Free RPK, redoubtable and irrepressible cyber-warrior, under ISA

Tomorrow, 18 justice-and-freedom-loving Malaysians will collectively shave their heads in protest against the unjust, undemocratic and unlawful detention of Malaysia’s most famous blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin under the Internal Security Act.

The event, organised by DAP Selangor, is also to protest the arbitrary detention of the Hindraf 5 and all other ISA detainees currently languishing in the Kamunting Detention Centre.

Although I had intended to be in Penang till tomorrow evening, I am changing my travel plan to be at the KL-Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall tomorrow morning for this head-shaving protest – in SSS (support, sympathy and solidarity) with RPK, the Hindraf 5 and all other ISA detainees.

Let us all gather at the KL-Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall tomorrow, Sunday, 21st September 2008 at 10.30 am.

RPK is a redoubtable and irrepressible cyber-warrior for human rights and fundamental liberties for all Malaysians.

Yesterday, he scaled a new height as Malaysia’s pre-eminent cyber-warrior when he blogged on the eighth day of his detention under ISA while still under incarceration.

RPK’s blogging from ISA detention would have set off a new flurry or even frenzy among the police as to how RPK could perform such a “IT Houdini”.

In his “blog from ISA detention”, RPK wrote:

“From the way my interrogation is going, they are trying to kill two birds with one stone. First Syed Hamid would have a strong defence against the suit that I am to file against him plus they can ensure how good my lawyers may be in defending me in the sedition and criminal defamation charges, I will never see freedom anyway.”

This is a gross abuse of the ISA as it was enacted to address extraordinary threats to the country like subversion or organised violence and never intended to serve the purpose of “killing two birds with one stone” to silence the country’s pre-eminent cyber-warrior.

Free RPK, redoubtable and irrepressible cyber-warrior, from under ISA!

You have set us all free by your courage …..
You have given all Malaysian, their rights to love this country with their hearts.
You have enlighten all Malays about their evil leaders doings and what have been holding their living standard progress backward.
You have been the one that write to us everything of the truth that we were once blinded by UMNO.
You have never lose sight of the freedom calls which you would like all Malaysian to enjoy.

You got inside friends ah? LOL
You are soldiering on for all of us.
As Jimm said you have blessed us all with your presence.
Thank you RPK for shining a light in our darkness.

  3. Hi YB Kit, good to know DAP is persistent to fight not only for Tan, Teresa, but also RPK and the rest of detainees.

If PR is working in the interest of rakyat, the victory will be for PR. Badawi has been wasting the mandate support of Rakyat and now, he is weak in his party, and weak our of the party as well ( Raykat losing faith on him). If Badawi has rakyat to back up him, i don’t think his UMNO people dare to challenge him. A lesson to learn.

TDM is now keep saying DAP= chinese, PAS= Malay. I hope DAP can put more interest or talk or ideology in Malaysian context, instead of stressing Chinese’s welfare alone. DAP should speak for all races. DAP will be regarded as race based party if uttering is always about chinese, chinese and chinese. Now, fight for ISA abolish is indeed for Malaysian context.

  4. let us work together for the right for all malaysian we want RPK to be out as soon as possisble abolish ISA once and for all.
no more ISA,sedution act all the setupid acts that detained without judgement.
RPK must out,we need you to lead us ..
get all Bee N out of government.
Miss Tan,YB Teresa Kok,Syed Azidi now we want RPK

  5. RPK is undoubtably the catalyst of a new Malaysia, for truly Malaysians. If it is going into the history books, we make sure such legend will be told from generations to generations. That is even bigger being in any history book.

  6. Just got this SMS –

“YB Lim, just read your blog abt the SSS. I m willing to sacrifice my hair and plis count me in. We met at Fullmoon restaurant on 916 night. I was wearing the ISA T-shirt. Tq YB. Sunny Lim”

I gave an instant reply: “Great see u tmr”.

This applies to all Malaysian defenders of human rights who are minded to shave their hair in protest at the recent spate of ISA arrests and to help in giving the anti-ISA momentum a boost.

The latest “ISA release”, Teresa Kok, will also be at the KL-Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall tomorrow morning for the “head-shaving” protest against the ISA and its abuses.

