Najib and Hishammuddin would fail as 1Malaysia leaders if they take the easy way out to court popularity in the “Allah” controversy

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the Home Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein would fail as 1Malaysia leaders if they take the easy way out to court popularity in the “Allah” controversy and fail to effectively represent all ethnic and religious groups in the country.

Hishammuddin said yesterday that the government does not prohibit the people from expressing their views over the use of the word “Allah” by the Catholic weekly magazine Herald, but on the condition that their actions do not undermine national security.

Najib today defended Hishammuddin’s stand on plans by several organizations to stage a demonstration on Friday tomorrow to protest the use the word “Allah” by other religions.

Would Najib and Hishammuddin be so benign and tolerant if demonstrations are organized to support the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s Dec. 31 judgment that the Herald may use the term “Allah”?

Both the Prime Minister and Home Minister’s stance are in direct contradiction to the rationale for the urgent “stay” application on the KL High Court’s “Allah” judgment made by the Attorney-General on behalf of the Home Ministry on the ground of “national interest” and agreed to by the Catholic Church also in the national interest.

Why have the “national interest” and concerns of national security prompting the extraordinary speed with which the application for stay for the KL High Court judgment of Dec. 31 was made, a hearing date fixed and application granted – all within a week – suddenly disappeared from the radar of the powers-that-be immediately after the granting of the “stay” with the consent of the Catholic Church?

Was the government decision to appeal against the KL High Court judgment made in the name of “1Malaysia” – receiving the Cabinet’s approval and not just at the instance of the Home Minister?

Malaysians of all faiths and the world are watching how Malaysia – Najib and his government in particular – are handling the “Allah” controversy, whether in line or totally in disregard of the Najib policy and slogan of “1Malaysia. People First. Performance Now”.

There had been responsible and rational responses as well as irresponsible, irrational, emotional and even extremist responses.

The “Allah” controversy is not a time for one-upmanship or brinkmanship. It is an acid test as to whether the Najib administration is capable of responsible, sober and just response and rational conflict-resolution in plural Malaysia.

On its handling of the “Allah” controversy, Malaysians and the world may be making a conclusive judgment whether Najib’s “1Malaysia. People First. Performance Now” policy is to be taken seriously or is just an empty slogan.

I had suggested that the Cabinet should convene an inter-religious conference to reach an out-of-court settlement of the “Allah” controversy to demonstrate that Najib’s 1Malaysia policy has meaningful application in conflict-resolution and creating inter-religious understanding, goodwill and harmony in Malaysia.

Why is Najib and his Cabinet shy in responding to this proposal?

90 Replies to “Najib and Hishammuddin would fail as 1Malaysia leaders if they take the easy way out to court popularity in the “Allah” controversy”

  1. Jib and Kris are tolerant of demonstrations on Friday tomorrow to protest the use the word “Allah” by other religions.

This means no harassment or arrests by the police.

Then why are harassment and arrests allowed during candlelight vigils?

1malaysia BUT there are 2 different treatments by police.

Police should start arresting all those shouting “1malaysia” because they are propagating ONE BIG LIE

  2. ” Najib and Hishammuddin would fail as 1Malaysia leaders if they take easy way out to court popularity in the “ALLAH” controversy ” . Yeap, let them be,they don’t deserved to be national leaders. Hishammuddin’s condition to allow the Catholic and others to express the word “ALLAH ” so long it would not undermined national security. Frankly the people of Sabah and Sarawak including the Catholic Church have been expressing the word “ALLAH” for hundreds of years.Undermining state’s national security in fact never ever been thought about. But how come it’s now ?. I think Umnoputras/warlords have not only undermined but caused more threats to national secuity than any other political or non political entity in the country. Therefore I hope Najib and Hishammuddin should be more careful especially when they implicate others.

  3. Just like to add something that I guess Malaysia had oversighted. For those love to watch Tan Sri P. Ramlee’s movie i.e Madu Tiga, If you can remember a scene where the late Alias Congo was playing a Chinese Apek holding a flag and about to jump to from a tree. The dialog was something like “Hi! Tuan Nallah, Dari hidup lagi baik gua mati ….” Here, the Tuan Nallah was actually “Tuhan Allah”. However, due to what we all know that Chinese in those days couldn’t pronounce proper Bahasa Melayu, thus the word “Tuhan Allah” was pronounced as “Tuan Nallah”. If you as those Melaka Baba and Nyonya, they will tell you that it is norm for them to say something like “Hi Tuan Nallah, Alamak Tuan Nallah and etc…” It is used in daily conversation but the only thing that the Babas and Nyonyas did not do is to put it in writing. So, if they can’t used the word anymore, what words should they be using then? I know for fact because I am a BABA.

