SHAH ALAM, April 22 – Datuk Seri Najib Razak described Datuk Zulkifli Noordin today as a champion of Indian issues in Shah Alam where the Perkasa vice-president is contesting in Election 2013.

The BN chairman’s defence of the controversial Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate comes even as MIC leader S. Vell Paari warned the ruling coalition recently that the Malay rights leader would cost BN Selangor in the May 5 polls.

“I’ve spoken to quite a number of Indians and they’re supporting him,” said the caretaker prime minister in a press conference at the Concorde Hotel here today.

“He’s already championed some issues pertaining to the Indian community in Shah Alam, like a Tamil school and another temple in Shah Alam,” added the Selangor BN chairman.

Vell said last Wednesday that BN was risking the Indian vote by fielding Zulkifli, which he said would likely become the deciding vote in states like Selangor that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) had won in Election 2008.

Zulkifli will be contesting against incumbent Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad in the Malay-majority state capital, who is seen as a progressive voice in PAS.

Vell, who is the son of former MIC chief Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, also noted that there are some 15,000 Indian voters in Shah Alam, 31,000 in Kota Raja, 21,000 in Kapar and 17,000 in Subang, many among whom he said were angered by Najib’s selection of Zulkifli, who had allegedly insulted the Hindu community.

Najib, however, dismissed Zulkifli’s actions as “history”, noting that the former PAS man had apologised over his remarks.

Najib also hit out at the Selangor government for destroying seven Hindu temples in the country’s wealthiest state.

“Isn’t that more serious? More of a slap to the Hindus than what Zulkifli Noordin said 10 years ago when he was in PAS?” he said.

“They even destroyed a private temple in Sepang. That is worse, a thousand times worse than what Zulkifli Noordin has done,” added Najib.

A video of Zulkifli uttering the word “Keling”, which Malaysians of Indian descent consider derogatory, went viral recently, just days after another video was released in which he questioned an Indian trader on why Hindu gods did not prevent the man’s shop from being flooded, drawing the wrath of Hindus.

Once a lawyer for opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Zulkifli had also questioned the purity of the Ganges River in India that is considered sacred by Hindus.

Zulkifli became a BN-friendly Independent MP and critical of the opposition when he was dismissed from PKR on March 6, 2010 over a police report he lodged against Khalid.

Umno’s Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Shamsuddin lost to Khalid in Election 2008 with a 9,314-vote majority. In 2004, he had won against Khalid with a 13,410-vote majority.

  1. Don’t know how much $$$ he was given after becoming a BN-friendly Independent MP. Seeing that the market is in acute shortage of Independent MPs who could tip the political balance that will decide which party will take helm of the country, many independent candidates rush to try their luck in GE13 in attempts to rake in quick bucks.

  2. Until Vell Paari gives Zulkifli Noordin a kiss on the cheek and a bear hug, no Indian should believe Najib, Zukifli or any BN man.

    Zul could also go to an Indian temple and do some penance.

  3. This fella is a racist bigot. He belongs Kamunting on sedition and inciting racial hatred. Yet Ah Cheap Kor chooses him to stand as a Parliamentarian. That shows how much respect he has for us and his 1Malaysia.

    Dear Friends in Shah Alam please send this man where he belongs, certainly, NOT in Parliament. Teach him a lesson. Malaysia 2.0 has no place for racist bigots.

    We must change the tenant at Putrajaya, GE 13 is 13 days away. Let us all work doubly hard. Get all eligible to work. Make every work count. First to GE 13, then to Putrajaya,

    Change we must. Change we can. Change we shall.
    Time for change.

  4. ///“I’ve spoken to quite a number of Indians and they’re supporting him,” said the caretaker prime minister/// Seriously can one expect them to have dared say that they don’t support him, when asked? He’s Perkasa vice-president. The president itself was not named BN candidate earlier in spite of the former PM’s open endorsement of him, only to be changed following (surprise surprise] the withdrawal of the Umno-chosen candidate. We all know who’s patron of Perkasa. And Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin is not contesting. We also know by whose first suggestion Johor Ghani bin Othman will be contesting Kit in Gelang Patah. So one can fairly surmise who has major say in running this election from BN’s side. It doesn’t appear to be the caretaker. Fittingly the saying that this GE will centre on race as Malaysia has become more racist than ever. Don’t know about the part about whether Malaysia has become more racist. There are sure some who hope (for their own interests) that the majority of country are or that race politics is better formula and legacy and that politicians who play the race card appear to be the more successful. We’ll see if GE 13 will prove them right or wrong. The GE is precisely that – the continuance/perpetuation of that legacy emphasizing race or change for better governance.

  5. AhCheatKor said:
    Forget what he insulted Indians n Hindu Gods, now got Indians kissing his @rse;
    Forget what Perkosa insulted Indians n Chinese, now got Indians n Chinese kissing I Bra Him’s @rse;

    2 cheat voters 4 their votes, AhCheatKor twisted n bluffed, trying 2 transform ugly racist actions in2 sweet things
    Only brain dead n walking dead Chinese n Indians could b easily fooled by him n MMK

  6. So quick Indians or other races forgot the Dragging of the Indian Cow incident……Which Perkakas UMNO was doing that??

    make sure not a single dot on the Dacing area in the ballot sheet on voting day. Even if you vote DAP, PAS, PKR that vote is INVALID. Use your strongest voice and DEMAND a clear piece of paper WITHOUT a mark near the Dacing area. Make it known to Observer there so that that seat can be considered Null & Void if ALL have the same dot on the on the Ballot paper near the Dacing logo/box area!!

  7. You want to know the real sad thing is, the MOU that they signed NEVER HAD A CHANCE. Najib is NOT going to be PM after this GE, the next PM, Muhiyiddin or anyone else will make sense for them to give excuses and blame it on Waytha and S. Ganesan

  8. Make sure voters UNDERSTAND dat if U LIKE 2 vote FOR DAP/PKR/PAS (there is NO such thing as PR on d ballot paper), U put an X (not a tick) against DAP/PKR/PAS
    Certainly NOT an X against BN if U DON’T like UmnoB/MCA/Gerakan/MIC/BN n want 2 kick them out

  9. Dis is d TRUE color of racist AhCheatKor, praising racist Perkosa ZN as a CHAMPION of Indians after ZN has consistently insulted n sodomised all Indians, Hindus n their Gods
    OMG, SICK, man! N Hindraf gang n MIC just smilingly accepted dis greatest big fat insult – their ancestors must b turning in their graves, urns, n d Ganges River

    Just like himself claiming 2 b a CHAMPION of Chinese after he had raised his keris n yelled 4 d bloood of Chinese (setting d standard 4 his racist cousin 2 follow suit), blardi racist liar thinking dat M’sians mudah lupa

  10. How could UMNO allow such an out and out racist to contest under BN? He might have apologized but that was because he needed the non-Malay votes to secure a win. So the apology was rather insincere. I believe over 90% of the non-Malays would not vote for him. Many Malays also could not tolerate such kind of racial bigotry. I think Khalid should win with a thumping majority.
