The Star today front-paged “1 Party for All”, declaring: “Parti 1Malaysia is among the names being considered for Barisan Nasional if its component parties merge into a multi-racial party to meet current political needs and expectations. Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who described the proposal as ‘rational’, said an in-depth study should be conducted and a decision made within the next few months.”
Sixty-two years ago, the founding President of UMNO Datuk Onn Jaffar had already made the proposal that UMNO should open its doors to non-Malay membership and UMNO should be renamed from United Malays National Organisation to United Malayans National Organisation.
Onn was too far ahead of his time and he had to leave UMNO when his proposal for an end to race-based politics was rejected by UMNO.
It is better late than never that some in UMNO and the other Barisan Nasional component parties are broaching the subject of an end to race-based politics and race-based political parties – and there can be no denial that the cause of this re-visiting the subject of an end to race-based politics is because of the outcome of the recent 13th general elections.
For a start, the Prime Minister and UMNO President, Datuk Seri Najib Razak should admit that he had made a major mistake and misjudgment when he had said on the night of May 5 that the outcome of the 13GE was a “Chinese tsunami”, for analysis of the 13GE has vindicated the case that it was not a Chinese tsunami, but a Malaysian tsunami representing a political awakening of Malaysians transcending race.
It is not just Chinese, but Malays, Indians, Kadazans and Ibans who want UBAH!
It is a Malaysian, urban, semi-urban and most important of all a youth tsunami, for one of the most encouraging and inspiring aspects of the 13GE is the enthusiasm and commitment of young Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, region or gender, who stood up for a better, clean, green, safe, united and prosperous Malaysia.
The question is whether Muhyiddin and those in Barisan Nasional who are talking about the new politics transcending race are sincere and serious, or just want to be seen to be trendy and up-to-date to the latest political aspirations in the country but who would not want to upset the status quo and work for the end of race-based politics which had been the formula for their monopoly of political power for half a century.
For a start, there is no point talking about Parti 1Malaysia or other combination or permutations for the end of race-based politics if UMNO/BN leaders not prepared to accept 13GE outcome as a Malaysian tsunami, particularly young Malaysians of all races, who want to see the end of the politics of race including the dissolution of all race-based parties like UMNO, MCA and MIC.
Is Najib and all UMNO/BN leaders prepared to publicly acknowledge that the 13GE outcome is not a Chinese tsunami, but a Malaysian, urban, semi-urban and youth tsunami and that the provocative Utusan Malaysia question “What more the Chinese want” is utterly inappropriate, mischievous and irresponsible?
Dis nation will b 4 d BETTER if we hv more MPs/ADUNs n politicians like retired Admiral Mohamad Imran Abd Hamid, newly-elected PKR Lumut MP
He puts all UmnoB racist bigots 2 SHAME
How can people who talk about Malay first, Malaysian second, allow their party to become “1 Party for All”? It will be a miracle if they dare turn their party into “1 Party for All”.

Ask UmnoB cheats n divide-n-rule racists: Is dis Chinese tsunami? Bodoh punya – still peddling old ‘playing 1 ethnic grp against another ethnic grp’ lies 2 hang on 2 power 2 ENRICH themselves
Enuf of their cheats – put them on a SPRING or MUSIM BUNGA n catapult them 2 their own shiok syiok land
They prefer go to museum rather than change
Parti 1Makansemua lagi appropriate lah
sekarang nie, BN=Parti Sapu Malaysia
As usual, this will just be another one of those re-branding exercise just like all those nice sounding slogans that we have since merdeka. Remember, the “Amanah dan Cekap” slogan used by Tun Mahathir a long long time ago.
Also, remember, MACC, touted to be modelled after Hong Kong’s ICAC but turned out to be its old self, ACA. Old wine in new bottle.
They can admit all Malaysians into the party but its only on the surface that looks good. The decision makers are still the same with the same old mentality. Unless the top echelon of leaders change their thinking (which I doubt can be changed) or replace these leaders, then this Party 1 Malaysia is just a futile exercise and its just a Public Relations exercise to hood wink the rakyat.
Just listen to the comments of some our new Ministers and community leaders. Their mindset are frozen in time. They still don’t realize that the world is now smaller and borderless. International competition is threatening Malaysia’s survival and progress and it is no longer a case of Malays vs Chinese vs Indians vs Ibans vs ……. It is now MALAYSIANS vs the rest of the world. What is more ludicrous is that the maybe 5% ultra Malays are controlling 95% of the more progressive and modern thinking Malays.
Just like the recently concluded PRU13, I guess the minority always rule over the majority!
Parti 1Malaysia Perkasa = P1MP.
Don’t waste time to these bunch hopeless
Better take time to enjoy
PKR n PR politicians:
Plz DON’T abuse d trust voters placed on U
Plz DON’T b a CLONE of UmnoB/BN, after having been elected as MPs/ADUNs, want 2 grab power n use d elected positions 2 ENRICH yourselves n cronies
when will some BN politicians start to leave their parties?
How can Najib’s blame the ge 13 because of chinese tsumani. Chinese population only 25%. Please don t make the chinese as the scapegoat. Blame the malaysian because they are getting smarter everyday while you bunch of donkies are going back to the future.
The name for Parti 1 Malaysia really not suitable to be consider. BN should be changing its name to Barisan Najis or Barisan Penyamun…… sounds better.
Why is there a need for Parti 1Malaysia? Barisan Nasional can continue as UMNO,MCA, and MIC. The problem is with the current corruption level and scandals after scandals that were swept under the carpet. Afterall, even with a re-branding of BN, what about Utusan? Are they going to toe the line by practising REAL responsible journalism? Before thinking about Parti 1 Malaysia, better for Najib to come out with a statement to condemn all thought and act that promulgates racism. By book, Party 1 Malaysia seems a nice thought, but it is the mechanism and implementation in it that needs detailed scrutiny.
UMNO is gangrenous. No amount in cosmetic changes will do it any good. Any component party under its dominance will soon die a natural death. The right thing to do is an amputation from the lifeline of this nation.
UMNO Terbaru/UMNO Abang, Lain Adek/Pura-pura 1 Malaysia/UMNO à la Datuk Onn/, … . There can be a competition to chose the best name for the new party of oppression, a competition open to 1 Malaysia.
Whatever its name it will smell the same. This new party is a ruse for UMNO to slither out of its fated extinction. People of goodwill don’t trust UMNO. It remains to be seen whether all the people can, indeed, be fooled all the time – as certain people seem to think.