  7. Kalau mau faham situasi ini, bukan nya susah….
In English, it is NOT difficult to understand this situation….
Kalau ikut lawyer cakap, memang tada masuk akal !
Kalau mau faham rational by the law, nanti boleh jadi gila …..

Tapi kalau jadi BODOH and ikut feeling sahaja…
Otak nanti tada sakit & ikut emosi keadaan
Memang masuk akal! 100% perfect sense.

Rule of the Jungle fit exactly what our scenario is

    God bless all of us!

  8. abolish ISA. Even Jemaah Islamiah detainees should be given fair trial or access to legal rights.
Enact a separate anti terrorist act for these issues.
ISA is not a solution but an easy way out. It’s intended for communist and subversive elements.
MPs , bloggers ,journalist, counterfeit experts , human trafficking agents deserve a different set of laws.

  9. Kit,

Don’t forget to call the main stream media to come and do a report on the event – this is the way to arouse public attention.

The event will be more meaningful and self-explanatory if participants can wear T-shirts printed with the “ANTI-ISA” logo.

  10. Keep pressing, release RPK and abolish ISA now.
For YB Teresa there is no turning back, once we march forward, never look back and the evils of tyranny must be completely demolish as soon as possible or otherwise the freedom that we have been dreaming will remain obscure as terror of the darkness continue to rule. We are not vindictive but the rule of law must prevail and Ketuanan Rakyat is the choice of a progressive nation of the future. 2008 is the starting point and we must remain focus to ensure national interest remain intact, come what may!!! Always remember, what remain constant is CHANGE. Sooooo so..RELEASE ALL ISA DETAINEES.

  11. The arrest of Ms Tan, YB Teresa & RPK under ISA and the subsequent denial by the BN cabinet in having a hand in the arrest of the three ignocent guys showed that the head of the police force had more power to decide who to arrest and what law to use. In one way, the BN govt wanted to “show” that it had got nothing to do with this arrest and the police force is independent, but on the other hand, if this is true, it showed the incompetent of the police force from the bottom right up to the top of the force, as they didnt even know the proper use of the ISA, to them, as long as they can take the shortcut and easiest way to arrest any one, they will use ISA!!!

  12. Houdinin or not RPK show that there are support within the PDRM for the Rakyat movement to get away from the BN iron hold to power. Maybe there is hope after all that with the Federal Government change we will have some support within PDRM to get rid of the evil part in the PDRM. There are lost of things we need to repair or put in place but we need all the help from PDRM….

  13. The problem with ISA lies in its simplicity (and pure laziness) during the drafting process.

With due respect to all those involved drafting the law, I believe they have come out with a law in a desperate time. So it may have suited during my grandfather time when communism (anti-China & anti Russia) lurks in the soil of Malaya. But those days were gone now.

It will be more suited that we have separate laws for terrorism, separate law for religious fanatics, separate laws for corrupted politicians, separate laws for liars.

ISA is too general for its own good. It was abused front and back by irresponsible executives and enforcement officers who just poke it as and when they feel like having a go after a bad day.

    Repeal the law.

  14. read the below artical by tulang besi why the current ISA has been used against RPK Syed Azidi and Teresa Kok:

Teresa Kok was A Tool To A Bigger Objective: PAS Joining BN

I am very happy that Teresa Kok is released from her incarceration. But, do we know exactly why she was captured?

I am very happy that my friend Teresa Kok has been released from the dreaded act, Akta Ikut Suka Aku (Akta ISA). I wish her a prosperous life and wish her welcome back to the free world.

As we all know, the azan issue is the main issue behind Teresa Kok’s incarceration. But, we are also informed that Teresa has nothing to do with the azan debacle. As stated by Lim Kit Siang in the Malaysiakini report:

“He also alleged the MCA played a part in her detention.

“Teresa’s arrests was based on a report lodged a day before she was detained. The report on the azan issue was made by a key MCA operative in Puchong.”

After the issue was raised, it was prolonged and continued by Khir Toyo with his famous police report. At the same time, in the blog and internet sphere, rumors of attempts to curb “azan” was spread. Trust me, among the Malays, this rumor spread like wildfires. But, what is more interesting is that the rumors are more present among the PAS community. Just about every PAS member was “delivered” this rumor. And the natural target is Teresa Kok.