Back in school when I was in Johor Bahru, all student from primary and secondary all suppose to sing the State Anthem: The song starts with the word “Allah peliharakan Sultan”. Are we saying that for those non-muslim, they are suppose to be silent and not to pronounce the word “Allah” at all and straight to “????? peliharakan Sultan”?

  4. Sibu is a town full of majority Christians (both protestants and Catholics). If you said our God is Allxh, you would be killed by us. Simply we don’t want our God to be associated with Allxh.

My honest impression was a TRUE SURPRISE when I first heard that Herald has the Malay version that states God as Allxh. Who actually told the Ibans long time ago that God is Allxh?

It is the same that we don’t want the God in Catholic (Tian Zhu) to be called Shan Di.

  5. Definitely what-bull-sh*t 1M’sia n 2 sets of laws lah
Umno guys can comment, protest, threaten while a case is under appeal
With official blessings as well fr PM n cabinet members
While other ppl cannot comment under a similar situation
What say u, MCA, MIC, Gerakan, n BN political parties fr East M’sia

  6. Bo-liao, don’t believe in MCA or Gerakan or they will fight for you. Most of them believe in Buddism or Taoism. If the ministers are not Catholics, they would now be laughing behind the Catholics. That is the real fact of the Chinese politicians. They cannot look after their own axx even, and please don’t expect them to fight for you.

  7. Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the police will not stop the protestors because they need to express their emotion and feeling.

Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein should also think of those who protest against the ISA. These people are humans too and some have love ones in the ISA detention center. They also need to express their emotion and feeling. Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein must not practice double standard by asking the police to disperse them.

  8. //Najib today defended Hishammuddin’s stand on plans by several organizations to stage a demonstration on Friday tomorrow to protest the use the word “Allah” by other religions.// (YB Kit)

Najib and Hishammuddin are trying to play fire like a small kid now. If they are to lose the control on the anarchical crowds, just imagine what will happen to Najib’s political regime. Najib’s premiership will be taken over by Muhyiddin Yassin and Hishammuddin’s Home Ministership be taken over by Mukhriz Mahathir, with Ahmad Zahid Hamidi be appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister.

Are Najib and Hishammuddin still think that it is very funny to allow massive scale protests to be carried out concurrently by the Umno fanatics on Friday 8 Jan 2010 after the mosque worship sessions?

  9. > Ever wonder what would happen if Pope Benedict issues a decree that only Catholics, and not Protestants, can use the word “God” in their prayers?

If the Pope shall declare that from now on, God will be named Allxh, I can guarantee you that vast majority of the Catholics will be against it.

[I used Allxh in order to avoid the censorship by the blog]

  10. Let me quote one blogger realistic comments:-

In a milestone moment, PAS, the Islamic party, is holding onto the more plural and moderate position while Umno is digging itself into an intolerant hard-line position that has no parallel that I know of in the Muslim world.

“Umno is fanning communal sentiment, and the government it leads is taking up policy lines based on ‘sensitivities’ rather than principle. The issue appears to be more about racial sentiment than religious, let alone constitutional principles,”
Umno’s response to the “Allah” controversy was “short of leadership and moral fibre.”
This goes without saying that the present 3 apportunistic, racist and religious bigots in UMNO are not fit to run a multi-racial country as HM,DPM and PM.They just talk and talk about 1Malaysia, equality and fairness BUT acted otherwise. These guys are now trying to hoodwink and divert the rakyat attention from the numerous scandals currently reported like the PKFZ, missing military engine fiasco, unlawful means grabbing of Perak state, Mongolian lady brutal murder etc……..
We must kick all these no good no heart bums outcome GE13.
Long live PKR!!! Kick all UMNO goons now running the country out for good of the country.

  11. What happens if the court rules in favour of the Herlad again. Offcourse this which will never happen with the government pointing the gun to the courts[deleted]
Any one want to bet? I bet my last ringgit.
The Herlad cannot help much for the poor East Malaysian Christians as they were the ones who brought the government to power in the last election. Maybe after G13, yes.

  12. The Christian Bible,if it is written in Arabic has to use Allah to mean God,and it is so in all Christian Arabic Bibles. And if it written in Chinese, then God will have to be Shan Di.How could it be otherwise? And how could there there any protestation by anybody if the english word God is not found in Swahili Christian Bibles since there is a word for God in Swahili?
Thus if the Bible is written in Bahasa Malaysia, then Allah has to be used since it is also the commonly accepted word for God in this country.
It is simply about what medium of communication one uses in one’s Holy Book.

  13. They’ve clearly not learned their lesson in 2008.
The fall this time will be greater. We’re all watching you UMNO, MIC,MCA and keeping an account of all the misdeeds you have been involved in and condoning.

