Police – stand down apparatus of repression, decriminalize Bersih T-shirts so that tens of thousands can be printed

The Yang di Pertuan Agong’s wise and just intervention resulting in agreement for a July 9 Bersih 2.0 rally in a stadium has saved the day for Malaysia, sparing her the infamy and ignominy inside the country and worldwide at the farce of a democratic government treating a peaceful rally for free, fair and clean elections as a grave national threat even greater than one ever posed by terrorists or enemies of the country in the nation’s history.

Equally important, Malaysia is also spared the international embarrassment of her credentials and qualifications as a member of the UN Human Rights Council questioned or even censured by other countries because of a most egregious crackdown on the most basic and fundamental of human rights in Malaysia.

Several steps must be taken immediately to return the country to the course of sanity, good and common sense abandoned by the government in the past ten days.

As a first step, the Police should immediately stand down its apparatus of repression in the past two weeks, when the police abandoned and abdicated its first task to keep the people and country safe from criminals by going on a nation-wide mobilization against imaginary foes in the form of Bersih 2.0 rally on July 9.

All police personnel in the country should be directed immediately to go back to their most important duties of keeping the streets and homes of Malaysians safe and free from crime.

The Police should also immediately decriminalize Bersih and Bersih 2.0 T shirts so that tens of thousands of Bersih T-shirts could be printed in the next three days for those attending the Bersih 2.0 rally in a stadium on Saturday.

Finally, all persons arrested in connection with the Bersih 2.0 rally, including for wearing yellow Bersih 2.0 T-shirts whether outside or as inner garment should be released unconditionally, with all charges withdrawn and dropped – including the ridiculous Emergency Ordinance charges against the Sungai Siput MP Dr. Michael Jayakumar and all the other PSM members.

  1. Thailand has moved far far ahead Malaysia.
They have a woman PM..sister of Taksin and with mixed Chinese blood.
We have yet to achieve a Malaysian Malaysia..and under UMNO B it is totally impossible.

  2. Hold it in 3 different venues, and you can even do a videolink of all three…..stadium bukit jalil, stadium shah alam and kelana jaya stadium. first come first served, those who come late will have to stand or at the very worst, disperse upon the orders of the Police.

Better still, bring KJ into the picture since he offered. He’ll talk of the need for free and fair elections.

  3. The mainstream press will be told not to bother with coverage, but we have Youtube and other alternative media to spread the word, and show the speeches by those who want a better country.

  4. malaysianInsider: ” Najib lets cops decide on Bersih arrests”.

So soon after his press conference, najib found himself tied up in his knickers & he has started ejaculating all kinds of nonsense (REad: Malaysian insider).

Like I said: Bersih & PR must not holler in their so-to-speak victory just yet. najib’s evil mind is working overtime to wipe Bersih off.

I sense it in my bones.

  5. The police will place stupid conditions on Bersih – like no yellow shirts, or rally cannot exceed 5,000 people or only one person be allowed to speak at the rally and that too for 3 minutes.
Opposition leaders will not be allowed to speak.
The rally must disperse within 30 minutes and God knows what else.

  6. The Police should be put on NOTICE. Najib must implement Bersih’s demand or will be insulting the Agung which they must arrest. Otherwise the people reserve the right to take back their government any way possible. THERE WILL NOT BE A BERSIH 3.0, there will be peace OR a REVOLUTION..

