3 minutes enough for all the photos and videos to be taken for front page of newspapers and news on TV. 1Malaysia is only good for 3 minutes.
If he stays longer, all the ulamas will complain.
When he was at Batu Caves for Thaipusam, he stayed well away from the temple.
He dare not stay too close with all gods, because he is a sinner. God curse upon him to the fall of Umno-BN in Sibu.
the ghost of Altantuya had already reported her murderer to the Gods and deities… hmm..maybe this is also one of the reasons.. we cant rule this out too..
AT TUA PEK KONG
He is jai sern yeh blowing $$$ 2 1 n all in Sibu, cannot b with tua pek kong 4 too long mah, nanti tua pek kong gets into his body, mama rosa panic n C4 him, how ah
Najib was advised by Rais it was a “cultural event”.
So he came unawares until he saw the Tua Pek Kong and quickly vamoosed in case people mistake him for a “kong”.
I agree with Sheriff. He came to mark his attendance and his photos will be all over in tomorrow’s NST and Star. I bet it would not appear in Utusan.
This said, it is one big step for a Malay, albeit one small step for the Chinese community. Better one small step than no step. If he had stayed longer, he would be stabbed in the back by his own people.
Having said that, I am still scratching my head wondering why Najib came. Was it because of 1Malaysia or was it because of the Sibu by-election?
Najiv, the Santa as named by the media or better known as the God of Wealth in Chinese.
Unfortunately the Malay Santa was too busy and had too many clients to distribute his angpao. So he could not enter the temple or stay for longer. This is in contradiction to what SUPP politicians had announced beforehand – Santa will join in the procession. Even for such a simple matter, the SUPP cannot deliver the promise. They always talk big and either cannot deliver or will deliver very little.
After the Malay Santa gave the big angpao, we need some watchdogs to see that the money will be used in the right and transparent way. We don’t want them to be wasted or flowing into the crocodile mouths of the cronies of SUPP politicians.
These angpao are not just for helping the Chinese schools, but the ultimate goal should be for helping the LOCAL economy. The projects should be done by the local companies, or a kind of NEP for Sibu in helping the employment. Again, be transparent in awarding the contracts.
Najib is a great leader , reaching to all people
vote for BN, vote for 1Malaysia
“Najib was then ushered back to his car before a temple official could present him with a picture of the temple as a souvenir.” M Insider.
He came, he saw, he panicked and ran away.
What an insult. Teach him a lesson.
Does these 3min show your face stuff work anymore? I don’t know about Sarawak & Sabah, I go to many new villages and the uncle, aunties, ah pek, ah po, all are pretty savvy these days and not impressed by a few minute show by anyone.
Either they are pretty confident and this is just dotting the i’s and t’s. or its a major screw-up. It just tell you, BN people, are pretty much a bunch a A**holes..
Damn, he ran away before I could get close enough to ask him for an empat ekor prediction.
Kneel, thou knaves! Kneel and kowtow before the new great Tua Pek Kong of Sibu!
Psst… will the new Tua Pek Kong also take part in ceremonies in other temples such as in Selangor, Penang ect? No, unless there are by-elections there…
Jibby “gives” RM18 million to Chinese schools in Sibu. But is the money available on condition that he wins there, as was the case with SRJK(C) Rasa in HS? If he lost, will it mean that there is no money forthcoming?
Sibu chinese deserves only 3 minutes of jibby’s time. Then again who needs him anyway. So go back to papa jib. Go to chengho.
Lighting 3 minute visit and being ushered back to the car before a temple official could present him with a picture of the temple as a souvenir shows that ‘1 Ketuanan’ is the Stark Reality that ‘1 Malaysia’ has zero chance of changing.
For under 1 Malaysia, the mantra is just not “tolerating” but wholehearted embracing of cultural diversity. So what’s in an innocuous souvenir of a temple’s picture? However in Malaysia it will be twisted to something else – like how could a muslim leader accept a picture of a temple??? It is symbolism, the issue here. Just like one may ask what’s the big deal about sportingly wearing the sigah, the Kadazan head-dress when officiating a Kadazan ceremony? Thats how Ku Li last minute lost the 1990 Semangat versus BN election when A photograph of him wearing the sigah was distributed 36 hours before polling day and a letter was circulated saying that the symbol on the sigah represented a Christian cross and when he wore that he was a sell-out to Christians. That did the trick…
Much as Najib wanted to charm the Chinese voters who form about 67 per cent of the 54,695 Sibu voters he didn’t want victory there to be at expense of a political debacle for him in Peninsula esp when he is surrounded by what he perceives are many wishing him ill both within and outside his party.
The implied message to Sibu Chinese voters is clear on what is Stark Reality:
1. Being first prime minister to attend a celebration in honour of a Chinese deity is already a strong symbolic commitment to 1 Malaysia. However there’s practical political restraints.
2. Surely 1 Malaysia cannot, even if it were ever possible, change so easily the well-entrenched politics of Ethnocracy based on Malay supremacy for last ½ century in the country.
3. Ethnocracy here is defined as politics of one single ethnic group completely controlling/dominating virtually all positions or spheres of any significance in judiciary, public administrative organs & Civil service, the police, the armed forces universities, GLCs etc in degree disproportionately excessive to their ratio within the general population). It is an ethnocracy that surpasses in sheer resilience the Apartheid in South Africa since dismantled. Which is why TDM feels that he & Perkasa cannot never go wrong to leverage on this principle against 1 Malaysia. For 1 Malaysia is but just a token tentative baby step to counter something (Ethnocracy) that has spun a seamless web, grown deep roots around the whole fabric of national life holding it together under one theme, official or unofficial.
