Najib should put speculation to rest – Is Hamid Albar Petronas Chairman and Omar Ong Petronas non-executive Board director?

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak at his 3 pm media conference today to announce the revised figures of the countrty’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) should put to rest the heated and contentious speculation in the blogosphere on new and important appointments in Petronas.

The Petronas Board of Directors met yesterday.

Najib should clarify once and for all whether former Home Minister, Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar has been appointed Petronas Chairman and if so, explain why a person deemed unfit to continue as Cabinet Minister as to be dropped in the recent reshuffle should be considered proper material as Petronas Chairman.

Furthermore, whether Omar Ong, one of the Putrajaya “Level Four” boys of former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has been appointed non-executive director of Petronas, with a view to his future appointment as Petronas CEO and replacement of Tan Sri Hassan Merican next year – as well as the basis and criteria for such an appointment.

  1. They all need to be taken care of, to be fed, one by one.

Remember Chew Mei Fun’s statement some time ago “who will feed me”?

Amirsham’s OK now. Maybe JJ too. Now Hamid and Ong.

But wait! Where’s Samy and Ong Ka Ting? Are they still ringing the bell?

  2. Albar is more than fit to be an on going Minister …always faithful idiot ….protecting UMNO.
It is that Najib needs Albar in Petronas more…than in cabinet.
Money is power and where are most of our god gifted money be?
You want to steal from Malaysians……you must have an inside trusted man.

  3. Protocol-wise, is former Home Minister, Datuk Seri Syed going to be appointed to (what in popular perception) a more coveted position of Petronas Chairman than that of his ex boss, former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi appointed as adviser to Malaysia Airlines (MAS)? Any reason why it cannot be the other way around?

  4. I strongly believed the reason of appointment depends on the basis below:-

    Situation 1
Owner : “Dog Dog, hand hand!”
The Dog gave its hand wagging its tail.
    Owner : “There you go..good boy…”
The dog was rewarded due to its obedience..

    Situation 2
Owner : “Dog Dog, hand hand!”
The Dog doesn’t know what to do, don’t want to do, refused to do, wag not its tail or give not its hand to the Owner.
Owner : “You stupid dumb pathetic Dog! Get the hell out of here!”
The Owner kick and slap the Dog away because of its disobedience.

“Kalau lu dengar cakap, apa pun ada. Kalau lu tarak dengar cakap, apa pun tarak!”

  5. Datuk Syed Hamid Albar has never been known to possess sharp business acumen like Hassan Merican. It’s much better to appoint Datuk Rafidah Aiziz to this lucrative but vital post. Under the guidance of Hassan Merican, PETRONAS has been developed into a successful mega business organization that has won international recognition. Don’t treat this appointment of PETRONAS Chairman as yet another political appointment.

  6. For such has been the powerful tool that runs the UMNO led government – making “YES” men in every public & civil sector (police, judges, director generals of civil services etc etc etc) by rewarding handsome golden handshakes in the form of Chairmanship, Directorships, Advisor etc etc after their retirement. eg. TDM – Petronas advisor; TLah – MAS advisor.

And now ex home minister’s turn. Sigh!

    The nation continues to bleed!

  7. Jelapang Hii is like evaporated pig’s urine, no more soul left in her.

Sabah and Sarawak should be well-rewarded for saving BN from losing power.

Albar & JJ can team up to form a new Rock Band

  8. It’s BN culture since time immemorial. If one can’t perform never mind, but if he is clever to ‘ampu’ and ‘bodek’ the boss, then he will be well rewarded with high-paying posts!

  9. Petronas is one of the Fortune Top 100 companies. Last year it was the world’s 8th most profitable company, earning UD18 billion. http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/global500/2008/performers/companies/profits.
It made more profits than Toyota or Bank of America, than Bill Gate’s Microsoft or Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway.
Warren Buffett and Bill Gates are supposedly the two richest men in the world.
    Who is Malaysia’s richest man?
Where has the money (our money) gone?

The benchmark should be the late tan sri Azizan the prev chairman..

Ya, I fully agree, after reading his biography.

You don’t know la. Malaysia can’t even dismantle a brick of the Causeway under the agreement. So, how is Malaysia to build a canal in the Johor Straits? You’re like a former PM, always obsessed with how to upset or do in our neighbour.

  11. Repeal the Petroleum Development Act 1974 [Act 144] so that the bleeding of some RM30 trillions – past, present and future in the Petronas hole can stop..

Replace it with 1Malaysia act of public accountabilty, Malaysians start working on this before we lost all the oil resources (little left as depleted) in a few corrupted and irresponsible hands…

  12. Najib is a big joke. Why should he be shocked about the cruelty done by Ah Long when the police force and judiciary are doing worse things to the rakyat?

Rosmah is another big joke. She’s busy promoting a gifted child program that will only benefit a few rich families while many rural schools are like chicken coops.

  13. Goodness me. That chap. Didnt he make a complete fool of himself as a min by using the isa in ways completely outside the ambit of that act? And now he is put in charge of umno’s piggy bank. Umno just cannot rid itself of that silly culture. Expired politicians will be rewarded with all sorts of things from Titles (like wot? Tun?) to vice chancellor of universities and to chairman of glcs. This is umno’s way of prolonging product life cycle. That is why we keep seeing the same few faces all the time everywhere. That is why after a while people get bored of umno.
