BFM interview Koon Yew Yin

Follow Koon Yew Ying’s BFM interview. Koon said: “There are hundreds of big buildings and structures, can you tell me which buildings or structures are won by Bumiputera contractors through open tender? There are hundreds of K. meter of highway, can you point out the stretch of highway awarded through competitive tender?

“Record shows that it is easy to produce doctors, surgeons, lawyers, engineers and other professionals but it is very difficult to produce competent contractors or entrepreneurs.

“Bumiputeras must be willing to start from the bottom and learn the business. Tan Seri Yeoh Tiong Lay started as a small time contractor. Tan Seri Lim Goh Tong started as a scrap iron dealer in Sungei Besi.

“I, Koon Yew Yin and 3 other small time contractors started with Rm 200,000 capital in 1966. As a result, I was one of the founders of IJM Corporation Bhd.

“I am completely retired from business and I hope you are not offended by what I have expressed here. I trust we will elect politicians who will not simply give out large contracts or concessions without open tenders.”

  1. ‘If the doctor has been giving you wrong medicine, and you don’t get well, there is something wrong with the doctor.
There is something more seriously wrong with the patient who goes back to the same doctor.”….Tunku Razaleigh
Mr.Koon Yew Yin said he will vote for change in 13th GE.
He is fed up with massive corruptions.
Nothing more to add….just quote and feel happy.

  2. Some dunggu and irrational politician might scream out: Basket. It is our god-given birth right to be given everything on a platinum platter in our own homeland. We have been very patient tolerating you all all these 55 years and more. Why are you jealous of us? We must have these handicaps forever. If you don’t like it here, you know where you can go. Basket. Basket. And more Basket. Snort. Snort. Snort. You want some white packets?

  3. See Hoy Chan was selling duck eggs along a certain fivefoot way in downtown kl. Lee ka shing was a small time manufacturer of plastic flowers and stuff.

Then again ling liong sik’s son started with a bang and several listed companies. And most umnoputras started pretty much the same way.

  4. While other governments are busy preparing their citizens to compete in a globalized world, our government is bucking the trend – simply give out large contracts or concessions without open tenders. How can the country ever become competitive if the government does not prepare its people to learn to compete?

  5. All real and metaphorical golfers with handicaps should strive to remove and improve their handicaps so that they will not need these handicaps for life but for only a short interim period.

I and I am sure many of you are tired, very tired of this handicap analogy especially when the handicapped persons do not do anything to get rid of their real or imagined handicaps.

Many blind and other handicapped persons have improved themselves through the acquisition of many skills and they are today very capable and independent people contributing positively to society.

So enough already. These fully able and bodied persons should stop being cry babies, build up your backbones and be jantan men and women. Don’t confirm what the previous colonials labelled you. Don’t let your community and heritage down.

Sometimes harsh words and deeds are necessary to shock the people back to shape and reality.

Well done and spoken Tun Ismail and Koon Yew Yin.

  6. We all know that contracts are awarded to retired general directors from the civil service depts. It is a crafty way to keep them & acting directors as UMNO “yes” men.
Similarly big money continue to flow to all past cabinet ministers assuming chairmanship or non executive directorship roles in GLCs so that they & current cabinet ministers will toe the UMNO line come what may. All thses malpractices should STOP!!!!!
This is a powerful reason why we need a change of federal government so that we can have the most competent people to do ours contracts & most capable people to run our GLCs.

  7. When a tree sapling is small, all it takes is a hard stamp by foot to kill it.

But when it grows to a big mature tree, it would be a lot harder to saw it down.

Same goes for a river, when it’s a small stream, you can divert the flow using a small simple dam of earth and rocks.

But when it grows to a raging river, you’ll need to build a huge concrete dam just to do the same.

No offense to Mr Koon Yew Yin and to many other respectable elders.

But I can’t help feeling that the predicament that our generation is in right now are nothing but problems inherited from my elders.

Problems that they can nib in the bud but didn’t.
Opportunities that things can be made right but missed.
Words that should be said but unspoken.
Actions that should be taken instead of inactions.

So many things that they can and should have done right thus sparing us the younger generations of all these pains.

And when you are old and nearing the end of your life, you found courage to speak up and take actions that should have been taken a long time ago ?

Sorry, I just can’t say you are all brave men.
    Smart yes, brave no.

Real courage is when you take action while you have everything to lose!

That is why my dear Lim Kit Siang, Karpal Singh, Lim Guan Eng and many others that took the brave step of righting the wrongs from the very beginning.
When they have little to gain but all to lose.

    They have my utmost respect.
