Samy Vellu’s triple shame in Chennai – apologies from mulitiple personalities warranted

I learn from a posting on my blog that the Malaysian Nanban today reported on its front page that the MIC President and sole Malaysian Indian Cabinet Minister for over 28 years, Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu suffered grave humiliation in Chennai when the Tamil Nadu chief Minister S. Karunanidhi refused to meet him, despite Samy Vellu waiting for an appointment for three days.

Samy Vellu had said when he arrived in Chennai on Dec. 30 that he would meet Indian leaders including Karunanidhi and the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his visit to India to attend the three-day People of Indian Origin Conference in New Delhi starting on January 7.

He said he would explain “the real situation concerning the Indian community in Malaysia” to the Indian leaders in view of the “negative publicity” from the Nov. 25 Hindraf demonstration which drew support from 30,000 Indians from all over the country.

Samy Vellu was made to cool his heels in Chennai, waiting for three days and repeatedly phoning up for an appointment with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister but to no avail.

Nanban reported the displeasure of Samy Vellu at being given the cold shoulder, complaining at the ingratitude of Karunanidhi when the MIC President had treated the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister like royalty when Karunanidhi had previously visited Malaysia.

Samy Vellu has brought shame not only to himself, but to MIC, the Malaysian Indians and the Malaysian nation. For this he owes the Malaysian Indian community and all Malaysians a fulsome public apology.

This is the Samy Vellu’s first shame in Chennai.

He suffered a second shame in Chennai.

I have just received a SMS from DAP MP for Bukit Mertajam, Chong Eng informing me that Makkal Osai today quoted Samy Vellu as saying that the government did not have any evidence to prove that Hindraf had connection with Tamil Tigers or terrorists when he was asked by reporters in Chennai.

If the government has no evidence that Hindraf had terrorist links with the Tamil Tigers, how can the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan, the Attorney-General Tan Sri Gani Patail and the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi make public allegations about Hindraf’s terrorist links and how could the five Hindraf leaders and activists, P. Uthayakumar, V. Ganabatirau, M. Manoharan, R. Kenghadharan and T. Vasantha Kumar be detained under the infamous Internal Security Act, where a person could be detained indefinitely without trial although one is innocent?

Furthermore, how could Samy Vellu, who claims to represent the interests of the Indians in Malaysia, sit idly by and allow such gross injustice to be perpetrated on the five Hindraf leaders and activists allegedly for terrorist links – for which Samy Vellu now admits is without basis?

Samy Vellu owes the Hindraf Five, the Malaysian Indian community and all Malaysians a second public apology. Even IGP Musa, AG Gani and Prime Minister Abdullah should publicly apologise for their baseless allegations of terrorist links which they had hurled against Hindraf. Uthayakumar, Ganabatirau, Manoharan, Kenghadharan and Vasantha Kumar should be released immediately and unconditionally from ISA detention at Kamunting Detention Centre.

Now, to Samy Vellu’s third shame. This is from the latest SMS from Chong Eng. Appearing on AChennai television, a reporter asked Samy Vellu why he couldn’t stop the Minister from condemning Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Samy Vellu answered that there were two or three Opposition MPs asking the Indian government to interfere in Malaysia’s Indian problems, and it was because of that the Minister responded.

This was a blatant lie by Samy Vellu.

The AChennai interview was referring to the very rude retort by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz to wire reports that Karunanidhi had written to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him to take immediate and appropriate action to end the “sufferings and bad treatment” of Tamils in Malaysia.

Nazri warned Karunanidi to “lay off”, rebuking the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for interfering when what happened in Malaysia had “nothing to do with Tamil Nadu”.

Nazri also made the gratuitous remark that Karunanidhi should “look at his own backyard” before interfering in Malaysian affairs and that Karunanidhi’s “own state is out of control”.

This is also where Nazri unrepentantly reiterated that he would not apologise for calling the 30,000 Indians who had supported the Hindraf rally in Kuala Lumpur on Nov. 25 as “penyangak” (crooks). There was not a single bleat of protest from MIC leaders, whether Minister, Deputy Minister, Parliamentary Secretary or MP at such unwarranted abuse and insult.

Samy Vellu owes Parliament and the nation a full public apology for telling a lie just to defend the indefensible by Nazri, as no DAP MP (I presume Samy Vellu was referring to e DAP MPs) had called for the intervention of the Indian Government.

