  1. Kit, note down the date on which the bibles were allowed to be released, and use this event as reference should the government seize any imported bibles in the future. If the government allows the confiscated bibles to be released this time, there is no reason for her not to release any imported bibles in BM next time because the rule of law has to be consistent.

  2. Go collect the Bibles first thing in the morning before they change their minds again as is quite usual of them.

I will bet you the ‘Little Napoleons’ will delay releasing the Bibles giving all sorts of excuses.

Maybe Perkasa will object saying they were not consulted. ABIM as well will echo it. And who knows who else!!. Mahathir? And then there will be a U-turn again.

    1Malaysia is full of surprises.

Now that permission is given, the Christians can now start to import more bibles as there is a shortage. So do it.

Test that this is not a once-off ‘special case’ but is a permanent and official final policy. No more hindrances. No more ambiguities.

The decision – it is constitutionally all right to import Bahasa Bibles.

  3. “This is a reasonable compromise in managing the polarities of views between Christians and Muslims in the country,” said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala in a statement this evening.”

“Jala, who is a Sarawakian Christian, said that the government had decided on the release of the Alkitab in line with a 1982 gazette under the Internal Security Act which allows its limited and controlled importation and circulation on condition that the books are stamped: “For Christians Only.””

See the relevant words? They are:

“compromise”, “allow limited and controlled importation and circulation”, “condition”, “stamped” etc.

Its not quite that free after all but have a lot of conditions attached.

Why do the Christians have to go through all these humiliation and obstacles, I just wonder.

  4. The Cabinet if met on the issue had either to overturn the 1986 decision, or gree to it. Najib is in dilemma. So it is easier to release the bible and taking it as a case by case basis.

    Ball-less PM.

  5. Somebody just e-mailed me to ask what is the meaning of “For Christians Only”.

Does it mean that other non-Muslims like Buddhists, Hindus, Pagans, Free thinkers, Atheists, Babas, Nyonyas, Sikhs in fact just about any one who might want to read the Bible, for whatever reasons, cannot do so as it is “For Christians Only”?

I am told in the 1950s, 60s, 70s, many non-Christians enrolled for and sat for Religious Studies (i.e. Bible Knowledge) in the SC / MCE / O levels examinations.

  6. That is the beauty of having government officers with different religious backgrounds. Whether you like it or not, who is the majority if it is not the Malays and Islam ? Same for elections. The majority wins. But the minority counts too. Because not everyone supports you. So you should ask yourselves why is not everyone supporting you even though you win ? What is oppression and suppression for you is actually protection for you. For Christians only so that if the Muslims happen to read the Bible and they want to sue you, they cannot because the book says it is for Christians only and you should add read with caution. For your information, not every Muslim is like that. Some have pure hearts and have no evil intention. But it is not credible because they will have to follow the majority extremist views. Christians in Malaysia should make their requests of non interference from not just the Prime Minister but also God. It is better to compromise rather than not even trying to do something. Just like when you have to compromise with PAS and with PR.

It is equivalent to non-halal. Muslims being in the special position need protection, materially and mentally.

  8. As far as I know, no Christian pastor or priest has slavishly said ‘Thank You’ to the government.
I hope they will not do so because the government had no bloody reason to impound the Bible in the first place. It is illegal.
Why thank BN for an illegality?

But the question is, when will the Bibles be released to the Churches?????
A government ban and announcement of the release is 100% political.
I am afraid the Bibles may not be release the Bibles as yet. The Home Ministry may continue to hold it on some flimsy ‘administrative’ reasons until the Sarawak elections is over.
Then the Bible will remain with the ministry till the next GE.
The government is playing monkey with the Christians.
Christians, don’t be fooled again and again by this government. Vote against BN or be damned.

  9. With the release of the bibles, plus the macc “raid” on the tourism ministry, the 13 GE is going to be held very soon. I believe there is a good way to prevent the unscruplous crossing-over of PR elected reps to bn.

All PR contestants must submit to their party presidents certified copies of all details of their properties and bank accounts, including those uner the names of their family members, duely witnessed and attested by lawyers.

All PR contestants must agree under oath (witnesed and attested again by lawyers) that the party presidents are given express condition to send those certified copies to the macc and also upload those details in the opposition websites.

Therefore the public can have proof should any of the reps who had crossed over suddenly change their lifestyles for the better, such as the mp of padang serai having RM1.4 million within 3 months of leaving pkr.

  10. A big fat lady fr d PM Dept stood in front of whoever who confiscated d bibles n rocked her upper torso violently mah – d bouncing n gyrating twin peaks convinced d whoever in carj 2 release d bibles lor, easy saja, no need cabinet decision 1, here apa apa pun boleh

  11. If the govt now ordered the release of 35,000 Malay language bibles (Alkitab), it should in principle equally withdraw the appeal against High Court (Justice Lau Bee Lan)’s 2009 decision favouring the Herald’s use of the word “Allah” in its publication.
Contrary to what Father Lawrence Andrew (Herald’s editor) said that the two issues are distinctly separable, it is really not.

They are both inextricably linked to 1986 Cabinet decision and the law then passed and gazetted, to ban the word “Allah” in Christian religious literature.

That decision/law is ostensibly justified on the constitutional ground (Article 11(4) ) prohibiting “propagation of any religious doctrine or belief among persons professing the religion of Islam” – of which the underlying argument assumes that if the Alkitab uses the same description of the Almighty as Muslims the latter could be so influenced to be converted!

Whether that argument is tenable or flawed is not the focus here.

The focus is that the govt appears to flip flop because its decision proceeds (as always) on political expedience than principle.

