Stop Calling 103 on Maxis

If you are using Maxis network and please be alert that now the new charges for making 103 (TM Directory) was increased from 30 cents to RM2.00 per call.(extra of RM1.70 almost 700% jump).

I just found out from my maxis statement dated 21/6/08 today and i rang up the Maxis 123 and been told the new rate was started lately only and since I’m not aware of this new adjustment and they willing to waive it for this month but next month will be charging me based on the new rate (RM2.00 per call to 103).

Shocking right? The best part is everyone knew how ‘good’ service our TM directory can provide?? Most the time i need to call at least 2-3 times to get the number i looking for mean that one number i need to pay RM4.00 to RM6.00…OMG. …equal to one meal already…

So please pass this news to your maxis friends to alert them the new charges.

  1. While they’re objectionable, I think these kinds of prices are a sign of dwindling markets for some services that are moving online. Do you get a human operator for that? Humans are expensive.

BT in the UK charge 40p (RM2.30) + 99p (RM5.50) per minute for directory enquiries. On the other hand, most of the moved-to-Internet services in the UK are exactly what they should be: free, fast, simple and so reliable you would think they were a fundamental part of the fabric of the Universe. I don’t often find an Internet-based service in Malaysia that works that well.

  2. “I just found out from my maxis statement dated 21/6/08 today….” Boy. Talk about efficiency or is this really snail, snail mail?

Has anyone tried to get a telephone directory book from TM? Previously they used to throw a copy into your compound but now you have to go collect it at the Kedai Telekom.

But you don’t really know when the new one is out. And they come out with different directories, residential, commercial, yellow pages, each at different time of the year, if at all. Then you have the different states to think about e.g. KL, Selangor etc.

This really isn’t a very good system. If everything is already on a database, why not just publish once from it?

  3. I have tried to visit blog.limkitsiang.com from my Maxis mobile phone countless times. Is this blog blocked by Maxis?

My brother asked me to switch to Digi because according to him Digi rate is cheaper. I ignored his advice but after reading this article, I think I’ll reconsider what my brother told me.

How to tell? If you can surf other sites ok, and not this one… is your phone very recent? LKS blog pages can be quite ‘fat’ – my old phone couldn’t load them, but it did say “out of memory” (or something like that).

Try loading something very small from LKS blog first – like robots.txt (not all sites have one, but blog.lks does):

    http://blog.limkitsiang.com/robots.txt

If you can load that, the site is not being blocked. Your local Maxis shop might be the best place to ask.