The race, religion bullying should stop. The younger generation cannot tolerate this old school of thought anymore. We are embracing globalisation and a borderless state. To continue with immature rantings is holding us back.

  14. Three brothers, and one father…. and they seem to be fighting all the time, LOL. Why can’t the Jews, the Christians, and the Muslims, purported praying to one and the same God, coexist peacefully?

We have so many Tua Pek Kong, and I hardly see anyone fighting over religion.

  15. Najib failed long time ago and for many reasons before this issue. [deleted]

So many instances should have disqualified him. Yet so many failures and he is still the PM. If that is not an indictment of UMNO/BN system, I don’t know what is.

  16. As what Tengku Razaleigh said in a speech delivered at the ISEAS Regional Outlook Forum 2010 at the Shangri-la Hotel, Singapore on Jan 7: – “As Umno is rejected by the voters, party members pursue racial issues more stridently. They think this will shore up their “base”. They are mistaken about the nature of that base. As they do so, they become more extreme and out of touch with ordinary voters of every race and religion whose major concerns are not racial or religious identity but matters such as corruption, security, the economy and education…..” He continued : “Sensitivities” is the favoured resort of the gutter politician. With it he raises a mob, fans its resentment and helps it discover a growing list of other sensitivities. This is a road to ruin. A nation is made up of citizens bound by a shared conception of justice and not of mobs extracting satisfaction for politicised emotional states. As a mark of our decline, at some point in our recent history the government itself began to speak the language of sensitivities. In the controversy over whether Christians are allowed to use the term “Allah” the government talks about managing sentiment when it should be talking about what is the right thing to do. This is what government sounds like when a political system and its leadership have come unstuck from the rule of law. It goes from issue to issue, hostage to the brinksmanship of sensitivities. Small matters threaten to erupt into racial conflict. The government of a multiracial society that cannot rise above sentiment is clearly too weak or too self-interested to hold the country together. It has lost credibility and legitimacy. The regime is in crisis”.

I think they (leadership) tried to reap some leverage out of the controversy but as the time draws near to the brink, basically backtracked, as the situation is serious and may turn dangerous….so its time to stop this brinksmanship.

    For examples:

Earlier PM Najib said that “the government cannot stop people from gathering at mosques tomorrow to protest” – Malaysiakini’s report filed by Andrew Ong Jan 7. Then Home Minister Hishammuddin said that “he did not say that the Home Ministry would allow the protest over the “Allah” issue to take place tomorrow” – report by TheMalaysianInsider, Shazwan Mustafa Kamal Jan 7th. He said that the matter was “in the hands of the police” to monitor and assess the situation”. So what’s the position of the Police?

You should commend on this occasion the stance of our Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan (IGP). To quote excerpts of what the IGP said as reported in TheMalaysianInsider Thursday Jan 7 under caption “IGP warns against any ‘Allah’ protest –

‘Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan today warned the groups planning to stage protest rallies against the use of the word “Allah” to cancel their plans or face action. He added that police would monitor the situation and would not compromise with anyone who tried to disrupt harmony and pose a threat to the safety of the country. “Do not do anything that might aggravate the situation. We must practise caution when dealing with religious issues because they are very sensitive,” he told reporters after opening a Innovative and Quality Management seminar for police here today, commenting on reports that a number of non-governmental organisations were planning to stage peaceful protest rallies, in mosques throughout the city here, after the Friday prayers tomorrow. He stressed that the police have not issued any permits, even for peaceful protest rallies.“ How can police issue a permit for a gathering at a mosque because it is a place of worship,” he said.’

  17. UMNO must be seen and noted as defender of the Islamic religion.
It’s one of their dirty ways to get votes.
So many unfinished corruptions cases….TKH’s murder court case….all Malaysians must have their attentions diverted again. .and what is better than using religion to do it.

  18. INCREDIBLE!! UNBELIEVABLE!!

If only that they would channel all the brains and capital investment to focus on the RIGHT things to do to make Malaysia prosper, we could be developed country by today.

What value add is all these going to bring to the nation and it’s people? WAKE UP, we have already hit the dump with all the stupid things we spend our time and money on, and make a big fool of our country to the world.

Set a KPI with the CORRECT MEASURABLE GOAL. The final overall goal has to be to improve the country (many aspects) irregardless of race. If you can do that, you don’t even need 1Malaysia. Next, prove it to the rakyat how you want each and everyone of the rakyat to go about to achieve this goal. Then only measure KPI. The KPI has to have a DIRECT MEASUREABLE link to how to improve/prosper the nation and it’s people (I mean ALL it’s people and not only certain groups). Anything else is not important.

