The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak is doing the greatest disservice to national unity and 55-year Malaysian nation-building by insisting that the Barisan Nasional 13th General Election campaign theme of “Janji Ditepati” (Promises Fulfilled) is adopted as this year’s theme for National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
National Day and Malaysia Day should be national occasions where Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, region, class, gender, age and most important of all, political beliefs and affiliations, can come together as Malaysians first and last to celebrate the attainment of Merdeka on August 31, 1957 and the formation of Malaysia on Sept. 16, 1963.
However, when the National Day and Malaysia Day theme this year is the blatant and partisan Barisan Nasional 13GE campaign theme of “Janji Ditepati”, whose dissemination had been spearheaded by the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in a highly politicized tour dubbed “Jelajah Janji Ditepati” all over the country in the past few months, the Barisan Nasional government is deliberately provoking instead of avoiding a national division among Malaysians based on their political beliefs and affiliations on these two national occasions.
The question that must be asked is – Who is being petty-minded and even being anti-national?
Is the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, as well as the Barisan Nasional component parties so desperate about getting electoral support in the next general election that they cannot afford to allow National Day and Malaysia Day to be celebrated by all Malaysians without bringing in party politics or partisan political differences?
In fact, if Najib and the Cabinet are serious about the 1Malaysia policy to create “a nation where every Malaysian perceives himself or herself as Malaysian first, and by race, religion, geographical region or socio-economic background second and where the principles of 1Malaysia are woven into the economic, political and social fabric of society” (1Malaysia Government Transformation Programme – The Roadmap), they would have ensured that at least on National Day and Malaysia Day all forms of political party slogans would have been put aside to allow all Malaysians to celebrate these two national occasions as Malaysians, regardless of whether they are Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Rakyat.
Pakatan Rakyat component parties are prepared to put aside all its slogans on National Day and Malaysia Day, but clearly UMNO and Barisan Nasional are not prepared to make such an important national gesture.
I do not know whether Muhyiddin, who have declared that he is “Malay first, Malaysian second” would have agreed that at least on these two days of National Day and Malaysia Day all be Malaysians first, but it is most inexcusable, unforgivable and anti-national when Barisan Nasional leaders failed to rise to the national occasion by insisting that UMNO/BN campaign theme of “Janji Ditepati” becomes the National Day and Malaysia Day theme despite causing division, discord and disunity among Malaysians.
This is a classic example where those-in-power are unable to see the important distinction between the nation and parties-in-power or among the government, political parties and private personal interests.
It is the failure to make the important distinction between the nation and the parties-in-power , or among the government, political parties and personal interests that is the real cause of the overwhelming misgovernance in the country, whether gross abuses of power, massive corruption or rampant cronyism.
The “Janji Ditepati” theme for this year’s National Day and Malaysia Day stands as a powerful reminder to Malaysians why there must be change in Malaysia particularly in the 13GE – where the important distinction between the nation and the political parties in power, and among the government, political parties and personal interests are scrupulously observed and upheld if Malaysia is to start a new chapter of national life where promises of the government to serve the people and nation are to be truly fulfilled.
From now to Malaysia Day on Sept. 16, let the “Janji Ditepati” slogan all over the country be a constant reminder to all Malaysians that they must stand united to demand for change in the 13th general election if they want the promises of democracy, justice, progress, clean and honest governance in Malaysia to be fulfilled!
We cannot control what he does, when he is still in power. BUT, if we can get a clean free and fair election, he will be history. We must try our best to ensure a clean, free and fair election, as clean, as free and as fair as we can manage.
I am confident that it will be tough, but we will make it. They had 4 years to mess them selves up. we do not easily forget the BTN abuses, the keling kui abuses, the teacher who called our parents prostitutes, all the corruption that run to billions, the cowgates, the Bakun corruption and rape of the Sarawak jungles, The repeated bailouts of cronies, the “King of Sarawak” and his rape of the Sarawak Jungles, The PKZ scandal, the Teoh Beng Hock injustice. A young man died for RM 3K and their billions of corruption gets away scot free. They blamed Christians of trying to take over the country. They raid churches under false pretenses. The Bersih 3.0 UMNO / samseng brutalities. They locked up in the Merdeka square area and then brutalise us. We will not forget, the backside dance outside Ambiga’s house. They chose Ambiga and left Samad untouched. They fried beef burgers outside Ambiga;s knowing that she is a vegetarian. It will take more than one Merdeka slogan to make us forget. They tell us that it is OK to spin and tell lies. Shall I go on? No No No. we will not forget.
We need to change the tenant at Putrajaya. GE 13 is coming soon, ?Sept.. If there are no significant electoral reforms, first to Bersih 4.0, then to GE 13, then to Putrajaya.