If DAP MPs had ever made such a call, Parliament, the nation and whole wide world would not be allowed to forget it, for we would have been have been the target of propaganda attacks on radio and television until the next general election is over – condemning DAP MPs as disloyal, anti-national and even as traitors!

Samy Vellu is bringing shame and dishonour to Malaysia with the pack of lies and half-truths he is trotting out to the media in India.

I call on Samy Vellu to speak the truth and to openly admit that the Indians in Malaysia had suffered long-standing political, economic educational, social, cultural and religious polarization and that a New Deal is urgently needed to correct such historic injustices for the good of the Malaysian Indians as well as the whole Malaysian nation.

  1. What is there for Samy to explain in India when locally he cannot explain the God Sent Money to MIC in the Telecoms shares allocation. He brags a lot of his “hollow achievements & deeds” he has done for the Indian community. Short is his memory and long are the sufferings of the ordinary Indians lot in Malaysia. Samy has the audacity to ask “What Money?” he has siphoned off; conveniently ignored the many questions the Maika fiasco had raised that had shamed him and the Hanky-Panky in Telekom Shares that went to the three companies representing the “interests” of the Indian community. What was Samy’s role in this debacle? Why did he prevent this wealth from reaching Maika? For the Personal Greed & Gain of his relatives?

  2. Election will be held in Malaysia soon. What is Samy doing in India.Shouldnt he be here planning for the election.I am confused. Please can someone explain the rationale behind samy’s trip to India at this point in time. When he is needed here most.

  3. ///Nanban reported the displeasure of Samy Vellu at being given the cold shoulder, complaining at the ingratitude of Karunanidhi when the MIC President had treated the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister like royalty when Karunanidhi had previously visited Malaysia.///

Samy Vellu thought that he would be able to play back-scratching with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. The CM considers his hands stink, and that Samy is a disgrace to Tamil.

  4. Dear Malaysians,

Uncle Lim wrote, “This is also where Nazri unrepentantly reiterated that he would not apologise for calling the 30,000 Indians who had supported the Hindraf rally in Kuala Lumpur on Nov. 25 as “penyangak” (crooks). The reason why none of the Indian representatives responded to Nazri was because these leaders are perhaps crooks themselves. By keeping quiet they have failed to protect Indians rights in Malaysia. How long more are the Indians going to be unrepresented? Well, the earliest crooks of all, Sambanthan was the MIC president when the government decided to implement the NEP. If they had protested then, perhaps the leaders would have protested now. Indians never had a good leader. It’s about time Indians get a leader who is daring enough to protest and threaten to pull out from the coalition formed government. Why are the Indias worried to do this? Are they worried things might get worse? Wake up, things are already worse.
Please do NOT participate in the rally organized by MIC; shame him by not attending the rally, just like how the Indian Chief Minister shamed him by not meeting him. Boycott the Thaipusam if needed, and don’t worry that Lord Murugan will be angry for not going to Thaipusam, in fact Lord Murugan will be proud because you were brave enough to protest for your rights.

Let’s protest non violently, like not attending the rally, not going to the Thaipusam and voting them out of their constituency.
This is the birth of non-violent movement.

May God bless Malaysia and may God help to make the Malay’s who are ignorant to wake up and rise to their potential as true Muslims, who are tolerant to people of all faith.

  5. sammy doesnt realise that Karunanidhi himself was humiliated by Nazri…..this guy is leader of the Tamils…a race that once gave life to a Malaysia with no economy….in the process dying of malnutrition and malaria………….you surely cannot expect the TN leader to just sit by and watch his once brethren getting bashed up…..he wil loose public support…..But what Karunanidhi coudnt watch…. Sammy and his goons just lapped it in with their balls all shrunk up……I dont think Karunanidhi or for that matter anyone else would want to associate themselves with Sammy…..the coward with no balls…..

  6. He`s making a fool of himself not only in Chennai, but in the capital New Delhi too. From NDTV:

NDTV: Do you have any evidence to back your government’s charge that the Hindraf has links with terrorists?

D S Vellu: Hindraf said they would fight like the Tigers, the way the Tigers are fighting in Sri Lanka. It was by Vedamurthy. After he talked like that, we did an investigation and it was felt that he may have gone there for training.

NDTV: Do you have evidence of this?

D S Vellu: No. It is our suspicion.

  7. `Nanban reported the displeasure of Samy Vellu at being given the cold shoulder, complaining at the ingratitude of Karunanidhi..`

Well, at least Karunanidhi does not vote in any M`sian constituency, so being ungrateful would not bother him much. But semi has much to be grateful to Karunanidhi from what I hear.