Look at all the “noise” in ALL our daily news. How is this going to make us a develop nation. Ask yourself, how will all these govt actions going to prosper the nation? Can it be measured? Proof it to the rakyat, be transparent, publish the numbers and breakdown on you get to the final number.

Until then, we are going 2 step backwards with every step we are trying/pretending to take forward.

  19. Stop politicising “Allah” and religion to gain political mileage!

So ridiculous, now UMNO wants to claim rights of ownership to “Allah”. They not only revealing their feeling of insecurity but the lack of confidence in their faith Islam, that Allah seems so fragile?

PM Najib and his cousin Hishammuddin Hussein Onn and UMNO are fanning the fire of anger by encouraging protesters! This will be the end and final downfall of UMNO/BN government, for sure!

… saw how intolerant they were when it came to peaceful Candlelight Vigils, when the red squad were sent in full combat gear to bash up and arrest participants/concered citizens by the hundreds, why?

  20. Uncle Kit , why can’t some truly educated parlimentarian like yourself educate the NEP educated MORONS like PM and keris kissing kissamuddin and the likes in UMNO and all the other NEP educated citezenx=s of the country the true meaning of the word ‘ ALLAH ‘ , YOU could perhaps use your middle east contacts to in your education programme for a start please tell them to look at this defination :

Allah (Arabic: ?????, All?h, Turkish: Allah, IPA: [?al????h] ( listen)) is the standard Arabic word for God.[1] While the term is best known in the West for its use by Muslims as a reference to God, it is used by Arabic-speakers of all Abrahamic faiths, including Christians and Jews, in reference to “God”.[1][2][3] The term was also used by pagan Meccans as a reference to the creator-god, possibly the supreme deity in pre-Islamic Arabia.[4]

  21. did pariahmudin forgot to bring his brain to work or he is just plain stupid? I guess he is plain stupid and brainless.
Probably they are encouraging this to declare emergency. No election, still in power.

I think I have seen enough of pariahness in this country for the past one year. Best part is everytime umno opened their mouth, pariahness spilt out.

  22. It’s a fundamental mistake if they allow these protesters to go ahead tomorow. It only takes a handful of emotionally enraged inconsiderate hooligans to cause harm to public, private property and innocent civilians walking the streets tomorow.

  23. Hmmm……

“Racist comments from one or two Umno leaders should be ignored because the majority of members in the party are not racists”, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

(excerpt from news article at http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/11/2/nation/5024686&sec=nation)

UMNO’s boss says only just ignore but no need take action like suspension or even expulsion?
Does he mean that since he considers that the ‘majority’ in UMNO aren’t racists, racist remarks from the ‘minority’ is tolerable enough to be ignored?

Bukit Bendera Umno division committee members may resign en bloc to pave the way for an emergency general meeting to elect Datuk Ahmad Ismail as division chairman again.
Ahmad said the members were contemplating the move following the decision of the party’s supreme council on Dec 4 to lift his three-year suspension which was meted out in September last year.
He was suspended for uttering a racist remark during the Permatang Pauh by-election campaign on Aug 23.
His remarks that Chinese were squatters in the country and not deserving of equal rights caused an uproar.
In September last year, Ahmad, who was then division chairman, taunted Gerakan during a press conference that later saw the photograph of then chief minister Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon being torn by some Umno supporters.

(excerpt from news article at http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/12/10/nation/5275058&sec=nation)

UMNO has reduced the ‘slap on the wrist’ that it had meted out on its Bukit Bendera ‘warrior’ to a mere ‘pin prick on the finger’.

So, is this the true nature of UMNO seeing how it responds to racist comments/remarks by its members while its boss exercises his ‘1Malaysia’ public relation campaign as a measure of ‘damage control’ from the aftermath of the GE12 which could have toppled UMNO’s BN government?

  24. Malaysia has to be consistent with human right and freedom of expression; let’s them demonstrate as long as not resort to violent… in the 1st place why herald wanna to provoke the muslim?…

  25. I AM WONDERING WHAT THE CREATOR WOULD DO TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE? EACH GROUP TRYING TO NAME HIM BASED ON ITS INTEPRETATION FOR ITS OWN CONVENIENCE!!! AND WHERE WOULD ALL THOSE LIVED MORE THAN 2000 YEARS AGO DISAPPEAR TO??!! wHAT COULD THEY DO TO SEEK THE ‘MODERN’ VERSION OF FAITH TO SAVE THEIR ETERNAL SOULS??? SINCERELY I PREFER TO LEAVE IT TO THE INDIVIDUAL TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM!!! EVEN IF HE OR SHE IS MY CREATOR’S GIVEN FRIEND.

