MANILA (Feb 18, 2013): Followers of a Philippine sultan who crossed to Sabah this month will not leave and are reclaiming the area as their ancestral territory amid a tense standoff, the sultan said.
Sultan Jamalul Kiram said his followers – some 400 people including 20 gunmen – were resolute in staying despite being cornered by security forces, with the Malaysian government insisting the group return to the Philippines.
“Why should we leave our own home? In fact, they (the Malaysians) are paying rent (to us),” he told reporters in Manila.
“Our followers will stay in (the Sabah town of) Lahad Datu. Nobody will be sent to the Philippines. Sabah is our home,” he said.
The sultan did not directly threaten violence but said, “there will be no turning back for us”.
Malaysian officials have said many of the group have weapons, but Kiram insisted his followers made the trip unarmed.
The sultanate’s spokesman, Abraham Idjirani, later said the sultan’s brother Raja Muda Abimuddin Kiram, who led the group to Sabah, had told him via telephone that the party was preparing to stay.
“The objective is to reside now in that place permanently, considering the sultanate owns Sabah by rights of sovereignty,” he said.
Idjirani said there were about 400 followers of the sultanate in the area, including about 20 who were armed.
He said the group would not instigate violence but would resist if provoked.
“We recognise the capability of Malaysia. We don’t have the arms and capacity but we have the historical truth,” he said, adding that the group’s “fate is to see the recognition they are entitled to … or they die defending their ancestral rights”.
Idjirani said President Benigno Aquino’s senior aides had been in contact with the sultan and were willing to deliver a letter to the Malaysian government on his behalf for negotiations. –AFP
“Sabah is our home”, they claimed. Small problem. Only 400 of them. Just bang the hell out of them.
But lets us hope that the hundreds of thousands of filipinos in sabah (whom monsterO’mamak baked into bumiputras) do not rise up in support of the 400.
These people argue that the transfer of Sabah by Great Britain to Malaysia in 1963 constituted a breach of the provisions of the 1878 Lease from the Sultan to the British North Borneo company from which Britain acquired Sabah. They say the operative words in the Lease was ‘pajak’ – ie to lease and not to cede or sell or transfer in perpetuity and therefore the company had acquired no ownership rights with which to pass to Britain for Britain to, in turn, without the Sultan’s consent, transfer control/sovereignty of Sabah to newly formed Malaysia. By international law whatever the hazy historical instruments or contentions in conflict, the principle of self-determination is overarching (International Court of Justice’s decision) and it has been Malaysian govt’s position that the people of Sabah had expressed their preference to join the larger Malaysian Federation, through a free referendum in 1962 that was supervised by a United Nations fact-finding mission. That culminated in the Malaysia Agreement of 1963 between Britain Malaya Sabah Sarawak and Singapore. So far so good except that these people also say “In fact, they (the Malaysians) are paying rent (to us),” he told reporters in Manila.” Now has the Malaysian govt disputed this payment of rent? If not can it be explained why if we have sovereignty over Sabah we are still paying rent to these people, an act inconsistent with the denial that they have a legal basis to their claim that Sabah belonged to Sultan of Sulu and presumably still currently leased to us?
Of cos they will stay n wait 4 their BLUE ICs n 2 vote 4 UmnoB/BN
They are encouraged by their brethrens who went 2 Sabah earlier and were transformed 2 M’sian citizens, courtesy of MMK/UmnoB/BN
This Sultan shoud just bring in more of his people from Philipine, approach Mamakthir for MYcards, out vote the Sabahan, then take back SAbah, selesai !!
Perhaps, this is good opportunity for BN suckers to bribe them to vote BN…
Where are Bolehland navies? Are they swinging with hookers or sodomy with bunch of dolphins???
Good in stealing Island from China in South China Sea; but crappy in protecting and defending land masses in Sabah state that led those illegal intruders with arms landing and staying in Sabah!!!
Oh, good on you, BN government!!!
“Our followers will stay in (the Sabah town of) Lahad Datu. Nobody will be sent to the Philippines. Sabah is our home,” he said. – End of quote
Right!
Absolutely right!!
It is, at least to the hundreds thousands of them who had been given citizenship by the traitors in UMNO/BN!!!
With so many of them present in that state, it wouldn’t be too difficult for them to take over!!!
The traitors who grant them citizenship must be made to pay for it!!!!
“Sabah is our Home’.
It is possible that there might be another few million of these people who will claim this right to live in Sabah, their ‘ancestral home’ ? They might wish to come over as well from the Philippines. They will all demand blue ICs. Also, can these people just hop on a boat and come over?
Another point is that there are really a few claimants to the Sulu Sultanate, all of them claiming to be the rightful sultan. Who do you deal with?
We should also now look at the Agreement between the British East India Company and its successors with the Sultan of Kedah a couple of hundred years ago vis-a-vis the island of Penang and Province Wellesley (Seberang Perai). Penang is still paying rent to Queda aren’t they? Look into it LGE.
And Siam (Thailand) might claim our northern states? Who were the Brits to sign that treaty with them in 1908?
Najib might have conspired with the Sulu Sultan to create havoc in Sabah to put Mahathir in tatters. Focus will now be switched to Sabah illegals which may turn into a Trojan horse. Sabah’s future is now unpredictable. Rosmah’s bomoh now have an upper hand over Mahathir’s taoists’ assistance.
Smell of rotten fish , spewed by MMKutty or Ah-C-4. Both are TRAITORS , being in cahoot with Sulu all this while and is payback time from the ‘Sultan’ to them to give an assist hand with G13 in view.
Nick Xen. –one man no gun = threat to national security!
Lahad Datu,– 100 men with guns= not threat to national security so let them stay as long as they want??
Malaysia BN govt logic?? Eh??
If like this, don’t be surprise one day, more from our neighbours may do similar things, send 100 men with guns, repeat 10 times, 20 times! then HOW??