  7. D score is BERSIH 2.0 1 : 0 NR/HH/UmnoB/BN

Much thanks 2 NR/HH/UmnoB/BN/Perkosa 4 baring their true racist corrupt color while inadvertently highlighting d good intents of BERSIH 2.0 (even DYMM YdPA said so)

    All d lies n dirty high handed tricks dat NR/HH used r exposed 4 all 2 C
Shame too 2 MCA, Gerakan, MIC, etc – all useless, no priciple, cowards/serfs of UmnoB

Have simultaneous BERSIH 2.0 rallies in various stadia in all states (Kelantan, Keday, Penang, Perak, Selangor, KL, Sarawak, Sabah, etc) on 9.7.11

O, what a glorious morning which has broken

  8. “..The Police should also immediately decriminalize Bersih and Bersih 2.0 T shirts so that tens of thousands of Bersih T-shirts…”

YB (and Bersih organisers) don’t hold your breadth for this to happen. I can already see on prime time news the PM starting to lay the conditions for the rally. It is an ominous sign when he pointedly warn Bersih that they will be responsible for any problems or violence arising. Instead of a conciliatory speech, he is making specific threats already as if he is predicting they will happen. And I believe they will as I would not put it past them to orchestrate some violent incidences to give them the excuse to cast Bersih in a bad light and to score points with the neutral voters. So Bersih beware and be on your guard for troublecausers.

Prime time news showed molotov cocktails displayed prominently alongside Bersih T shirts but conveniently the police claim they have not yet caught the culprits. Either the PDRM are a bunch of incompetent dolts or the whole thing was staged because it stands to reason if you know where to recover these evidence surely you know and able to apprehend the culprits.

  9. A slap in the face for Najis now that our beloved King had acted very wisely in the interest of the rakyat. Now that the Govt. has given permission for Bersih to hold the rally in a stadium which means the legality of Bersih is Intact. Therefore all T-shirts,handouts and any material connected to Bersih have to be returned to the owners. Most important peoples arrested unjustly arbitrary by the stooge police shold be released immediately. Printing of T-shirts can commence without any undue delay. All of us must get up early for this historic event in view of the fact that there will be roadblocks everywhere to hinder and obstruct people for going to the stadium.Do not expect our mainstream press to give fair coverage.TOGETHER WE WILL PREVAIL

  10. Now, after AGONG blessing BERSIH

BERSIH should go full force like full-page advertisement of BERSIH in major newspaper, printing material like flyer/brochure, Yellow t-shirt, etc

Go to promote it in big way NOW asap, dont waste anytime

    GO…GO…BERSIH

  11. Do not trust Najis and be very careful of agents planted to cause confusions unorderly behaviour so as to find Bersih at fault and responsible if there is riot in the stadium. You can also expect roadblocks everywhere to hinder and obstruct the people from going to the stadium causing as much inconveniences like body search etc.All roads leading to KL from other states will be under very very strict police vigilance to prevent discourage the people from gathering at the stadium.BUT WITH GOD BLESSING TOGETHER WE WILL PREVAIL.

  12. I bet you..come 9th July…thousands will wear yellow and walk around the city….smiling to police officers and may even offer flowers to shame IGP and his Deputy.
    Home Minister?
Najib…Hishamuddin..Ali….all have one thing in common. All are trained by Mahathir…who is keeping very quiet…because scheme does not work.
    Wait for his next idea.

  13. What if Najib were to offer the Cheras football stadium or the Kampung Baru stadium to Bersih? Najib can justify that a crowd bigger than 3,000 will be a menace to national security, will cause a big traffic jam, will affect the livelihood of people going on their business. Perkasa and UMNO youth would be jealous and will cause trouble. Also yellow shirts are not allowed, no banners are allowed, loud-speakers should be toned down as it would disturb the prayers of nearby mosques. All participants will have to be registered by the police and thumb-printed. Take it or leave.

Yes, Najib will have the last laugh because Bersih has not asked for a high-level, face-to-face meeting with the regime to seriously trash out electoral fraud. Najib has avoided the main issue and he is okay if Bersih wants to shout all day in the stadium.

Bersih is the loser in this game.

  14. Ng Yen Yen said events of the past few days have scared away tourists. Now is the time for the Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board to invite tourists to the stadium to get first hand knowledge of one of the biggest Malaysian-style “Indoor Protests”. Bersih should take this opportunity to sell yellow shirts, as a “commemorative” item, to tourists this Saturday.