Now many would assume that all this is done out of desperation and a need to wave sensitive feelings among the Malays. But, in truth, there are more to that.

The entire Ahmad Ismail-Azan Issue-Teresa Kok debacle had one short term objective in mind: to get PAS to join Barisan Nasional and resurrect the PAS-UMNO axis. The created religious tension is hoped to convince most PAS members to support the PAS-UMNO proposition from certain quarters in PAS. It was meant to help “push” the Fraksi UMNO initiative. And it almost worked too.

And Teresa Kok was made the scapegoat or rather unwilling tool to ensure the sucsess of their evil scheme. And what I’ve written here is not a theory. It came direct from a very reliable source.

In short, it was a push-nudge for the Fraksi UMNO within PAS to gain traction among the PAS members and push their PAS-UMNO axis proposal and gain massive acceptance among the members.

We must never forget that whatever schemes that UMNO deploys, there must always be a “tangible” gain in the short run. And getting PAS to join BN is a CLEAR TANGIBLE GAIN for BN and Pak Lah.

The Teresa Kok issue is also related to my earlier article which I quote below.

BN’s Selection of Arrested Bloggers is Weird
Thus far we have three known bloggers that has been thrown into the slammer ( ever since the PAS-UMNO story broke out, that is):

    Penarik Beca
    Raja Petra Raja Kamaruddin
    Kickdefella
From the looks of things, there is a pattern emerging. Ever notice that the two blogger: Penarik Beca and Kickdefella are those link or at least expresses their open support to Husam Musa. Furthermore, these two bloggers have done their fair share of exposing the inner going-ons of certain factions in PAS (aka known as Fraksi UMNO – F.U.) that has been talking to UMNO behind everybody’s back.

The arrest of Penarik Beca is the most interesting one. It happened just after the time when the entire secret meeting was exposed to the public. In fact, it is Penarik Beca who actually made the first expose. He even exposed the entourage of PAS leaders to meet leaders of international Islamic movements to discuss possibility of a PAS-UMNO axis. Of course, the “entourage” came empty handed when their proposal was flatly rejected.

Soon after, Penarik Beca was arrested under the charge of Sedition for publishing a picture deemed disrespectful to the Malaysian Police. When in truth, he published an article directly from RPK’s website down to the last z. He probably didn’t notice the dog picture on the Police emblem. If any, it is RPK that should be arrested for the logo, not Penarik Beca.

Penarik Beca has the trust among PAS activists and members. He is a senior PAS members and has been active in the party since the early days of “Kepimpinan Ulama”. Naturally, what he writes will carry massive weight among the PAS rank-and-file.

Kickdefella published an article entitled “Kenyataan Nik Abdul Aziz Yang Di ‘Haramkan’”. Many of the readers may not realize this, but for those sensitive to the beat of the heart of PAS, this article is a death blow to the Fraksi UMNO. It means that the Fraksi UMNO will now have to run for cover to protect whatever’s left of their diminishing credibility among the PAS members.

Kickdefella gets readership, among all, from PAS members as well. Being that he is based in Kota Baru and close to PAS leaders, his publishing of the article CONFIRMS the authenticity of the article. Therefore, when the article appears in his blog, very few PAS members will question that Tok Guru Nik Aziz indeed issued the statement.

One must never forget that when the Tok Guru statement “hits the stands”, the fraksi UMNO was left with but one defense, that is to lay doubt about the authenticity of the statement. One can read such attempt at here.

But when Kickdefella publish such statement, the doubt is effectively gone. Kickdefella is more credible in terms of source because his proximity is closer to Tok Guru and Husam Musa. Therefore, his confirmation stands.

As for Raja Petra, we already know his various expose on UMNO leaders. But one must not forget that he is also instrumental in spreading information about the “fraksi UMNO” acts of indecency. His expose actually transferred the information to a myriad of people and not limited to a homogenous group.