Malaysia has to be consistent with human right and freedom of expression; let’s them demonstrate as long as not resort to violent… in the 1st place why herald wanna to provoke the muslim?…

Didn’t the Minister for Plantations Industry and Commodities, Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, mention that the term “Allah” had been used for a long time, even before Sabah and Sarawak decided to form Malaysia with Malaya, Sarawak and Singapore in 1963?
Didn’t he say that the Sabah communities have always used Bahasa Melayu as it is the regional lingua franca and Christianity has been in Sabah since 1881?
Didn’t he explain that the Christian Bumiputra community in Sabah, like the Murut and Kadazandusun, perform religious rites in three languages – English, Bahasa Melayu and their mother tongue, whereby in the rites where English is used, the term is ‘God’ while the rites in Bahasa Melayu is ‘Allah’ and the one in the mother tongue, like Kadazandusun, is ‘Kinoingan’?
So, by explaining these historical facts, is it true that Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, like the Herald magazine, also allegedly wants to provoke the Muslim community?
So, should there also be a demonstration against him, in consistent with this human rights & this freedom of expression?

  27. It seems that the UMNO-led Malaysian Government is becoming more notorious than ever.;……

    (1)
The Prime Minister-Najib and the Home Minister-Hishamuddin supported and encouraged the the religious fanatics to commit an act which is ‘a comptempt of court’

    (2)
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz has openly declared that the high court judge -Lau Bee Lan was wrong on her 31/12/09 ruling on “Allah” – based on personal biases and political interest and not from the RULE OF LAW PERSPECTIVE… so now the question is :do a court’s judge need to follow an order from the Barisan Nasional Politicians? And will the Courts of Appeal/Federal Court judges in the “Allah ruling case will be ordered to follow certain prescription given by the UMNO politician.

(3). The missing military assets – The theft of 2 F-5E military fighter jet engines and other accessories implies that the DEFENSE MINISTRY can even defend it assets from thieves so can the Malaysians put the trust on the ministry to defend the country from the enemies?

    Probably someone should resign now!

  28. “There had been responsible and rational responses as well as irresponsible, irrational, emotional and even extremist responses.” (YB Kit)

Perhaps, what chengho said is right:
“Malaysia has to be consistent with human right and freedom of expression!”

Every citizen shall be given the rights to enjoy the freedom of speech and expression as well as the freedom of assembly. We may just hope that the massive scale of demonstrations to be carried out tomorrow will reflect only responsible and rational responses from all parties involved. We shall also pray that there will not be any irresponsible, irrational, emotional and extremist responses to be given by the demonstrators and protesters tomorrow!

We must also warn Najib and Hishammuddin that they must honour the human rights and honour the system of parliamentary democracy and to avoid using any kind of foul methods like water canoning the demonstrators, firing tear gas or declaring state of emergency tomorrow!

  29. This is all double standard.Just wait what the police will do if the non Muslims were to stage a similar demonstration. It is damn nauseating to face the big bullies from such uncivilised and uncultured people.

  30. UMNO government practices only two standards. The government supports demonstration for government actions, and the government condemns demonstration against government actions. All explanations given by Najib and his cousin are excuses, and they are not even good at that.

Allah of Islamic faith is shared by all Muslims around the world. Non-Muslims outside Malaysia called Allah their God, and the power of Allah to individual Muslims is not diminished by it. Why should the Home Minister be petty about Christians using Allah in their publications? Religion is a personal matter and the action of the former Home Minister politicized it.

Non-Muslims outside Malaysia also call their God Allah. Can we stop them? We can’t so why not be charitable to Malaysians? How can we share our destiny as Malaysians when we are not willing to share God.

  31. The permit for public assembly must be applied from a police station and be approved by the Police. IGP Musa Hassan warns that no one shall hold any public assembly for demonstration at the mosque tomorrow since no permit has been approved and given out by the police for assembly on Friday, 8 Jan 2010.

Shall the Police get ready to detain any Umno members who purportedly incite public for holding an assembly to do a demonstration and protest against the Catholic Church tomorrow?

  32. For God’s sake, the protesters will be given water to drink and Petronas gas to cook at home!!! Dun worry too much about them, lucky come to luckiest, St Peter is distributing keys for them in heaven, house? car? yacht?…….Alle Bless Bla Bla Bla…

  33. If the UMNOputras can can do this to the Christians, who’s to prevent them from doing the same thing to their fellow Muslims. Since now they have copyrighted the name “Allah” and the priesthood of Islam Hadhari faithfully serve their every wishes, don’t you think that those fellow Muslims who oppose them will be declared unbelievers and will be stopped from using the name of Allah. Remember a few years back there was an attempt by the UMNOputras to pressure the Agong to declare PAS as infidels and to ban them? Real frightening scenario indeed!