Change we must. Change we can. Change we will.
Friends do not forget.
Remember all these and more, when GE 13 comes.
After 55 years of these nonsense, It is time for change
Our current economic paradigm is one in which the continuous acquisition of monetary wealth and material resources is both demanded and valued. In many of the wealthier nations economic growth has come at great cost to indigenous populations who were invaded and usurped, and to other nations who suffered the looting of their resources as they were colonized. In some cases populations suffered by literally being enslaved for the sake of generating further wealth for the already powerful owners of capital.
BR1M, TR1M, 1M4U and fighting corruption ideals has been failed in convincing the rakyat because the real target still free away from their wrongful act.
Najib is abusing government machineries to promote his party.
Just wear black armbands during National Day. Yellow scares them, so don’t wear any yellow.
It feels like GE is already here for sure with all the usual abuses. I still remember a GE several years ago, Indonesian workers ask me how come the govt here can use govt assets for party campaigning. My reply to them was that their children had a better chance of being PM than my children i.e., in reality we are one screwed-up country.
The abuse of govt assets really does feel that GE is here. Either Najib is under pressure to go for it or it will happen soon. After expanding so much ammunition, Najib don’t go for GE, he won’t survive without a remarkable result which is impossible..
Well, well, well.
Yes, they have kept their promises.
In fact, they have done so all these decades starting with a certain doctor.
And each and every one of them has delivered their corruption, cheating, lying, scamming and scandals – non stop during their term.
For Malaysians who are familiar with their modus operandi, they always promise clean and efficient government.
And each and everyone of them have delivered unclean and inefficient ones.
So, what’s so surprising when they said that they have delivered their promises?
They have delivered corruption, cheating, lying, scamming and scandals.
Delivered in both words and spirit.
Najip/UMNO, you give a meagre RM100 in 50 years, but you take billions for yourself. Janji ditepati? My foot! Stop your lies!!
You have to look at what Rais said on page 4 of The Star 17th July. He said all should put aside “political differences temporarily” to celebrate Merdeka Day. This include states controlled by P:akatan Rakyat. However the theme – 55 Tahun Merdeka Janji Ditepati- is politically partisan. It says 55 years of Independence Promises fulfilled (by Barisan Naional). So if PR controlled states do participate it means they agree with BN having fulfilled 55 years of promises; on the other hand if PR controlled states do not participate, PR will be deemed petty and anti national. So it is a dilemma isn’t it – of which course you want to take:which is worse???
Can you boycott – or afford to boycott – national celebrations just because you don’t agree with the National Day theme (defined as it were by the govt. for propaganda benefit of the ruling coalition)? If you participate aren’t you agreeing with them the message that they fulfilled their promises? Can you celebrate National Day in the PR controlled States but repudiate it theme? Does this make sense? How do you counter this challenge?
What Najib keep on telling Malaysians are they can deliver while PR can only talk.
He is telling Malaysians all the goodies and promises, he will deliver as promised.
He is actually telling Malaysians forget corruptions and race issues.
He is appealing to millions of Malaysians that ignore politics but not ignoring the future of their lives and their children’s future too.
These millions Malaysians need not know much about economics at all.
All the need is to use their commonsense.
CHANGE THE GOVERNMENT is what majority want.
And so you can conclude Najib is trying hard to stop the not so smart to vote for change.
That’s all he can do and with the phantoms votes all planned.
Longer delays for 13th GE, means buying more time to avoid investigations on corruptions and murders.
Meanwhile his MACC puppets are working hard to catch CORRUPTED business men..
All the billions stolen by Mahathir and Najib cannot be investigated.
No matter what Najib going to say or do….his reputation is wellknown.
From the day he was Youth Chief breaking his promises to Tunku Razaleigh down to non stop flip flopping, lying and cheating, you can say majority UMNOb supporters do not trust him too…but keep on supporting the party because they are racists.
This racists are slowly changing to be Malaysian first, race second.
To stop that…..lots of events and propaganda worked planned to control their minds and ask all..to enjoy the good news…everyday plenty of good news.
Why vote for change?
“How do you counter this challenge?”
Is there anything to say that we cannot have our own National Day celebrations in a stadium like Shah Alam or Kota Baru ? And we can all show up in yellow and sing Negaru Ku.
We just have to send a petition before Aug 31st to the Agong to say sorry we won’t be at Dataran Merdeka because it has become a BN function, and we are not part of BN, but we do invite the King to show up at Shah Alam stadium.
2013 MERDEKA-THE REAL DEAL
..AND A MOO HERE…
