12th Parliament Opens Today

The “political tsunami” 12th Parliament elected on March 8, 2008 convenes today for the swearing-in of the 222 elected Members of Parliament and the election of the Speaker and two Deputy Speakers.

Tomorrow, the Yang di Pertuan Agong will officially declare open the 12th Parliament with a royal address which represents the policy speech of the government.

On Wednesday, question time and debate will begin.

There are great expectations of the new Parliament. Let its curtain rise.

  1. Year after year, we’ve watched how opposition were ridiculed and bullied in the parliament. I am now filled with a sense of redemption. The people slapped BN on March 08 for your behalf.

  2. A plea from a member of the electorate.

Dear members of parliament, all I want is a peaceful and harmonious country. Please always have the love of our country in your hearts no matter what you undertake from this day onward.

Please help to have the riches of our country distributed equally to all segments of society. Spread joy and happiness to one and all, young and old.

Please have a heart for the senior citizens in our society who need help and care. Make their remaining years pleasant and carefree, appreciate the contributions they have made to our country.

Spare a thought for the poor and struggling families that exist in this nation of ours. Most of the time, they are voiceless, lend them your voice. Let their plight be known in parliament and help bring them the necessary assistance for them to create a decent life.

Do not forget the young, help build a healthy environment so that youthful talents can blossom. Help to create an environment that is free of drugs and pornography. Put your talents together to see that quality education is provided to the future leaders of our country.

Allow good sense and decency to be your guides in whatever you do from today. Always be aware and conscious of your prime duty – to help to unite the people and to do your best to discard all words and deeds that can disunite the people.

  3. Kit,

Do not forget to read the mind of the new MPs. Once you know their mindset and thinking, you can start using psychology to conquer their thoughts and win them over in future parliamentary debates and discussions.

  4. LET THE BUTT KICKING START!!!

Should not be too difficult given the intellectual level of most of the BN MPs. Especially when you have specimens such as the “bocor” man made the Deputy head of the BBC. The 12th GE must have decimated the BN ranks so badly they have to drag up their dregs and even use uncouth, uncultured and despicable louts to fill their Parliament positions.

  5. Great start to a new Parliament…looking forward to performances of the new kids and hope they will not let us down…..drown the money suckers BN MPs and show your powers… “May The Force Be With You”

Just read abt another looming tussle for the Mayor post of Ipoh City due June 2. Please wake up and make a decision fast for a consensus candidate to be the new Mayor. Throw out the BN appointed Mayor cuz his loyalty is not with PR. My proposal is that PKR should be given the post as DAP got the DUN Speaker post & PAS got the MB post. IS the issue of which party gets the post so impt?????

Be rational…we look at you 3 parties to be a harmonious Pakatan so whoever candidate be the Mayor should look ninto the PEOPLE’s Benefit and not at any party’s benefit.

  6. Kit, I am sure you have a very long list of issues to raise. New Pakatan MPs are mostly of very good ‘quality’ in education, experience and exposure. In no time, they will fully participate in the arguments. Hopefully they do it as intelligently as you do. Looking forward to visit Parliament. It must be a very lively place this time.

BN people cannot bully you this time around.

My best wishes for all Pakatan MPs.

As usual, we are around incase you need help…

  7. I cant wait for the whole thing to begin. Kinda miss all that classical drama like:

Uncle Lim vs Kayveas (the infamous “macam monyet”)
Uncle Lim vs Nazri (the infamous “Bohong and Bodoh!”)
Uncle Lim vs Zam (“minister of misinformation”)
“Cili Padi” Fong Po Kuan vs Bung (The infamous “Batu Gajah tiap tiap bulan pun bocor”)

    and the list goes on.

Just thinking aloud; who are the men and who are the beasts?

YB Lim KS, check for scratches (or stab marks) before you retire for the night. Any band-aid ready?

  9. Soon the new capital of Malaysia will be at Mukah, Sarawak.
What is the use of giving so many big titles to Sarawakians, whereas they have no power to develop their state? This is like another kind of Alibaba politics

  10. Brother LKS

What happen to the voting process? At the least Dr.Tan should get through. Some MP Pakatan threw their vote to YB Junaidi which is fine. Some BN who quietly intended to support the Pakatan should vote for Dr.Tan.

Never trust the BN MP.Follow the boss ‘flip flop”.Pakatan has 5 years to grill them. Get to the root of it and never ever let any single of them run away with what they have done to this country.

  12. YB,
I am waiting for your first 12th Parliament speech. Hope YB might able to bring up some ‘sensible’ keynotes to the MP’s and Malaysian’s such as the “Sama ada UMNO A…h ataupun PAS A…h , tetapi adalah untuk semua” in Year 2004.

  13. to mysn1st,

Don’t be stupid BN reject PAS, they abolished Jawi the roots of Malay (Parameswara time). Now how the hell they want to share, even the state funds already go to Gerakan (current opposition).

  14. Hi,

May I suggest that Parlimen start the day with : :ANY MATTERS ARISING”.. before and rather tahn jump into the Agenda of the day on Q an A………LIke our meetings held by the rakyat…..

AS for the uproar over more questions… yes, it was understood given the SURPRISE decision by the SPEAKER…who suppose to allow MPs to seek clarifications…etc… OR else decide fairly..one or two more Qs each from the two side…come on only two sides…

That is the problem with the first parlimen session..

    Steven