  34. These 2 cousins are now hand in glove managing the country, not by fair means but to make themselves champions of the UmnoUtusans.

How long can they go ?

God will make a person crazy before destroys him. Their days will come

  35. “Isn’t the gathering at the mosques on Fridays considered as an ASSEMBLY?” (ktteokt)

Gather at the mosque for having prayers session does not need a Police permit for assembly. However, gather outside the mosque for doing demonstration and protest against Catholic Church can be seen as a belligerent challenge trying to arouse sensitive incitement. Holding a demonstration for protest against someone else’s religion can be seen as a seditious act, which is violating the law. All peace-loving Malaysians should not have taken part in this kind of hatred-creating devil-driven demonstration!

  36. chengho,
The sophistication of the Malay language may be in question if you do not allow “Allxh” to be used by Catholics to mean God. The Holy Bible already uses “Tuhan” to mean “The Lord”, to reuse “Tuhan” again to mean God is awkward and does not reflect the accurate meaning of God in the context of biblical scriptures. Why don’t you get a copy of the Malay version of the Holy Bible in order to find out the difference between the word “Tuhan” and the word “Allxh”?

  37. Perhaps we should introduce a new word “God” into the Malay dictionary so that the Catholics are left with one more option to use “God” instead of “Allxh” for referring to Jehovah Jireh.

  38. #50 by chengho on Thursday, 7 January 2010 – 11:28 pm

    Ekans;

probably all this while they’ve been misled by the missionaries , why not only ‘ Tuhan ‘… check with Vatican…

    chengho,

Earlier, I had posted a comment in a previous topic in LKS’s blog which contains an excerpt from http://www.answering-christianity.com/allah2.htm

Further proofs from brother Tera Tak Adamar; may Allah Almighty always be pleased with him:

LAI stand for Lembaga AlKitab Indonesia or Indonesian Bible Society.

    please visit: http://www.alkitab.or.id/foreword.htm

Recently there was a big issue among Christians in Indonesia about the word ‘Allah’ used as God in the Indonesian’s Bible by LAI. Some have said that ‘Allah’ is not a truth God, and should be used ‘Elohim’ instead. But LAI just keep quiet.

The issue come to the peak when there was a group of Christians produced their version of Bible by removing the word ‘Allah’ as name of God and put ‘Elohim’ instead. This version of Bible has started to spread, and Christians in Indonesia have started to confuse, which is which????

In this critical condition, Indonesian Bible Society under United Bible Societies (UBS) – WORLDWIDE BIBLE SOCIETY has wrote a circular to defend that ‘Allah’ is really the God of every prophet, the article is “Penggunaan “Allah” dalam Alkitab” or in English is “The Using of “Allah” in AlKitab (Bible)” by Dr. Daud H.Soesilo (Email: [email protected]), he start his explanation about who Is ‘Allah’ originally by:

“el, elohim, eloah adalah nama pencipta alam semesta dalam bahasa Ibrani, bahasa asli Alkitab Perjanjian Lama. Dalam bahasa Arab, allah (bentuk ringkas dari al ilah) merupakan istilah yang seasal (cognate) dengan kata Ibrani el, elohim, eloah.”

    in English….

“el, elohim, eloah is the name of the creator of the universe in Hebrew (Ibrani), the original language of the Old Testament. In Arabic language, allah (simplified form from from al-illah) is the cognated title with the word in Hebrew for el, elohim, eloah.”

please visit the whole explination – all in Indonesia language: http://www.alkitab.or.id/jelas.htm

So this is clearify who Allah really is. He is the God of this universe and the God of every prophet.

To make you confirm about this matter please email to Dr. Daud H.Soesilo from UBS or write or Email to Mr. Supardan, the General Secretary of LAI, his address is:

That URL is from a page of a website which was set up by an American Arab Muslim of Palestinian origin named Osama Abdallah to defend Islam against criticisms by certain Christians.
So, why isn’t Osama Abdallah, in the defence of Islam, criticising Indonesian Christians and the Indonesian Bible Society for probably being misled by the missionaries all this why over the use of that word instead of only ‘Tuhan’?
Check with Osama Abdallah… His e-mail address is in his website…

  39. well the pari@hs have spoken cowardly. They are burning chuches now. But we will remain calm cause we are not Pari@h like them idiots. People who do not know how to reason will always choose violence to get their way.
those who live by the sword shall perish by the sword.

Well idiots continue to do what you are doing. Let the world see what kind of pari@h tuans are you. The gundu type I believe.