  8. Samy Vellu talk lies after a lies…
he need to tell 2 lies to cover his 1st lies…

so now he already told 3 lies, and he’s looking for 6 big lies to cover it… no end of the story….

  9. I pity this chap call samy vellu who had been instructed by our PM to travel to India to bluff his big brothers about Hindraf affairs.Dei,Samy we know you are behind Indians but because of your rice bowl and greed, you have to pretend to be loyal to your PM and cover him.I presume you are not welcome in India and India will be your last choice for your retirement.

  10. Poor Semi-Value! He worked like a fire fighter, not gaining any ground at all! UMNO always set a fire (marginalising the non-Malays including Indians), he works to put it off (try to resolve by begging). He should have led the MIC out of BN; this would surely bring drastic change for the better of Malaysian Indian!

  11. “Nanban reported the displeasure of Samy Vellu at being given the cold shoulder, complaining at the ingratitude of Karunanidhi when the MIC President had treated the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister like royalty when Karunanidhi had previously visited Malaysia.”

Samy, Adei, do you think that the CM of Tamil Naidu is so cheap and ‘pariah’? Just because you treated him well, he should sell his principle? Not like Malaysian Ministers lawhereby [deleted]
Let us hope PM of India will shun Samy like a leper!!!

  12. It is because of Mr. Karunanidhi, Malaysia (Samy) was able to vie for contracts in India. It is not going to be smooth sailing from now on. The Finance Minister is also a Tamil.

The Malaysian Government should not have linked Hindraf with Tamil Tigers without any proof. This is a sensitive issue in Tamil Nadu.

Need to wait and see how this translates into negative support for MIC.

  13. For some time now, unidentified groups have been circulating, among others, notices on the veteran politician’s ’16th-day funeral prayers’.

Rumours are also rife that such prayers were actually carried out in several locations but this could not be confirmed.

According to sources, there are numerous versions of the notice, which are also being forwarded via the internet.

These notices have also been posted at various places, with one calling the MIC president as the Indian community’s ‘No 1 Killer’.

The notice obtained by Malaysiakini is typical of the ’16th-day funeral prayers’ invitation advertised in newspapers.

  14. Why is Samy Vellu in India, wooing Indian voters??

Doesn’t he know that Indian nationals are not citizens of Malaysia and are not eligible to vote?? Is he planning to issue Malaysian ICs to them?

  15. sami velu only knows to talk craps despite he dont have any I.Q in him…i hope everyone will vote him out in the coming election..

Reporter : I heard that Malaysia is planning to launch a rocket to the sun, how is it posible?

Sami : Itu program dalam perancangan (The programme is still in progress)

Sami : We’ll be going at night..

  16. Everybody knows that the HINDRAF 5 are “prisoners of conscience”. Having said that, they should be officially declared that internationally. Afterall, no evidence has ever been furnished to show that they are terrorists, and by Samy’s own testimony, the government has no evidence. If Samy had any moral fibre left in him, he’d insist that the 5 be released from ISA, and be charged in court.

Having said that, everyone also knows that Samy Vellu is so thick skinned that he will never feel any shame. It is for this reason that he should be resoundingly defeated at the polls and be sent packing.

  17. Frankly, I won’t characterize Samy Vellu’s behaviour as shameful because of the lies and half-truth. The real shame is that a 30-year veteran behaviour is just ridiculous and material for worst jokes. His presumption, his arrogance. Its like one of those bad guy like a evil money lender of old Bollywood movie. Frankly, I am surprise no media in India has made him the butt of jokes. If they had and equivalent of Saturday Night Live and Tonight Show, he would be made a laughing stock – and its also laughing at us for having him around.

Samy Vellu is embarassing his entire race and Malaysian in general. That is the real crime…

  18. I am never a big fan of Samy Vellu or any politicians in Malaysian irregardless of which side of fence they are sitting (save for Tun Mahatir and Lee Lam Thye). Anyway, I would like to point out that the Indian press was making a mockery out of Malaysia, buying into the allegations made by HINDRAF. ‘Ethnic cleasing’???? Bull shit!!!! As a Malaysian, I am proud to be one. But I don’t think anyone of you here are when you guys would rub your hands in glee when we are being ridiculed by other nations. In fact, you people are in full support of this!!! I would like to make a point here, even when we are not supporting the ruling government, please do love your country….. HINDRAF is a clear example of lack of love for the country when the main aim is the ruling government. I wonder who is waving the invisible wand here…LKS, any idea??