Raja Petra’s expose on the Saiful Bukhari’s deception does more than what we know. As far as PAS is concerned, it knocked the wind off the Fraksi UMNO. Many of the senior leaderships and many of the Ulama council members were told of the existance of a “medical report” that clearly proves Anwar’s complicity in acts of sodomy beyond reasonable doubt.

After that, many among the Council felt they had to support the PAS-UMNO axis if anything to protect the image of PAS. But, Raja Petra foiled this plan, and he did it so well. After RPK’s expose, many of the member of the ulama council felt they were taken for a ride. And the Fraksi UMNO began to lose credibility bit by bit. Until today. The Fraksi UMNO final bullet that they are using right now is that Anwar Ibrahim is an American operative.

It’s not so much UMNO attempt to smear Anwar being expose that hurt them. It’s the fact that when the cat was let out of the bag, their effort to bring PAS over the fence was foiled. That’s all that ever was.

I strongly protest Raja Petra’s incarceration under the ISA. If he is really guilty, charge him under the Shariah court. Let him have the right to defend himself. Muslims are not cowards. Islam is not a coward religion. When Islam says someone is wrong, Islam is willing to come out with sound argument to back it up.

Islam does not need to hide behind a cowardly instrument we have come to know as ISA (Ikut Suka Aku). For one, the Prophet pbuh has never taught his followers cowardice. Such act of arresting Raja Petra under ISA is an insult to Islam despite the justification given by the arresting authority being Islam-related.

IMHO, the recent arrests of bloggers have more to do with botching attempts by certain quarters in PAS to stop PAS from bridging over to the other side. It is like a help from above to the weakening Fraksi UMNO in their effort to ferry PAS into a PAS-UMNO axis.

I was told that the head of Fraksi UMNO got an earful from someone representing some UMNO leader on the delay of the PAS-UMNO axis. A dateline was given but in truth the Fraksi UMNO push has effectively being stopped at it’s tracks at this moment. They are reeling in defense and struggling to salvage whatever’s left of their credibility. UMNO has effectively given up on the PAS-UMNO objective.

Remember, if PAS is brought over to BN, it will be the biggest saving grace to Pak Lah’s hold on power. He will be invincible again and will sail through the UMNO elections with relative ease.

That’s what happened to UMNO back in 1969. When PAS joined UMNO after 1969, UMNO’s credibility among the Malays was reinstalled. They recovered all lost ground and in fact, added more. And 3 years after the 1974 elections (which they won with a massive landslide), they kicked PAS out of Barisan Nasional and rode on to rule the Malays on their own. It’s a good strategy which guarantees utmost result.

At the end of the day, bloggers can expose anything about the current UMNO. But, if PAS joins Barisan Nasional, all of the blogger’s effort is laid to rest.

Still, there is no room for laxity and apathy. A possum ain’t dead till u scrape it off the road. They must continued be watched and spied upon and exposed. I will continue to expose their evil schemes as much as I could.

I am taking a big risk fighting the Fraksi UMNO. Look what happened to Penarik Beca, but I feel I have to do it. Otherwise, the wrong side will prevail.

I pray to Allah SWT that I shall be protected. Amin.

  15. Poor guy! Sounds like RPK has been going through massive interrogations behind bars.

From what he has revealed where the interrogation is going, I hope he is not suffering the effect of total break down. The stress amount can be hard on a person, under such circumstances.

RPK has not caused any violent destruction, please let him go. There should be nothing wrong in expressing his views in the political development of this country.

Keep up the spirit. You represent Malaysian symbol of liberty and bless you.

    Today at 01: 20.36 (12 minutes ago)
    ================================
THANKS bclee for sharing the above info:
Im almost speechless! Talk about scheming, dirty, this Umno – must take my hats off. They are good, too good even for themselves. The scapegoats, Ideally it has to be a Chinese but when things gets heated up, own muslim brothers like Raja also can. There are worst kind than extremist and racist. Its called Umnoist!! 51 yrs of bondages? No wonder. I rest my case.

  17. zak hammad has no clue what “islamo-fascist” means. it’s like a whore’s offspring going around calling people son of a bi-arch because it sounds good but not knowing what it means. zak, wanna know what it really means and who qualify as islamo-fascists???

and what is the race relations act? anything concocted or embraced by the riffraff lot sure stink of disreputable suspicion these days. it will merely replace the unpopular isa as the tool to whimsically lock up the innocent in the name of keeping racial peace. this government, along with scums like ahmad ismail and toyo, has come to a point where anything it says and does reeks of the utmost repugnant stench.