4. Nevertheless 1 Malaysia is a palliative to ameliorate the pain of Stark Reality which is 1 Ketuanan that all who are non malays in Peninsula are familiar and bear;
5. The carrot to Sibu Chinese voters is the traditional one : “you guys are practical people and whilst wishing things to change for the better should know the difference between what (practically) may be changed and what not, so easily. Meanwhile here’s RM15 million in financial assistance to 65 Chinese schools. Don’t forget who’s the real “God of Wealth” on earth to roll out the lollies…That’s’ the traditional way MCA does in Peninsula.”
Will Sibu Chinese voters take the route of their counterparts in Hulu Selangor by election?
Correction – RM18 million (not 15)
‘Any money YB?’ a voter asked me, as I asked him to vote for me. He said BN promised RM200 for his vote,” Wong Ho Leng, state assembly representative for Bukit Assek and the underdog DAP candidate for the Sibu parliamentary by-election, posted on Twitter on May 10.’ Report in Malaysiakini by Keruah Usit of May 12, 10.
No wonder they say people get the government deserve.
Democracy of one man one vote is a joke if people put money, race etc instead of governance above all else. Translated it means if majority of people in a country are nincompoops then democracy in Abraham Lincoln’s terms of ‘government of the people by the people and for the people’ will one of ‘government of the nincompoops by the nincompoops and for the nincompoops’!
Taking the long view the more intelligent and educated in any population will lose out in terms of numbers to the less because the former, going for quality instead of quantity, will have less children, they don’t have time to breed because (not just knowledge of contraceptives) they’ve got careers and other competing attractions to how to live a life than just reproducing plenty with its attendant responsibilities. Look at the implications on system of democracy based on one man one vote?
//He said BN promised RM200 for his vote//
Well, he might get RM200 for voting for bn, BUT after that he might also be squeezed out of RM200,000 through the corrupt practices of the bn govt he voted in.
So net loss of RM200,000 – RM200 = RM199,800!
The only way to counter the negative trend is to uplift masses knowledge by quality education made available to all to lift the general threshhold of thoughts. But if your education system sinks? Will level of governance also sink in tandem based on politicians pandering to this lowering of standards based on one man one vote democracy? Or can the greater proliferation of the Internet and accessibility to it reverse this?
Najib’s flash visit to Tua Pek Kong temple showed he’s pretty not sincere. I think the only motive for his 3 minutes visit is to gather votes for BN candidate. However the gods won’t forgive him of his bad intention. Here again,is another example of Najib wanting to stay in power applying whatever it takes.
For Najib to come out with 1Malaysia and for him to visit the Tua Pek Kong temple even for one minute, what more three, we should give him credit. Credit must be given when credit is due.
Having said that and judging from what was said in 1987, what Najib has done is simply unbelievable, if only it were not true. I do not believe that Najib is altruistic. He did what he did because he loves UMNO more. And that is why he is prepared to do anything to save UMNO and make sure that UMNO wins. For the rest of UMNO, they are diehard racists who will make UMNO die hard because they simply can’t see the big picture. It is clear that Najib has failed miserably to convince his own party to accept 1Malaysia. So why should we believe in 1Malaysia if UMNO doesn’t believe in it? Najib may be the head of UMNO but the fact remains that Najib is not UMNO.
All these augurs well for Pakatan, despite its weaknesses. The threatening of a May 13 rally is actually a godsend for Pakatan and if Sibu doesn’t wake up to the fact that BN is not the party to continue to lead Malaysia, nothing will wake them up. One may say that the proposed May 13 rally was not organized by UMNO. Well, if Pakatan were the government, you can be sure that no one will even think to organize one and if Mahathir does it, he will be instantly charged under the Sedition Act. But that is hypothetical because Mahathir would have fled the country by then, if he is still alive.
As we now know from Dr Kua Kia Soong’s book that was based on the London Public Office’s declassified documents, May 13 was actually a coup detat to topple the Tunku. What then is there to commemorate?
Is Mahathir trying to topple Najib now? The more I know of Mahathir, the more I realized that I cannot trust him. Wasn’t he the man who come out with Bangsa Malaysia when the Chinese community supported him in the 1999 election which would have seen him thrown out disgracefully? What is Bangsa Malaysia, if it is not 1Malaysia? So why is he against that? Elementary, because it didn’t suit his purpose now! He wants to be immortalized in the anus of history as a champion of Ketuanan Melayu, even at the cost of ignoring the teachings of I-slam regarding non-racial discrimination.
As it is, Najib is moving towards 1Malaysia while the rest of UMNO is moving in exactly the opposite direction toward Ketuanan Melayu. I don’t know whether anyone who can’t convince his own party members can be called a great leader. Anyone in his right mind would have thought that you have to convince your own party members first before you try to reach out to all people.
But I must say that Najib is a brave leader with a vision. Not a vision for Malaysia but a vision for UMNO’s survival. I can see the enormity of the problems he is facing. You can’t teach monkeys humanitarian values. They have territorial instincts, defending their territory mostly with shouts. And when you have a Mahathir who can’t relinquish power, you have another thorn in your side.
All said, I admire Najib but I will never vote for BN.
