – everyday in international news what over a vegetable, thanks 2 our big fat kangkung chief lor
Fr @lLAH 2 kangkung, d world out there must b thinking dis oil-rich nation must b full of hollow-core jokers

  8. This nation so desperately need Patriots and good men

The Agung, likely not on purpose, simply broke this nation over the weekend. Before the Constitution, before the law, there is this unwritten agreement we call a nation – we agree to be one country, one nation. The Agung by saying this language, this word, belongs to only some, regardless of the law, the constitutions says we are NOT one nation.

Evil managed to get good men and patriots to do nothing..

    1. BigJoe,

The Agung was 110% right in asking all Malaysians to respect the rights of Malaysian Muslims.

After all, we are his subjects and any threat, real or perceived, against any Malaysians, in this case. in the matter of Islam, must be met with a unified front by ALL Malaysians.

I now await his statement asking for all Malaysians to respect the rights of Malaysian non-Muslims.

  9. ///Call on Malaysian patriots and moderates regardless of race, religion or political affiliation to come forward to save Malaysia from extremists.///

    Alright. Let the experiment begin.

I will feed that into umno and then see what comes out later.

    Come boy. Come here.

    Glurp. Glurp. Glurp.

    There, umno. Well fed.

    12 hrs later.

Umno: “DAP is anti-agung, anti-sultan, anti-monarch, anti-islam, anti-malaysia, anti-melayu (read umno), racist, unpatriotic, ungrateful and deserves to be locked away for a long time without trial (ooops, that is no longer available but anyway) and has to have the citizenship of all its members revoked.”

  10. The more I read about the behaviour of these extremists who are given such leeway, the more I think we should let things drift in the manner UMNO had planned for them. The MAJORITY of Malaysians should wake up and if THEY still think that they can dream of 1st world scenario, we may as well let them drift in their dream through omission of any reaction to the current situation. They seem to allow a handful of these jokers to jeopardize the interests of the nation; thinking that such situation may suit their current objective. No nation or even empire has survived if the economic is going down the slope; perhaps the USA with the Reserved Dollars [cost of printing is just 4 cents; whatever the denominations] and I am certain UMNO have the same thought of the ringgit; afterall most of them have stashed enough in overseas currencies already. To those who are left stranded, the only option for your children is through education and you better spend either some money for private education or gather amongst yourselves and organize your own tuition if need be. Today it is reported that the DPM is going to London to present our education performance; among the most expensive in ASEAN; based on PCI and also the least successful with Thailand and Vietnam leaving us behind! I believe too much writing in the blog may just more fire to this bunch who is bent on maintaining the status quo, they just don’t give a damn to the future; they can think or imagine beyond what they can get for today!

  11. Any SMART M’sians should keep at least 50% of their cash NOT in RM but in SGD, AUD, USD, etc
RM going 2 join d WWII banana notes
Start thinking of seeking political asylum too, cos Perkosa-UmnoB kaki may go amok any time, they just love 2 start Mei 13 again
Just need a pol-pot among them, then POW, Year Zero n killing fields

  12. National Automotive Policy – same like Education Blueprint.

    No-brainer.

Nothing can be more stupid; save that it protects UMNO cronies and some kickbacks. It’s nothing to do with affirmative policies or Bumiputera participation. Call a spade a spade: it’s literally ripping off Malays, Chinese and Indians billions.

This stupid UMNO government deserves to be dumped into any cesspool worthy of its filth.

Now auto manufacturers worldwide have every reason to remain in Thailand and open up assembly plants in Indonesia, Vietnam – except Malaysia.

When Ministers let bias and rent-seeking stand in the way of their morals and education…. this is what happens.

    The NAP is immoral.