  18. YB Lim, This umno idiots have to go. No 2 ways about it. They will never learn and they won’t – period!! How more stupid can 1 gets, beats the he@# out of me. No matter what Law they are going to introduce, Its just changing the question to suit the Answer.

If Race base politic = Stupidity base cause citizen hardship.

Race relation Acts then becomes = Stupidity relation Acts.

Don’t they understand the word RACE is D problem?
These bast@#$! still wants to hang on to these trick of using Race to further their survival. Pls lah Wake up rakyat. Drop the word Race, its their tricks again.

I am sure there are many more suitable words they can substitute with IF their genuine desire is to strengthen ties among the different races. It can be called “Citizenship Acts” “New Rakyat Acts” Anything that spell out the desire Outcome. Im not called upon to name this act but Im sure many PKR ppl can.

Bottom line, Nothing ever will be fair to the Rakyat so long as it comes out from a Corruted and Dirty Minded ppl. Don’t get trick again. NEP have many other subnames too. Right? At the end, its changing Question to suit Answer. Drop It. Kit, we all know better.

  19. I am still trying to understand the thing about using ISA to protect someone. If there is any protecting, it is ISA protecting the person from ISA itself. Or may be it is the unofficial amended ISA. The government should realize it is misusing the ISA and all detainees must be set free immediately. Glad to know that there are still some people who know what is really right and what is really wrong instead of some crazy fellow arresting anyone who does not belong to Barisan Nasional.

  20. No, no, we have got it all wrong.

Home minister keeps saying that the harmony and peace that the Malaysian people enjoy all these years, has been due to the credit of ISA. Wow, the act should a blessing to us all, why should it be an issue now? Bar Council, please rest your case in asking for the ISA to be abolished.

Fellow Malaysians, is ISA the answer to our nation harmony and prosperity?

    You choose.

  21. YB Kit Siang,
The Police Force is too powerful in Malaysia. It’s called Big Government in US.

Our future PM should get rid of the Federal Police Force which we now have, and then establish the 14 State Police Forces (include KL) so that the police force would be placed under the jurisdiction of the state rather than the federal government or Home Minister. Getting rid of the ISA may help but the federal cop/HM is still capable of locking up people for few days. Anyway, as long as the post of Home Minister exists, the opposition parties and the citizens of Malaysia will not have the freedom of speech.

Just a thought from a Penangites who is now living in US.

  22. YB LKS

Yes, keep the pressure on for RPK and Hindraf 5 to be released. Do it in the many ways to gain much publicity and support of all Malaysians.

Please remember that after Teresa’s release, all Malaysians must not forgo this chance to press for the release of RPK and Hindraf 5; lest YB LKS you may be accused of only taking care of Teresa’s release and not others. It is right as expounded by your vision that all are equally in Malaysia and this is the best chance of proving this; irrespective of race and color.

RPK is no ordinary person. He is akin to Martin Luther King and the Mandela of Malaysia. What is so wrong of what he has done that he deserves detention under the ISA. Charge him in an open court if there is any wrong by him. Let him have his chance to defend himself; unlike now languishing in lockup without any form of defence. His freedom and right to defence has been trespassed upon.

  23. Show us the proof that HINDRAF is a terrorist group and try them in open court! OTHERWISE : SET THEM FREE!!!

Where is the proof that RPK is a national threat?
    Othewise , SET HIM FREE!!!

The natonal threats are the those racists who are still roaming free!
The National Threats are those Corrupted Ones who are enjoying at the expense of the rakyat

  24. What was recently revealed about UMNO Supreme Council meeting tells me that this country is being runned like a seconday-school Extra-Curricular activity. The drama is closer to what you see that TV show about cheerleeding squads in a secondary school.