For eg according to Idris Jala the government could now release the Alkitab based on a 1982 gazette under the ISA which allows limited and controlled importation and circulation on the condition that the books are stamped “For Christians Only ”.

One wonders how an earlier gazette (1982) could override a later 1986 gazette.

It may be or political expedience (S’wak elections) that the govt now ordered the release of 35,000 Malay language bibles (Alkitab).

What happens after the elections? Next round may see a different official response – that the 1986 law overrides the 1982 gazette!

  12. Do you expect a lair to tell the truth ? …definitely no way, instead he will lies more and more.
BTW Mahatir is neither a supreme malay leader nor a Righteous muslim convert….So pls Dont waste our precious time reading this Irresponsible Ex PM idiotic spinning story…absolutely no morale lesson to gain BUT pure lies afte all ,the consequences of it further destroy Malaysia FDI ,GDP,creates more economic futures uncetainties and disparities with this unthinkable memior garbarges toxic…
What Mahatir deserves for 22yrs ruling malusia???
No Honor and dignity from all malaysians includes this entire globalised communities .
He display a character of shames among the malusia malay majority ,no wonder evading taxes, steal corruption $$$$$$$$$$$$$billions, display dishonesty and hatredness of others except for his own race.

  13. YB Kit, you asked “what is d lesson of the saga?”

Simple. These [deleted] are just liars and twist and turn to suit their own political agendas. The same excuse is used with the two racist school principals where the DPM cum Education Minister says he has no authority to take action against them. Ditto the Home Minister over the cow head incident. These UMNO “leaders” would avoid decisions that they are afraid would antagonise the more extreme elements of their supporters and practise an “ostrich with the head in the sand” attitude and lie, cheat or pretend nothing is wrong even though the right thing to do is so simple. All they have to do is just condemn the actions of the Little Napoleons and decisively putting it right would not only rid themselves of this problem but also send a strong message to these Little Napoleons not to ever repeat such stupid racist stunts once and for all. Instead, they took the cowardly way out and kept quiet and give feeble excuses such as waiting for Cabinet decisions, AG’s decisions etc. when caught out.

But the worst specimens are those BN component parties who kept quiet and went along with such blatant abuse of the rights of the non Muslims to practise their own religion as protected by the Constitution. Instead of speaking up against these abuses by the Little Napoleons and doing the nation justice, these lowest of the low lives would cower in a corner and pretend they saw and heard nothing.

And they expect us to vote for them in elections!!

  14. Imagine the Bible is translated into languages all known to man but not in Bahasa Melayu……and got released after thinking hard not to go to the extreme to place racist Muslims and fanatics…before he so call cabinet meeting.

  15. UMNO B is making a mockery over God…with controling minds and souls to the extreme…like wild Malay people are still living in the jungle….and protect them from bring spread with words from devils…to take their souls away.
It is the devils doing that…to make sure all being programmed …stay programmed.
Controlling minds is not the word of God.
UMNO B is playing God over people.

  16. Kerismuddin the Home Minister said that he had to await the AG’s advice whether the release of the Bible would ‘affect’ the appeal by the government on High Court’s ruling that the ban on the use of the term Allah by Christians is unconstitutional.

Kerismuddin was a law graduate from a UK university, which did not use the ‘square root times ten’ formula to favour some protected species, his qualification in law cannot be suspect. Yet how would he link an action taken by the government to having any effect to the decision of the Court of Appeal? So Kerismuddin gave the excuse to fool the public. The fact was Kerismuddin had no control over his staff. Malaysian civil services have grown too big for their political masters.

  17. Islam jenis-umno is the supreme religion of the entire universe. Yup you heard me right. The entire universe. That means islam jenis-umno has extra-planetary applications and effects. Now let that fact sink into your head, people.

  18. Who is God and what is God?
Till modern times, nobody ever knows except to rely mostly on scrolls and scriptures.
How superior or intelligent we human are, we can’t even find a true and specific answer to proof on anything that could made every man agree with each other.
Why would god wanna let human spread his words and why would god wanna make us confuse about his existence?
Why not god do it on his own so that man could no longer tend to create or fabricate all sorts of tales and religions as just to satisfy their desire.
Bibles and all other holy scriptures are hand written mostly by human, who claimed that they’re inspired by god to do so.
Are’nt we dumb enough to “fight” for certain things that human can’t really understand?
God exist inside everyone of us and as long as we’re to analyse and learn in a truthful manner, we already have the answer.
Why not put our race and religion aside for they’re many things that we’ve to plan ahead for the next generation to come.
God provide us with these lovely planet to live on but we tend to destroy by chopping down trees and polluting the environment.
We even tend to come up with all sorts of creation that could endanger the lives of all species on earth and when accident will to happen, we just blame it onto god.
Earthquake and Tsunami in Fukushima are just only the beginning of destruction and in many more months to come, more disasters are bound to happen, if we’re to continue on with our bad habit and selfish ways.
    Beware!!!

  19. Why “for Christians only”? Even Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. need to refer to the scriptures before him to clear His own doubts:
Surah 10:94 “Oleh sebab itu, sekiranya engkau (wahai Muhammad) merasa ragu-ragu tentang apa yang Kami turunkan kepadamu, maka bertanyalah kepada orang-orang yang membaca kitab-kitab yang diturunkan dahulu daripadamu (kerana mereka mengetahui kebenarannya). Sesungguhnya telah datang kepadamu kebenaran dari Tuhanmu, maka jangan sekali-kali engkau menjadi dari golongan yang ragu-ragu.”
