Eureka! But no…
According to legend, more than 2,000 years ago, when Archimedes got into his bath and saw it overflow, he suddenly realised he could use water displacement to work out the volume and density of the king’s crown. Archimedes not only shouted “Eureka” – I have found it – he supposedly ran home naked through the streets of Syracuse in his excitement.
I was quite at a loss and almost given up the effort to try to understand why I could not update my blog and the signs of more and more of the WordPress functions breaking down, when I remembered a query by a poster whether I had configured the blog to reject the function embolding words. At the time, I did not really understand the query.
But this gave me a clue and I found that the use of the “bold” function in the WordPress 2.3.1 led to the rejection of the input, whether new blog or commentary. This led to other discoveries – the fatal role of most of the other WordPress functions in killing any update or new input.
This was why I was finally able to put up three blog items today, the latest article by Farish Noor on “The A, B and C of God” and two pieces of my media conference in Kampong Simee, Ipoh Timur this morning to launch “crime, law and order” as among the top general election themes in Perak state.
But I have not been able to use the WordPress functions whether to edit the blog like to “bold” or italicize passages, break up the blog, link to media reports, etc.
You will have to bear with the failure of the various WordPress functions until the WordPress glitches could be sorted out.
ahhh Uncle Kit,
The wonder and pain of technology.
It is a wonder that it work at all.
A pain when it didn’t.
No offense but I am in the IT industry. Software glitches and problems are something that are so common it became a fact of life.
FYI, a lot of time when software don’t perform up to par it is due to one or more of the following causes:
a) incompetent programmers
b) impossible deadlines
c) unreasonable expectations
Anyway, I am pleasantly surprised in your ability to tackle technical issues like this. You are way better than a lot of common folk I met. :)
One of the most ridiculous horror stories I heard from frens in the pc support line; a woman actually wiped the internals of her pc wif a damp cloth and wonder why the pc won’t work afterwards. Well, the water from the cloth short-circuited the wiring. She’s lucky the pc din caught fire. :)
Good thing you didn’t run naked through KL or the press would have had a field and the CSL tapes would soon become history.
sorry typo:
a field day
Uncle Kit,
Gratz you have finally able to sort out what is the problem..but please dont running on the street shouting Eureka..haha..anyway wish you and the party luck for the coming GE.
Uncle Kit, why not you install Google Adsense (FOC) in your blog to gain some income that may contribute to your political fund??
Secondly, i suggest you install Google Translate i.e. http://72.14.203.104/translate_t so that more languages can be translated and read by readers.
No wonder no updates for quite some time. I thought this is a critical period and your postings should be more frequent. Uncle kit, you are so good at tackling these blogging issues, better than most of my friends, seriously! Even my dad doesn’t go online at all and he’s younger than you~ Just curious that how much time you invested in learning all these bloggin stufff huh?
Probably it is just the web host’s way of controlling information. Like there is Yahoo Malaysia and Google Malaysia and it will not be surprising if there is some Malaysian controlling whoever who is using those search engines.
megaman and all,
What are you all talking about? I am blurr.r.rr.
xpainxgain,
I just checked out the google translate. But it uses direct translation which doesn’t really make sense for reading. Anyways, uncle kit has already got a mandarin blog maintain by lau weng san. I think that could serve the purpose.
To oknyua,

Uncle Lim,
Allow me to digress a bit…. let talk about our Taxi Service
Pratically no taxi in KLCC and Pavillion/Bkt Bintang uses meter anymore, I have the unfortunate misplacing my car key and have to use one of this taxi services….
Destination: From Pavillion to Ampang
The Charge: RM25, no less,
Time travelled: 15 minutes
I was in SG just before the new year;
Took taxi from Clarks Quay to CCC and turn back to Orchard
Charge: SGD30 = RM70
Time travelled: 35 minutes
Now lets compare…. minute by minute charge
Taxi in KL = RM1.67/minute
Taxi in SG =RM2.0/minute
Difference = 15% cheaper in KL
Lets look at petrol prices
in KL per litre: RM1.70
in SG per litre: RM5
My point is… we consumers are paying very high and comparable to Singapore for taxi services… yet… our Taxi Drivers will often not stop for us when hailed! or THEY FLATLY REFUSE TO TAKE
…oops… accidentally hit enter
My other point is….
Where is our Transport Minister?
how come we are like this?
Someone has to do something for our Taxi Drivers….
Thanks
That’s true Uncle Kit,
Typically upon admission to your blog, my ‘handle’ which is my true name appears simultaneously, but of late I’ll have to reinstate my ‘handle’ by the manual typing including my password.
And my last comment upon hitting the “SUBMIT” button reads”your comment is awaiting moderation”.
And Eureka, not because of your discovery to the enigmatic WordPress problems but of your first crack of joke by analogy of Archimedes. Now, no more no nonsence character. A bit of a joke please ;) What have I miss?
Transportation is the life-line of a trading nation which we proudly emplaced ourselves as an important player in the world market. That could be history very soon! The moment, fuel price is not subsidized, I believe our logistics together with the ever increasing toll rates will make the cost of land transportation amongst the highest in Asean. Having read the article in the Strait Times on Sunday, it is obvious that our car industry will be only Protons and maybe the plagiarized NAZA cars which we happily ‘bluffed’ the folks in the villages as one of our inventions.
The taxi service is not functioning and we want to attract tourists. The policy on commercial transportation, especially on container hualage had been a failure over 30 years before it is ‘liberated’; but do note this too is not functioning well and the cost of transport keeps going up. Like the taxi service, it should be totally liberalized and let the market [ ie, the operators/owners] to decide the most effective mode of operation; meaning an option to the drivers to decide if they too want to be driver-owners. While we do not want to deprive those currently operating to stop; give an option, let see which mode can do better.
Taxi-drivers are behaving as they do, because of the mode of operation they are forced to accept. Let them buy the cars and pay the instalments and see if they are still choosy!!
It is a shame that after over 30 years of leading the Transport Ministry, MCA had totally failed to improve this half-past-six Ministry. The reason? Oh, the issuing of licenses is with someone else. If that reason is good enough to be given to the public then don’t accept the post, wash your hand! No, not just, PKFZ is there!!
To side track a bit: There are hundreds of Be End state asemblymen like Mad Aris Mad Yusof in Malaysia. What this MadX2 did was just the tip of the iceberg!
To win big in the coming GE, opposition parties must dig out as much scandals and scams as possible throughout all Malaysia before the GE and show them to all Malaysians.
Opositions must not focus on big cities only; everyday there are many scandals happening in all Malaysian states and even in small towns.
I have big doubt this con assemblyman with 2 Mads to his name can survive the coming GE!