  40. All_h means umno.
    That is a fact.
    So accept it boys.
    Just like I did.
And immediately your mind would clear up.
    The issue will then vanish.
    “Jib Jib Boleh.”

I notice the return of long forgotten umno cybertrooper “chengho” – an umnoputra in cheongsam. Soon Zak too will return.

  41. This matter involve international muslim communitities translation to other language.

Well, it translate it as Muslim name for god.

or they prefer to tranlate it newly as Muslim’s god.

If they prefer to new one translation then it need accepted by international muslim communities.

This is not a small matter, it involve the name of GOD.

If there is only one GOD, and every human are his children regardless of races and religions then it may annoy him.

  42. while other countries are combating extremely cold and snows, some are having -60 degree C,this Bolehland is about to burst from a word “Allah”!

It shows that too many racists in this land,we didnt see them gather 1 million ppl to protest Mat Rempit,corruption,anti-dadah,rob n rape n wrong-doings by certain ppl,but thy
are very expert in escalating the ‘temperature’ of race or religion issues, right?

  43. indonesia,turki,egypt,95% muslims, never bully their fellow minority non-muslims over penny issues, moreover, muslims can go for beauty pageant contests,in India,Shahrul Khan married an Hindhu wife but she doesnt hv to convert, and till today, the muslim woman that drank beer issue was still pending for dunno wat reasons……..

  44. CH Tan,
    Excellent observation.

You see, in the past there was actually no issue at all, we all get along ok. The muslims were fine with non-muslims using the word “Allah” as long as they don’t insult “Allah”.

This is never an issue. never.

Until now. Some very irresponsible party is trying to use this as an opportunity to start some kind of fight.
Now they’re grabbing every opportunity they see & try their best to turn it into a religion/race issue.

Everyone please don’t fall into another evil trap from the crooked you-know-who.

Hey, maybe one day some unlucky guy lost control of his car on the road and accidentally damaged the gate of a mosque. & if those punks found out the guy driving the car was not a muslim… voila! you know what?

They’re going to call this an insult to Islam! They’ll pay a few people to start some kind of protest. They’d hope other muslims can get mislead & join in. They’d hope the protest turns ugly…

  45. The God of Universe and creator of all will be aghast that his children are fighting over and politicizing who or which group has exclusive right to call him by a certain name in His honour.

  46. We seem to have forgotten. The Quran talks about the end of the world. The Bible agrees with this too. So we shall wait and see the appearance of this one true God which everyone wants to claim is his or hers. Is it Allah or is it Tuhan aka God ?

  47. I am shocked by the Malaysiakini’s report Jan 8, 10 6:49am of:-

“A church has been fire-bombed in an attack that gutted its ground floor, church officials said, escalating a dispute over the use of the word ‘Allah’ by non-Muslims.At least four other churches are also believed to have been attacked in the last 12 hours in the Klang Valley, including the Assumption Church in Petaling Jaya. “

The attack on PJ church apparently failed.

This is TheMalaysiaInsider’s report by Debra Chong PETALING JAYA, Jan 8 filed :-

(Quote) “A Catholic church next to the Assunta Hospital here came under attack early this morning, just hours after another church in nearby Kuala Lumpur was torched. Roman Catholic church officials said some homemade explosives were lobbed into the Church of the Assumption in Jalan Templar at about 4am.
“It did not explode,” said Father Lawrence Andrew, the editor of Catholic paper Herald.
Lawrence was himself informed of the incident through a text message sent out by Assumption parish priest Father Phillips Muthu.
“Someone threw homemade kerosene explosives into Assumption Church, Jalan Templar, Petaling Jaya at 4am. Am going to Police later. Earlier the Metro Tabernacle was burned in Desa Melawati, media has filed story,” said the message forwarded to The Malaysian Insider. (Unquote)

As can be seen here, it is highly irresponsible for our politicians to play up religious issues and create tension just for the sake of political mileage and their popularity.

It will provoke fanatics of marginal mentality to perpertrate violent acts like these which will in turn create disharmony in a multi-racial and multi religious society like ours and escalate tensions if not violence detrimental to all.

In light of what has happened and the tense situation to allow demonstrations is to court disaster.

  48. It is imperative for our politicians to stop their politising of the issue and for the govt to come out with an immediate statement to condemn the attacks on the churches and to show unequivocal determination to stop/clamp down illegal public assemblies that only serve to exacerbate tension by adding fuel to fire in light of what happened.

  49. “So this is clearify who Allah really is. He is the God of this universe and the God of every prophet. ”

    Wrong.

God who revealed Himself through the jewish scriptures is not known as Allah but

Then Moses said to God, “Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me
to you.’ Now they may say to me, ‘What is His name?’
What shall I say to them?”

