KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 – Several Islamic leaders have questioned the loyalty of non-Muslims in the country, declaring today the community’s rights must be re-evaluated if Malaysia is to call itself an Islamic state.

Former president of Islamic Da’wah Foundation Malaysia (Yadim), Datuk Nakhaie Ahmad, said treatment of non-Muslims must be based on the social contract agreed and pointed out that the government has been too gracious to the community.

“In attempts to get vote and support of non-Muslims, we have been very gracious in giving them their civil rights. Civil rights given to them includes the rights to vote, participation in politics, hold office, involvement in the military and so forth but we cannot just willingly give them everything.

“Our offer must be based on religious practices. If we look at the prophet’s agreement in the Madinah constitution, civil rights were given to the Jews but the rights must be paid back with responsibility. They must have the responsibility and agree to defend our country and not insult the agreement,” he said during a forum here.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad declared Malaysia an Islamic state a decade ago in a move to counter PAS’s growing influence among the country’s key Malay Muslim population.

The issue cropped up this month when several groups asked for amendments to the Federal Constitution to stipulate only Muslims can be the prime minister after Utusan Malaysia carried an unsubstantiated report of a Christian plot to usurp Islam’s position as religion of the federation.

Nakhaie stressed that non-Muslims that have broken the social contract must be expelled from the country and asked the government to adopt a tough approach in safeguarding Muslim interest.

“If the agreement is broken then actions must be taken against them. If they break our agreement then they are our enemy and must be expelled from the country. We must not compromise with them. We must be stern with them when it comes to the social contract agreed,” he said.

Nakhaie added it is important that high level government positions not be awarded to non-Muslims for national security.

“We cannot give them important government position as it is not allowed for non-Muslims to become ministers in a Islamic state. Head of military must also not be given to non-Muslims.

“Without thinking about the future of our country, we are so willing to give them everything. Granting them their civil rights must be balanced with Islamic preaching so they will understand justice in Islam and the Islamic system,” said the former PAS member who defected to Umno years ago.

He also warned Muslims to unite as non-Muslims will become stronger if the community continues to quarrel among themselves.

“They are brave now and are willing to say anything because they are becoming dominant. They (non-muslim political parties) are only working with us to only achieve their goals. It is a marriage of convenience. We know what is their programme. We are already losing economically and now we want to give political rights?” he asked.

Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia’s (ISMA) deputy president Zamri Hashim added that Muslims must look beyond political affiliation for a common greater cause.

“We must think outside of politics. The Malay agenda is too important to ignore and a majority of Malays are Muslims. This is no longer about PAS and Umno,” said the Perak deputy Mufti.

Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (Abim) deputy president, Dr Mohd Rumaizuddin Ghazali, also stressed that Malaysia must never become a secular state.

“This is why many non-Muslim politicians want to declare the country as a secular state because then the government will not have fund religious programmes.

“They are scared that if we accept Malaysia as an Islamic state then there are many implications which means that only Muslims have the right to lead the country,” he said.

Mohd Rumaizuddin added that the Malays are beginning to be trampled on and non-Muslims are starting to take advantage of the community.

“Because of politics, we are still not free after more than 50 years of independence,” he said.

Hizbut Tahrir Malaysia president Abdul Hakim Othman added the country’s constitution must be replaced as it has been stained by the colonial British.

“A Caliphate state is based on divine revelation. It is not a democratic or a theocratic state. It is only an Islamic state when the constitution is based on the Quran and prophetic traditions,” he said.

  1. It’s very undemocratic, uncivilized and unbecoming way of our government to publicly said so-abovementioned.Do they think we’re that stupid/gulllible Umno.Enough from you!

  3. Are this Former president of Islamic Da’wah Foundation, Datuk Nakhaie Ahmad talked like a human or animal label human as many different species.

God created all his children equal.

Some human label with sudden rules that are more closer to called god children

Don’t know whether they like blind human try to figure these and that like those blind touching the elephant

One touch the legs said it like a tree

One touch the nose said it like snake

One touch the ear said it like banana leave

One try to outshine each other when all of them not really right

HUMAN only be more united when there Alien invading the EARTH

else they are so free fight each them like a GOD stupid children

Some even come out an ideal with GOD name to clean these and there

The GOD are mighty GOD if he really want to clean these and there he dont need any human to do there,

He can just clean it in 24 hours all over the earth….

  4. The worst of all some carried the LABEL dont practice any of the LABEL rules at all but just a prententer LIAR pretended as the LABEL

Some without the LABEL are even more closer the GOD rules…..

