MCA among the greatest obstacles to realization of 1Malaysia

The headline “Time to stop thinking along racial lines, says Soi Lek” in the MCA owned newspaper, the Star, today must have caused a general shaking-of-heads by its readers, not because of disagreement but at his naivety or downright dishonesty.

There must have been more intensive shaking-of-heads when the MCA President, Datuk Seri Dr. Chua Soi Lek expressed his belief that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s “1 Malaysia concept could be realised by 2020 when affirmative action policies shift towards being merit- and needs-based instead of the current race-centric arrangement”. (The Malaysian Insider)

In actual fact, Malaysians have never been more polarised along racial and religious divisions under Najib’s 1Malaysia concept and MCA is undoubtedly among the greatest obstacles to the realisation of Najib’s 1Malaysia.

Up to now, Najib’s 1Malaysia concept is nothing more than a RM70 million fraud and façade, transformed during by-elections into a “1T-shirt, 1Tupperware, 1Burger, 1Mineral Water Bottle” circus!

Everyday Malaysians are being reminded as to how hollow and meaningless is Najib’s 1Malaysia concept purportedly to unite all Malaysians regardless of race, religion, geography or socio-economic status.

The latest is the annual scandal of the unfair and unjust allocation of PSD scholarships most frustrating to Malaysia’s best and brightest sons and daughters – which is why no one has confidence that Najib’s Talent Corporation will not end up as “Talents Corpse” as there is just no political will to see through a national transformation to create an united, just, progressive and prosperous Malaysia.

Where were the MCA, Gerakan, Umno and other BN Ministers when I challenged them in Parliament in March last year to declare that they truly support the 1Malaysia concept of being Malaysian first and race second?

Did the MCA leaders dare to protest, object or dissent when Deputy Prime Minister and Umno Deputy President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin declared in response that he is Malay first and Malaysian second?

How can Najib be sincere about 1Malaysia yet allow Umno official organ Utusan Malaysia to launch a counter “1Melayu” slogan and campaign?

How can Malaysians have confidence in the 1Malaysia campaign when Utusan Malaysia is allowed immunity and impunity to sabotage it with the most seditious and treasonous “DAP-Christian Malaysia” bogey appearing on its front-page on May 6?

Why is there still no BN government action after almost a full month against Utusan Malaysia for its irresponsible front-page “DAP-Christian Malaysia” bogey which could have caused strife and bloodshed?

Why did the MCA leadership under its President Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek give their “winks of approval” to the irresponsible Utusan Malaysia to persist with its “DAP-Christian Malaysia” bogey and incitement?

Have any MCA Minister pursued the issue in the past four Cabinet meetins to demand that the most severe action must be taken against Utusan Malaysia to ensure that there would be no repetition of such irresponsible, seditious and treasonous publications?

Since the last general elections in 2008, the Umno leadership had been making overtures to PAS to form a “unity government”.

Did MCA leaders object as MCA had been attacking the DAP for co-operating with PAS in Pakatan Rakyat. Did MCA leaders ask for explanation and apology from Umno, telling Umno that MCA would pull out of Barisan Nasional if Umno continues to act in utter disregard of the existence of MCA in BN?

Did Chua tell Najib that the UMNO offer of “unity government” to PAS is also against the Prime Minister’s 1Malaysia concept – and that if there is to be any talk of “unity government, it should be a proposal by Barisan Nasional to Pakatan Rakyat to form a “national unity government”?

Can Chua answer any of these queries – or there can only be more shaking-of-heads by Malaysians at the increasing irrelevance and impotence of MCA in the Malaysian political landscape.

  1. Dear Kit,
Sabre rattling politics aside, are there enough common grounds between ” Malaysian Malaysia” and “1malaysia” for DAP and MCA to work together to change this present government? If both parties recognise that the present system is corrupt, and dysfunctional, and that we need to built a better Malaysia for all Malaysians, can we explore common grounds? I am just thinking a loud. Please don’t lynch me.

We need to change the tenant at Putrajaya.

  2. MCA have long being impotent.Whatever they talked is just pure hypocrisy, especially coming from morally bankrupt CSL. CSL even supported Utusan by saying that there could be some truth in Christian nation. As the political landscape changes, MCA is interested in votes, avoid getting thrashed in the next election and stay relevant at all cost with zero sincerity and effort. Scare tactics and fear mongering are their only way to win over the voters. They are simply cowering bunch of eunuchs when BN/UMNO/Utusan/Perkasa made racist statements.
Between MCA and PAS, give me PAS anytime.

  3. What is even worst is that when BN gets kicked out of office, he will say ‘see – I told you so’. This are all talk of cynical CYA leaders, making excuses and avoiding blame is what they do

  4. First of all MCA like UMNO is a communal party, and a communal party by definition fight for its community rights along lines of race. If CSL thinks that it is time to stop thinking along racial lines, he should do first to disband and dissolve his commun al party MCA.

Secondly when CSL “expressed his belief that PM’s 1 Malaysia concept could be realised by 2020 when affirmative action policies shift towards being merit- and needs-based instead of the current race-centric arrangement”, what is the basis of this optimism when the PM has backpedalled and reaffirmed the race specific NEP in the last Bumi Economic Congress, and consistently thereafter not refuted any Ketuanan assertion by Malay groups?

Thirdly where are we going to look for CSL in 2020 to account for what he now confidently said in 2011, if affirmative action policies have not by then shifted to merit- and needs-based policies???

Talk only is easy. It does not require capital!

  5. That CSL must really a good story teller at recent launching ceremony infront of prominent chinese tycoons! (In chinese newspaper)
He said that chinese and other race can’t accept that many PSD or government posts majority given to malay but instead malay can’t tolerate the fact that chinese private enterprises or companies do not employ more malaya. So difficult but need more times to realise 1Malaysia with such racial look not sooner than 2020!
Surprise of this misleading story telling to the future generation. He thought he is so wise that no one will understand what is different between Public services compare to that private enterprise or company!
I think he is twisting the facts and try to confuse malaysian for a GLC,public servicing is no different to profit-making private company that was not paid in capital but by tax-payers money.
What a real misleading joker as a leader forseeing our future by mixing up the two?

  6. As long as for future in any services it should be like what one said:”careless whether black or white cat as long as it can catch mouse is a real good cat!”
So if it is a bad cat not guarding the house (even in government services) just kick them out and finish. Likewise should be chosen with merit for any malaysian and stop those mindset of holding on to ‘Tongkat’ tradition or preceding so-called policy in past! Someone really must call for a debate with this CSL!

  7. CSL might turn out to be the MCA man to break the Alliance model. The Chinese would answer to the wishes by voting MCA out of government. When there is no MCA man elected, Gerakan can’t even offer them a party to be in the Barisan. So MCA will be out of government according to the wishes of Chinese voters. UMNO voters would want MCA candidate elected, but their votes cannot carry the day.