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said,
“Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel,
‘I AM has sent me to you.’

God, furthermore, said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘The LORD (YHWH), the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob,
has sent me to you.’ This is My name forever, and
this is My memorial-name to all generations.
    Exodus 3:13-15

Christians may use allah to denote god but this word cannot be used as a proper noun to describe YHWH as Dr. Daud H.Soesilo has indicated. Wrong.

  50. Most unfortunate incidents !
    Leaders should calm situation Now.
Christians should also remain calm and steadfast in faith.
Your God Jesus ask you to love even those who persecute you, pray for them.
Jesus loves you and will help you always. Peace.

  51. Actually I disagree with those that want the govt to stop the protestor. I say go protest. They police should be going after the bombers/attempted bomber.

If you go on twitter, you will hear and overwhelming outpouring of disgust for the acts against the churches – mostly from Malay Muslim. There is even many calls by them to donate and help rebuild the church.

What we have seen is clear evidence there was and has NEVER BEEN real justification for govt to get into the religion of anyone including Malay Muslim in this country. The protest and bombing are the result of the govt messing around with religion. If it just leaves the people alone, they will do fine. Its the same case with social engineering or NEP or national service, languages etc. Just get the hell out of such issues and deal with corruption, poverty, public services, education and everything will work itself out.

  52. BREAKING NEWS!!!

    Following Bolehland’s example,

The Greeks have decided that they have absolute rights to the word “democracy” and so other countries are prohibited from using that word to describe their system of government.

And the Chinese have also decided that they have absolute rights to their ancient inventions of gunpowder, printing and the compass, and other countries will have to pay royalties when using the above items.

And the Indians have claimed exclusive rights to their nasi kandar, so Malaysian food stalls are not
eligible to sell that particular dish.

    1Malaysia Boleh!!

  53. KL, PJ, Klang Valley areas, most have voted for Pakatan Rakyat during GE12.
Hopefully the churches frequented by the bumiputra Christians in Sabah & Sarawak (where most have voted for UMNO’s BN) will remained unharmed.

  54. I cant see christians in the country reacting with aggression at all. Then again, umnoputras aka all_hputras will almost certainly take any reaction, no matter how mild or peaceful, to be a challenge against their right as tuan (now god) of the country.

God is the english word for allaah. So watch it guys. Umnoputras would soon be claiming sole and exclusive ownership of the word “God” as well.

And Indonesia has claimed exclusive rights to Bahasa Indonesia, so spelt end of the day for the so-called Bahasa Melayu (most of which are Bahasa Indonesia).

Malaysia “Tak Boleh”, and need to invent a new language.

    Oh yes, hospital (ruma sakit is Indonesian?);
Polis (mata-mata is Indonesian?); quisen, Otopedik, rekod, komputer, implikasi, sensasi, saikology, talivisen. See Malaysia still “Boleh”.

Oops, Inggeris people better don’t claim exclusive rights to English, otherwise, susah lah, got to invent another language pula.

    Just for fun.

  56. Thanks GOD ALMIGHTY,the ummnoputras are attacking and bombing only some selected churches throught out the country.I think most malaysian catholics/christians have the love of GOD and through the grace of GOD have patience and would not retaliate but just forgive all those devil driven trouble makers as they did not know what they were doing. On the contrary,What’s really worring me pretty much is these evil umnoputras, not satisfied with the result would turn to attacking and bombing certain mosques through out the country and putting the sole blame on catholics/christians. They would then go on a holy war or “jihat” retaliation spree. This is a fact I have learned from the Sabah State’s mosque incident. It would be a tragedy if it’s repeated again.

  57. Kerismuddin and Najib are the two mafia heads directing all the operations, if the latter can blow up human bodies, what is a building? Then they gloat by saying they are donating RM 500K (tax payers monies, not part from the submarine commissions) for the damage,
    HIPOCRATES

  58. WHAT IS NEXT???? ???? Are they going to blow up sikh temples in Malaysia, becos thier holy scripture dating a few centuruies also uses the ‘A’ word.

CAN SOMEONE SEND THE GOVERNMENT OF MALAYSIA BACK TO PRIMARY SCHOOL TO STUDY ENGLISH.

  59. The most extremist political party in Malaysia is…… you guest it right , no need to mention , thy capitalize on trival issues to endear themselves to the muslims on the street. and they say they are innocent, they said they had nothing do do with the burning of churches, when in fact the two top ministers from that party were the ones who endorsed the demonstrations ( after friday prayers) at the very first place, only following that the attacks began . NOW they have started stoning a sikh temple, WHERE DOES THE BUCK STOP WITH THESE CORRUPT EXTREMISTS.