GOD have not given anyone in the planet limited GOD in their rules only

Proof it if it is wrong

  5. why don’t those umno Islamic scholars question their own loyalty? seems like all of them are loyal to money, corruption and titles. just like the Pharisees and Sadducees.

and to top them, all European, Africans, American countries should do the same things these donkeys are preachings.

  6. As unabashedly stated these people want to change the present Constitution. They are products of Dr Mahathir’s policies. Once on a tiger’s back, it is hard to alight. I am not
surprised many of these are embedded not only in bureaucracy but even in GLCs – and for all we know within the Opposition Parties. Do we expect any of the proponents and advocates of ‘1 Malaysia’ in government including the leader who struts on the international stage calling for moderate voices to speak up against extremism to squeak a protest against such views? I don’t think so. Well then do we expect our Opposition leader to speak up against? I also don’t think so. Thats why these people are encouraged to now speak up with impunity their views.

  7. It does not matter Mahathir has announced Malaysia is an islamic country.

What matter is the people in UMNO has damaged the image of this islamic country by allowing corruption in this country and in UMNO themselves.

Example: Look at the Penang 2nd bridge project giving to an UMNO company without open tender. In the end commuters would have to pay more.

I believe non muslim do not need and want any cabinet ministers IF the ruling party is able to :
    1. stop corruption in government departments in this country.
    2. catch those corrupted politicans like Taib having billion Ringgit property overseas: http://www.sarawakreport.org
    3. stop illicit money out from this country: report by Global Finance Integrity (http://iff-update.gfip.org/)
    4. Instil harmony among Malaysians (all races).
    5. monitor irresponsible newspaper like Utusan.
6 Equal opportunity of education, employment and trade.

Just like non muslim living in Brunei, are there any non muslim cabinet ministers in Brunei?

Non muslim and muslim I believe like and love:
    1. peace
    2. hormony
    3. prosperity
    4. high income (like in Brunei).
    5. less crime
    6. less corruption
    7. Equal opportunity of education (like in Brunei, Singapore, Australia, etc.)
    8. Equal opportunity of trading and employment (like in Brunei and Singapore).

This is the idea of UMNO, MCA, MIC and Gerakan who think they should have their representative in the cabinet.

Already more than 50 years, this old thought of Barisan Nasioanl is out-dated and not working well.

If the ruling party is liberal, efficient and capable like those, for example, in Austrlaia, Asians and muslim and non muslim in Australia do not need to have any cabinet minister by them.

Are there non muslim cabinet minister in Brunei?

Are there muslim cabinet minister in Australia?

What the heart or thought of each human is an efficient and capable and clean government like those in, for example, Swizerland.

  8. A muslim wrote before at Yahoo blog, how he wish to join other Malaysian at a Chinese temple, at a Christian church by NOT changing his name and his faith/religion.

Yes, I am a non muslim, how wonderful if I could go to talk to other muslim at their mosque about health, food, education, trade opportunity, peace, help, orphanage, etc.

As a non muslim, in my thought, if the present ruling party is able to do the below, I think we do not need to have any non muslim cabinet minister like those in Brunei (correct me if I were wrong!):

    1. peace
    2. hormony
    3. prosperity
    4. high income (like in Brunei).
    5. less crime
    6. less corruption
    7. Equal opportunity of education (like in Brunei, Singapore, Australia, etc.)
    8. Equal opportunity of trading and employment (like in Brunei and Singapore).

Is there a muslim cabinet minister in Australia?KITTY hatorm

  9. Did these so-called Islamic leaders ever comment on CORRUPTION practised by UmnoB n BN kaki, such as tahi Taib
Corruption dat enslaves n impoverishes lots n lots of Muslims n nonMuslims in M’sia

  10. The key to all this mess is INFORMATION. The present government has suppressed information to keep itself in power thru’ all these yrs. Look at the syllabus of our History subject. Need more be said!

PKR & DAP needs to step up to provide the rakyat with that information. Information to change the perspective of our present young generation. Information to counter this racial brain wash technic applied by BN since Mahathir’s time. An alternative hope is that when these old racial farts died in another 20 yrs time, a new generation of leaders: one that cares for the rakyat more than power or money will rise up and fill that gap. As i look all round me, I can already see these young shoots springing up. A generation that disregard the racial boundary. They are my Hope for a united Malaysia.

PKR & DAP, if u truely believe for what u guys are fighting for, as all of us here believe, then pour in the finances to educate our children, be that source even form personal income. Don’t just do last minute campaigning. Do it all yr round. If there can’t be a political tsunami, then let there at least be a gentle wave that slowly erode the filth of racial politics on our shores.