Its a bunch of overgrown adolescent playing grown-up games – making things up and forgetting the fundamentals as they go along. How can you explain things like Rafidah aziz making statements and the only thing the men could do was say she was ‘biadab’. That is as secondary school as it gets…

The idea that one can use the ISA any how without paying a public price for it is so… prodigal… Its like these heir of something great – a tradition, an idea, who cannot appreciate it and waste it away in the worst possible way – to everyone’s detriment mind you.

No why the ISA should be abolished is not just because its draconian but because those who wield it now are just IRRESPONSIBLE and UNQUALIFIED – a dangerous tool in a child’s hand.

  25. The biggest reason to get rid of the ISA is because its in the hand of children – irresponsible, ignorant, arrogant children with guns in their hand. The recent arrests of RPK, Teresa Kok and Sin Chew reporter is clear evidence BUT the recent revelation of UMNO Supreme Council Meeting where Badawi was challenged proved it. They did not discuss issue, they did not ask why and how to move forward, they are fighting over the family jewels. Its simply adolescent with dangerous weapons in their hands…

  26. Fellow Malaysians,
This UTube link depicts ISA and RPK incarceration in a very touching and vivid way: http://dinmerican.wordpress.com/2008/09/20/even-buffaloes-fight-for-freedom-battle-at-kruger/

It is not just RPK’s fate, but also our collective fate that is at stake. We could change the collective fate when we uphold our civil right and stand as one united front. Among many actions that we can take, here is one of them: http://malaysiacivilright.blogspot.com/ — we have make it easy for you to act. It is as easy as 1-2-3 Steps: We analyze our situation and capability, we collect our consensus, and we act en masse. You are urged to participate in this collective action, and give it a try from the above blog site which will likely to trigger its first action at 1PM Monday, and with future possibility to mobilize more collective actions associated with our civil right.

  27. Our present Selangor Menteri Besar Khaled Ibrahim said that they are going to collect revenus of RM180 million from Selangor while the former Meteri Besar Toyol managed to collect only RM17 million.

Just imagine where were all the money gone to.

Luckility the “rakyat” of Selangor has been awaken bt PR and booted UMNO out. Otherwise the Rakyat will be sucked dry by these suckers.

  28. The government/UMNO is trying to hide the historical truth from “rakyat” that Hang Tuah is a Chinese sent by Ming Emperor to protect Malacca sultanate. That is why our school’s history syllabus has excluded the history of Hang Tuah.

The Chinese through Hang Tuah and Admiral Cheng Ho had contributed to the development of Malasia.

How come a 2nd generation “pendatang” from India or Indonesia who had not fought any intruders claims that the Chinese are “pendatang”. What is wrong with “pendatang”?

If UMNO wants to twist even the historical truth, then what else they will not do.

They will try to silence all the truth angels with whatever means so that the can continue to fool the unenlightened “rakyat” in order to stay in power.

    Release RPK the government must!

  29. Great to see you loving Malaysians shaving your heads in protest against ISA. Shaving one’s head also has some benefits. Thus, it is also “killing two birds with one stone”.
Here are a few benefits of shaving one’s head to share with you:-
    1. Easy maintenance: Save money on shampoo. No need to comb
    hair. Wash and go.
    2. Feels cool: A shaved head feels almost alien. It’s so cool.
    3. Attraction: If you love to be the centre of attention, a bald head
will cause everybody to rub your head. See, RPK is so popular.
    4. Don’t worry, your hair is going to grow back.
Do add to the list if you think of any other benefits.
If anyone of you have never shaved your head, why not give it a try.

  30. Let’s give a very little credit to MCA/Gerakan. For they had tune up their voice very little as compared to last time. But, Hope MCA/Gerakan can shout and demand for the abolish of ISA as this is the golden opportunity, even Zaid opposed to it.

Be brave, if you missed the golden opportunity, rakyat will hate you.

    dpon’t miss the boat!!

  31. The alternative is that Anwar’s plan B must succeed!!
Only then is RPK’s freedom assured.
So, Go Anwar Go – millions of Malaysians are looking to you to bring about a new dawn to Malaysia and, now we are depending on you to set RPK free!!

  32. Only 15660 have signed petition to free RPK last I checked at 21:26. What a pathetic figure for guy who risk his freedom for us and a better Malaysia! Are we just good at talking behind our computer I wonder.
