Land Premiums for renewal of leases in Sarawak

by Sara Wak

The state BN leaders have already lost RM billions in First Silicon and Borneo Paper & Pulp projects, on the other hand they are trying to penalise the people for the mistakes that they made by imposing high land premiums for renewal of their lands.

How much has the State lost in the First Silicon and Borneo Paper & Pulp projects compared to the land premiums to be imposed by Taib and his government for land lease renewal?

Will the land premiums to be collected be sufficient to cover the RM billions which Taib and his government have lost in First Silicon and Borneo Paper & Pulp?

Who are to be held accountable for the losses? CM? The whole state Government?

Who were those responsible for making the decisions to invest in these projects?

Who were the ones who drafted the agreements not to cover Sarawak but to make the Government of Sarawak responsible for the loans taken out and having to pay the banks when the partners do not pay ?

The people of Sarawak have a right to know.

Where is the accountability? We demand an answer.

Let’s be transparent. We do not want to be continued to be cheated.

The RM billions lost belong to us just like shareholders in a company. The money does not belong to Taib and his cabinet.

If the cabinet made the decisions for the investments, they should resign honourably like directors in a company where they are entrusted by the shareholders to manage the company.

If Taib and his ministers have mismanaged Sarawak, they should resign and do not need to wait till the next election and continue to cheat the people.

We want our money back, the money belong to us and not Taib and his ministers alone.

Let’s have a profit and loss accounts for the years that Taib has been in power and see how well he has managed the financial resources of Sarawak. If he fails to manage properly, he must not be allowed to be the chief executive of Sarawak.

We know that the people cannot ask him to reveal how the resources of Sarawak have been managed, but I am sure the YBs from DAP and PKRs can demand it to be revealed on behalf of the people of Sarawak.

Taib and his ministers cannot refused not to disclose the figures.

Let’s see them NOW. If the local media do not dare to publish what the people are asking, then let’s ask the foreign press to publish them worldwide.

We are only asking for information which we are entitled to know and not accusing anyone at the moment. WE want the TRUTH.

  1. Recently a Japanese cabinet minister commited suicide after he was alleged to have misappropriate a rather small sum of money!

We do not expect Tahi to commit suicide, we expect Tahi to quit immediately.

The ways he is doing things only bring shame to Islam and to Malaysia as a whole.

  2. if i am not mistaken, the silicon project was one of the project to propel Malaysia into industrialisation (under MM), the plant was to produce chips, yes it can produce chips but technology change very fast. Its another project that was done without proper economic sense/perspective. Best if it the project can be disposed to industry leaders like Intel or Samsung etc who can provide the necessary technology and market penetration. Otherwise more money will be pumped to wasteful project.

  3. First Silicon, Crystal Clear Technology and many other so called Government linked high-tech investments were pet projects of TDM.

    So far none has succeeded!

Almost all top management of such mega projects were headed by the Bumis.

Of course there were no accountability issues raised at all when things failed.

  4. It would appear we could “compile” a list of failed projects by the government! They will have to account for the losses. We cannot tolerate “incompetence” and “corruption”. It’s the people’s hard earned money. We have the right to hold them accountable and be punished for their failures.

  5. Seems like the “bapak” of “Modern Malaysia” is little more than the “father of all” stupidity and a legacy of waste and corruption.

Malaysians do deserve a change, and pray to all ye God/s that changes will come soon.

  6. If it is a profitable project it will go into some private hand and if it is money losing it will end up with the state (Rayak). Look at the almost empty office building next to JB custom, it belong to the Sarawak state government (Rayak) but imagine if it is fully occupied whoes hand do you think it will goes to?

  7. Nobody is held responsible and accountable?

The country and her people are beginning to suffer the consequences of decades of bad leadership and administration…..this is only the tip of the iceberg.

  8. It is not the ordinary people fault………it is decades of total control over information and misformation that kept the people in the dark.

The people should be empowered to protect the interest of the country…..but the government would not want that.

  9. The mentality for business is not there..

I dont know why they build a wafer plant in Sarawak and away from the buyers of wafer, but with good intend probably to industrialized the state of sarawak.

This area of business should not fail due to the many application of wafer, unless mismanagement, CBT OR technology inferiority to other wafer fab manufacturers OR the piss of their buyers!

No one is fooled in voting into BN, we dont have alternate choice, if you have a vote to cast…heard this saying ” cant beat the best, join them” (something like that)

We need an alternative government setup, at least the hope of such stemming from DAP… Bring forth a component parties to a main party.. BE A CORPORATE GOVERNMENT! not a Sundry shop.

  10. It’s our land … we can do what we think is right !!!
It’s our monies that we are asking for … the value is up to us to decide … cannot pay .. we will take over ..
Doesn’t all these sounds like our beautiful statements from …

  11. Let us make it clear. When the government fails, the opposition carries some responsibility as well. This is the way I look at a democratic system. We should see what have the oppsoition in Sarawak done to stop the abuses and improve the system. The oppsoition DAP has been elected once in a while since the 80’s (right?)

  12. The Rakyat vote them in year in, year out, no reason for them to suspect the rakyat have stopped being gullible…This is evidenced by George recently coming out promising a road shop to get feedback and explain the land premiums to the people.Don’t think for a second that we know not about Collective Cabinet decisions, the SUPP were part and is still part of the decision, therefore any pretense at getting feedback and fighting for the rakyat is long past. Their continued presence suggestive of no other capable leaders is an insult. GO PLAY GOLF

  13. Dear Sara,
We are asked the question of ” what is accountability “. ” How to be accountable ? ”
Miss Wak, why ask such questions when the people who ask the same questions do not know the meaning of accountability and do not show actions of accountability. It is just so hypocritical that go against all religions and they can just slap their own faces for it. What you see is many of these projects, mega or micro, are carried out using suspicious money and in the end these projects bear the name of that someone or a name connected to that someone, meaning that in actual fact the projects do not belong to the people nor the government. Do you know that some filty rich dudes come from Sarawak and every now and then can fly off to places only rich people can go to ? The Great white sharks would not eat them because they got plenty of money to buy food to feed them. We think we are blessed. Indeed in a materialistic way, we are very blessed. All these blessings stop us from asking hard questions. Are we going to be spoiled by all these blessings ? Can we manage our land when the blessings stop coming ? Everyone is accountable since you asked. The ordinary people is accountable too because they allow events to happen that lead to such actions to be taken.

  14. My uncle told me that we’re the only state or country that need to renew our land in this world, what we buy, no matter lands or premises, is not own by us but lease from state gov, what kind of logic is this? Actually, this scare the foreigner to invest in our country too.

I do think this is funny, what you think?

  15. Anak_Permyjaya,

    Your uncle is right.

It is scary to think of the future. Just imagine that, you have to pay 48% of the current market value of the land supposing you want to renew your land lease, by cash. If you can’t afford, your house will be gone, even if you have finished paying all your housing loans. Your house will be taken over by the government!!!

For instance, if the current value of your land is, say RM700,000 at that material moment, just multiply RM700,000 by 48%. That is how much you are going to pay, if you can’t pay, your house will be gone forever. Worst still, you’ll not be able to sell it before your land lease expires!!!!!

  16. I think until nowdays , goverment didnt make afford to resolve ;land issue that own by people state of sarawak. Nobodys given us a good & clear solution regrading land premises matter at all. 17. im sick and tired about the corruption games in sarawak, i ever wonder why most people in sarawk cannot see these things, are they blind by the taib mahmud propaganda,i urged people from penisular malaysia to help us…
